Does anybody know if Swindon have an MP, Mayor, leading local official in any capacity, who is a genuine fan of the club?

Tomlinson is a fan when it suits him politically.

I've followed him for years on Facebook and there were some pictures on there with him in a Blackburn shirt on a few occasions.

Tomlinson is a fan when it can get his stupid grinning face in the paper.

Seem to remember he worked with the Trust when he was a Counciller during the bad old days.

Indeed and I like to think I outed Tomlinson as a fraud, back in the days when various Trust luminaries were fronting him up as the proposed Trust Rep on the Board of STFC.

It was plainly obvious that he was a political chancer....not an STFC fan.

At the risk of jumping on the bandwagon and adding a comment about someone I've never met, I do recall years ago when he was just starting out as a local politician in Swindon that he had a sporting affiliation with just about every place he had lived in or represented.  Could be wrong on this, but was he Bracknell based before hand at all?  I think I can remember he followed the ice hockey side there as well as STFC in the longish list of his allegiances.  (If I'm wrong, it kind of invalidates everything I've written, I know.)

That was a long time ago, however.  I suppose you can't discount the possibility that he may have become a dyed in the wool fan in the meantime, just like anyone else.

One other thing.  I did find a book while browsing the sports section of a bookshop once where a selection of MPs were given a chapter each to describe the love of their club.  This, again, was a while ago and the Hon Member for Cheltenham was definitely a Swindon fan, as I recall.

I think you can safely discount the possibility...

what an absolute crock of shite Reg

True, talks were being had with him, but predominantly around the proposed ground redevelopment and the strained relationship between club and SBC at the time

Can't be arsed to argue about it...the proposed fan rep on the Board was never going to happen, so the Trust's putting up Tomlinson as some sort of suitable fan's candidate never got off the ground.
