You can't drop Lampard whose been our best player for ages.

Carrick & Lampard in the centre with Stevie pushed forward.
who would you drop if you did that though..(genuine question)

play one up front with stevie just in behind
do you mean in the world cup or do you mean one up front all the time

How many teams in the premiership use three centre backs?

I think it's a lot better to have two centre backs and someone like Carrick as a holding midfielder.

There's no way Lampard should be dropped. Gerrard could be good in that role for some games and definitely if neither Owen or Rooney are fit.

none ben your right..but our strongest positions are in centre defence and midfeild..our problems occur when we try to make things work by putting luke young or carragher as a right back,if cole was not fit we would have a poor wayne bridge.. just think of the centre halves we have now and coming through  terry, ferdinand, carragher, woodgate (if fit).king, dawson, ferdinand even curtis davies and look how yound that lot are..we have allways struggle defensivly at tournaments and with this lot of players coming through this should not be the case anymore..oh and ben how can you compare international football to the premiership

I just mean our centre-backs (and alos most of our other players) aren't used to playing in a 3-5-2 although I'm sure they could adapt. I think the reason 3-5-2 isn't used too much now is because more and more teams are playing with one up front.

Can't be arsed with defence...
Without Rooney:

           Lampard   Carrick
Beckham                         Cole

                       Gerrard

                  Crouch/Owen

Seems to be the genearal agreement then.

In an effort to turn this tread into a beckham debate, I'd go..
With Rooney:

            Lampard        Carrick
Gerrard                                Cole

                          Rooney
                  Crouch/Owen

Sorry about the slightly off layout, couldn't be arsed to line up all the spaces.
