Ordered an item off E-Bay yesterday, got a receipt from PayPal. Everything OK

Checked bank account and noticed another PayPal payment of £139.83 very same day. Nothing we had ordered and got no receipt for anything from Paypal.

Nothing on our transactions list on PayPal.

The item does appear at the PayPal end. They are investigating.

Have I been scammed?

I had a similar thing when the actual balance on my account and the available balance where different by exactly twice the Paypal amount. However only one came out. So have both txns cleared ?

I also had my Paypal account hacked for £500 and Paypal sorted it.

You should be pretty safe with Paypal, they will sort it.. it might take a few days/weeks though.

They reckon 10-14 days to sort it.

Have cancelled my Visa card just in case.

Bank have also said if we have any problems with PayPal, Visa will probably sort it - so not really worried about losing the money, just as to whether PayPal is as secure as they pretend it to be

They are secure but nothing is fullproof.  I used them as a payment provder for a webstore I used to run and we got hit a few times, but everytime Paypal sorted it out, it just took time.

I wouldn't worry about using them to be honest.

We got done a few years ago, started off with Paypal but they ended up stripping our online bank accounts!!  Pretty sure it was the same people too as somebody was ordering things and paying for them with my Paypal and having the goods sent to an address in Grimsby/Cleethorpes!  When the Halifax investigated the account scam, surprise, surprise it had all gone to an account in Grimsby!!  Police not interested, I contacted my mp and told him that it would be easy to find out who had done it, he contacted the chief constable of Wiltshire and hey presto it got investigated and an arrest made!!  Sadly the person arrested was not the person who had done the hacking, she was being paid £50 to allow the money to go to her account and then draw it out and give it to the hackers.  At first she denied it but when presented with the evidence her solicitor advised her to co-operate with the police and she sung like a canary.  Apparently the police were able to clear up several crimes up there including drugs and prostitution - if I hadn't pushed the issue it would never have been investigated!!

Did not get the same message but something similar this morning with the "Dear Customer". Knew that was a scam as also had a proper e-mail from Pay Pal that had my name on it and was telling me about my recent purchases through them.
