Over the past two years I have become a part timer (maybe 15 games) due to baby, homelife and work etc. Got my season ticket back in the town end and yesterday was my first game as missed all pre-season. It’s been a fair few years but yesterday I felt proud to be a town fan, not because we won, but because we played as a team, each goal was celebrated by all 10 outfield players.
Main players of note to me were Flint, Connell when he was on and Ritchie. Gonna be a good one this year....can’t wait for City

Agreed. The collective spirit was oozing out of every brick, droplet of sweat and blade of grass at the CG. We're in for the best value season in donkeys years!

What caught my eye was the quality sat up in the stands, never mind the depth on the bench. The lads have raised the bar. The challenge will be delivering against the new expectations. Confident they will.

I think it's easy too look back and be pleased with yesterday. But what I like more is that we still have Esajas to come in on the left, Kerrouche to come in alongside a fit Connell (one of which will probably play with the new targetman), Risser to get over his nerves and Comazzi to come in and command Flint or Devera at the back.
I know we also have Lanzano coming back, but Smith was near faultless yesterday and I can't imagine any keeper (at this level) being so much better than Smith he improves our game. Cibo/Kennedy likewise, unless he's massively better than Kennedy.

I think this a team that can get better. There was a hell of a lot of room for improvment yesterday but they will improve and if we can hit form then I can see some team getting mullered. There were players missing yesterday and some underperformed. We rode our luck but won 3-0 against a team who will probably be mid table. Not a bad start. I also liked the idea that PdC played both Kennedy and Bodin. Thats got to be a great sign for the Thompsons and Evans of this world - put the work in at training and you'll get picked. A great start but its only one game so far so cautious optimism from me.

Maybe PDC intentionally left some of our better players on the bench, to bring on as impact subs when Crewe were spent?

I thought Paolo unlike Wilson or Hart used the right subs at the right times yesterday, can't remember Wilson taking off Greer or Douglas very often whatever sort of game they were having. It was a good decision to take off Risser when he did and we didn't get any stroppy throwing of shirts etc, he even stopped to put the arm band on Caddis himself. Crewe looked spent at the back and Connell just turned the screw a bit more. Macormack looked hungry and eager to impress so subs IMO worked a treat. Still a few to push for places which can only be good.
