Lets be honest the premiership has been dull since about May 1994. Personally I think it has improved over the last couple of seasons purely because Arsenal and Man United are no longer winning anything which is clearly the best thing that has ever happened to the premiership as it was fucking intolerable when they were.

The Ashes has been very good entertainment to be fair but football is entertaining in a different way, the tension is normally all in short periods which makes it even more exciting. 5 minutes to go in a crucial game with just one goal in it, happens all the time in football but cricket only a few games are that close.

Certainly captured the imagination of the hacks. Even staunch footy tabloids like the Star and the Sun have had Ashes coverage on the back 3, 4, 5 pages.

You can tell Woolly (Stars top sport man) doesnt really want to cover the football, he wants to be at the Ashes.

And quite rightly so, we are after all on the verge of basically being crowned the best test side in the world.

It'll be like the Rugby World Cup when we won it. Everyone jumps on the bandwagon for a couple of months but many will jump off it just as quickly. How many of the new 'followers' will care when we are travelling India and Pakistan in the winter? However, the thing cricket has going for it over the brief riugby phenomona is that it's a summer sport and a great day out rather than standing in the freezing cold.

But come the winter its back to sky sports, I think that the ashes being on C4 and being accessible to everyone has had something to do with the huge interest.

I went to Weston Super Mud sunday and everyone on the beach was playing cricket, I was loitering near people hoping to get a catch!

Cricket is also easier to play here. There are sooooo many teams around you can't fail to find one if you want to play.

I will not be following the winter tour much because I don't have Sky and am hardly able to get there myself!!!

I agree that cricket on C4 has played a big part in gaining interest in the sport, and it will be a shame for it to go to Sky.
