"I would not get out of bed for £1m," he told the Swindon Advertiser.

Love it.

The quotes are old so this article shouldn't cause too much concern.

Another story about Austin leaving, the press are really struggling to find domestic football stuff to write about right now.

Should we read anything into the Nottm Forest friendly? Do they have any reason to agree a friendly with us if there isn't any player discussion happening? Not necessarily Charlie.

Just a thought (that someone probably already had on here two weeks ago...).

Could just be that Forest are a good side who were fighting at the top of the CCC. So we want a high quality final friendly before the start of another promotion campaign.

This is just Sky proving they're even slower on the uptake than the Adver. How worthless is a football "news" service that re-runs week-old stories from the Adver as breaking news FFS?

That explains why we want to play them. Why do they want to play us?

Perhaps just fond memories of Danny Wilson...

Because we're a good team, who'll provide a good test? I'm just basically trying not to think that it's because they want Austin. Any talk about him leaving makes me want to cry.

That's like saying why are we playing Supermarine is it because they want to sign one of our players - the answer is no it is a pre-season freindly against fairly decent opposition so a good test for both teams

Well it's not really is it. I suspect we're playing the SS because they're very local and it's very simple to arrange. See, that was easy.

Not so clear what conversation led to Nottingham Forest saying "yes, let's head for Swindon as part of our pre-season prep". I'm not saying it is linked to a transfer, only remarking that agreements with bigger clubs for friendlies sometimes have other strings attached. But that's probably enough speculative pixels spent on this topic.

We'd have to be fucking stupid to sell our star striker the week before the season starts. I'd also think Forest will want their squad sorted by then, not to mention the fact they have a fair few strikers at the club already.

We want a challenging friendly, they see us as decent but beatable opposition before they kick off the new season.

I think and obviously hope that's the case, anyway.
