I think that was a definite whoosh...

Followed by a loud bang and lots of flames...

All a matter of taste I know, but I think the Germans have got this one wrapped up.

I went to a St Pauli game in 1998 or 1999.  I was in Hamburg for the weekend with a girlfriend who was working out there.  Best 0-0 I think I've ever see.  Cracking atmosphere.

The only thing that confuses me now is that I remember the opponents as being VFL Bochum...but I tried just now to find a record of the game online and Bochum were playing in the Bundesliga that season.  (This was definitely a 2. Bundesliga game.)

I've done Hamburg too. Build-up to the game with all the makeshift bars were great. Game was mediocre but the general experience made up for it.

Going to another Bundesliga game in a couple of weeks... Don't know which one yet as it's a surprise from the missus. My guess is Hannover, either way I can't wait.

I watched Cologne vs a team Ruud Van Nistelrooy had just signed for, Hamburg I think. Atmosphere was decent, though not spectacular. We seemed to be sat in a bit where both sets of supporters were mixed and there was no hint of trouble. The police there are not to be fucked with, they were all kitted out in full riot gear with massive Alsatians. German sausage is crap, full of processed shit and low quality arsehole meat. Tastes ok if you don't think about it much. British bangers are much, much better.

British sausages are good, but don't buy anything labelled "banger"

By calling them bangers, they are merely ensuring that they are not covered by the regulations on meat content, and will be full of all the shit bits that can't be used in sausages
