Start a new job end of month which is office based so for the first time in a long time i'm required to wear the usual atire. Not having purchased a suit for about 10 years now can someone in the know shed any light on reasonable suits at reasonable prices in Swindon?

You can get yourself something cheap and own brand from the likes of Burton, M&S or BHS.
Or there's a couple of places in the Outlet Village that sell 'label' suits at pretty reasonable prices.

Marks and Spencers.
This. M&S's do a range of wool rich blends that are perfect for the office. They wear a lot better than the pure wool suits that go a bit shiney if they're for everyday office use. You could pick up a couple for £300.

Not many places that demand you wear suits these days but what I would say is shop around, not for the price but for the fit. Different companies will use different cuts and finding a cut that 'suits you' is more important than the label. Nothing worse than seeing someone who has paid 600 squid on a suit and still looks like a bag of shit! And nothing feels better than finding a suit for 200 that fits like a made to measure. Don't fall for the salesmans patter and get a suit adjusted - it will never feel right. If you are tall then Hugo Boss in the outlet do suits that are cut proportionately at reasonable prices...

It's a shame you can't pick up a decent second hand Burton's demob suit these days, back in the 70's, you could still find some tidy items, at Army and Navy Stores. They were still being issued til the end of National Service in the early 60's.
A lot of people thought they were hopelessly outdated, but I thought they had a bit Bogart about them....and I loved all those old black and white films.

I can't agree with this enough. Scrub what I said about the M&S suits, basically I love them because they fit ME perfectly. Actually if you've got the sort of money trisero is talking about then I'd go made to measure which is cheaper and easier to do now through places like: http://www.asuitthatfits.com
