Does anybody know of a decent EPOS software system for a touch screen system & PC backup. It needs to be quite cheap or free & if it come with a stock control program as well would help.

Thanks in advance for the help & also the abuse.

It depends on whether it is for Retail or Hospitality really.  There are not many decent cheap/free ones out there, they are cheap or free for a reason.

UK EPOS is one of the cheap ones if you want basic functionality but if you have issues they are not the best at helping you out.  Wasp is another cheap one.

Depending on what you want and how you plan to use it, one option would be to get the free demo version of Microsoft Dynamics (RMS or POS2009).  With that you can use a good amount of the package without restriction (the back office functionality and stock control etc.) The restriction comes with the front end till program, you can only put a maximum of 5 lines on one transaction, but if you are not planning on selling more than 5 things in one go then that would be a way of doing it for free.  I used to run an E-Commerce web business selling EPOS Hardware on the free demo version of RMS/POS2009 so I know it works.

I think you can get it here, and there are some other suggestions to try there.

One word of warning though, Microsoft no longer offer support on the product, they bought AX and are putting all of their efforts into support Microsoft Dynamics AX instead, so it might not be a long term solution.

I used to work for a Retail EPOS provider that dealt with tinpot small companies, but now work for NCR in the hospitality world.  I think the NCR product might be a bit OTT for anything you would need  Cheesy we deal with more the BK, KFC and Nando's of this world.

Let me know what you are after and if I can give any advice I will.  I can even provide you with a Polish Chubbsy forum member who will support POS2009 for pint and a packet of crisps..  Wink

Was in high grove not long ago and noticed they were running POS2k9  I had to chuckle and the poor old lady behind the counter trying to use it.

Its is for a retail envoriment, i am torn between getting a touch screen pos set up & getting software that can run a till/stock control program on 1 or 2 PC's & having a separate cash drawer. We have always had a normal type of till with lots of PLU's but they have no stock control on them. Overall i am sort of looking for a stock control program that can also work as a till but on a budget, some of the Sams4 till systems have a stock control program that comes with them but they also  run on a barcode system which we don't use at the moment so would need to buy a barcode program as well.

I looked in to this a bit some years ago with the aim of setting up a POS in a shop to interface with an ecommerce website. IIRC it wasn't that difficult to use a barcode scanner to enter the products on to a manually entered order on the website (to be accessed from a PC next to the till). Main issues were no link to the cash drawer and card payments, though it would have given full stock control over the website and the shop (which was my main aim).

Might be worth looking in to whether anyone has developed a package to add POS to one of the open source ecommerce packages. There were people working on this back then (for osCommerce) but I don't know if it ever came to anything.

Though I wish I'd just shelled out the money for a decent POS system instead, would have paid for itself in no time.
