Most hard drives are replaceable doesn't matter what they are in

Many thanks one and all, think I will just update to the 1TB as it looks easy enough to do

Bit more info here, you should be safe with a sata 1 or 2 drive. Would avoid a Sata3 you don't want to have to start jumpering the drive to reduce the speed

Those instructions are for the FreeSat version. Don't think he's got one of those. And unless it's one of the HD models, it will be an IDE drive not SATA. If it's still in warranty cired, just ring Humax - I had one and they sent out a courier to take my old one away and replace it with a refurb, no quibbles. Fantastic service.

But when that finally went, that also manifested as a hard drive issue and it wasn't as simple as just replacing the hard drive at all - sadly this time it was out of warranty so ended up going SoR on ebay. Shame, it was a cracking piece of kit.

If you're not even sure what type of drive you've got, you're potentially just throwing 50 odd quid at a suitable AV compatible drive (and yes you do need to get a suitable drive, esp for IDE models), more for a 1TB, only to find there's more to it than that. Then you end up ringing Humax anyway, they send you out a free refurb but you're 50-80 quid out of pocket for an AV compatible drive you don't really need. Oh, and if you've had the lid off you may find you've invalidated your warranty so then you're an unusable drive and PVR down on the deal.

Just call Humax, their customer services folks are very good. Or they were when I last dealt with them which was about 18 months or so ago. And you'll save yourself a shedload of hassle
