Ben, fair enough, but don;t you DARE try and credit the winner to Crouch... he nearly cost Owen a simple header with his bambi-on-ice attempt

Agreed  Smiley
disagree. owen wouldn't have scored otherwise.

Further to the Crouchmeister skillfully guiding Owen to make the winning header,  I debated down the pub the as to whether there is anything in the laws of the game, aside from ungentlemanly conduct, to prevent someone lifting another player line out style....or perhaps a player sitting on another's shoulders in a defensive wall.

I argued since its never been done to my knowledge there must be some law which is contravened, and assumed it to be deemed ungentlemanly conduct.

 Anybody know?

I thought he did OK, but from where I was sitting it looked that in his desperation to score he nearly flattened Owen as he went for the winner.

For once yes I know  Beers   .......sort of  :?
It was added as an amendment to the section of rules including using your arms to unfairly gain height in an aerial challenge.
Lifting by another player is covered by the same section of rules (as 9.3.2.1.B.ii.c or something)

Strangely it is not illegal to be lifted by a player from the opposition - unless they dump you on the floor (dangerous play)

It'd probably come under match fixing though....

Come on Reginald don't tell me your a convert to the cult that is this lanky fruit?

I remember you describing him as comedy not so long ago!

If Sven is so desperate for a big target man he might want to start with one that can actually score!

you could also award a free kick for unsporting behaviour, if, in the opinion of the referee, it is warranted (i.e. a team mate obviously picks a team-mate up to reach a header).

I think Reg has been a Crouchy supporter for some time judging by this topic,

I think Crouchy is a good idea,  he would give the England squad something different.

It looks like my idea that Crouchy can be our secret weapon is becoming reality. :advercool:

Peter Crouch is something different and will be the new supersub for England  Smiley

...then again anything's better than bringing on Owen Hargreaves.

You need to go back a bit further.

Although it's fair to say at the time I don’t think there were many who saw poor Crouch as anything more than an unfortunate Premiership buffoon.

Still, not looking good on the old goal tally for the season is it?

If that’s the standard  of England strikers it won’t be long before Andy ‘the goal’ Cole is being lined up for a dramatic late comeback to the National side.

Coincidently Harry Redknapp was singing the praises of antediluvian Teddy Sheringham at the weekend and suggested he was th ideal man to partner either Wayne or Owen.
