I'm interested in place names and how they've arrived....and always assumed with no firm evidence, that Penhill is like the River Avon....namely a Celtic and Saxon word for the same feature.  Pen in Welsh meaning hill.

A gathering of chavs outside the Magistrates Court.....should be there somewhere.

Few years back, I met a decent looking woman from Penhill...she was in OT because she was in a refuge for domestic violence victims.

She told me, I could have the lot, if I was prepared to take on the baggage.....ex husband banged up in Horfield,  boyfriend who she claimed she wanted to get rid of, who'd dished the beating and had a restraining order, junkie 20 year old daughter, and a couple of young uns who were difficult at school.

I politely declined the offer, and knew what she would do....back to boyfriend who dished the beatings, who's main attraction seemed to be as he drove taxis, she could get free lifts when pissed and leaving dodgy nightspots.

A lorry driver once stopped in Gorse Hill and asked me the quickest way of getting to Penhill,i told him the quickest way was to not pay his mortgage for 12 months Cheesy

I lived on Penhill Drive for two years as a youngster,to be fair the area has now got a lot of local people putting the effort in to make the area a better place to live.
As for a coat of arms, maybe a Deer leaping would be apt.
