Bob Holt spokesman for STFC Directors speaking to the press from the car park of The Swan in Newbury reports "There are now so many potential investors wanting to thrust millions and millions of pounds into Swindon town .... we "the Board" are unable to decide who we should allow to invest in this wonderful opportunity.....therefore after an extraordinary meeting held in the public bar tonight...we decided that we don't need them after all....and I will simply shake my stick and pray".
Only Willie Carson opposed the motion, however he had fallen off his stool at the time.....
Holt continued...who needs a football team and loyal supporters we can simply shake sticks on a Saturday afternoon...
The only pub I've ever used in Newbury, was called the Jack O'Newbury this was so many years ago that there wasn't even an M4....which was why you'd stop in Newbury for a beer on the way back from Londinium on the A4.
Apparently Jack was some sort of Tudor, Robin Hood.....take from the rich to give to the poor....a Newbury tradition that didn't last into the 21st Century.
Did you know Bob Holt's first name is Robin?
