Anyone on here know much about Working and Child Tax credits? I'm pretty sure the lovely cunts at HMRC have calculated my allowance incorrectly  Roll Eyes

Looks like I'll be calling them tomorrow.......

I just can't understand how they work it out. Calculate online comes to one amount. Speak to HMRC, its higher. When they finally work it out and send me the details, its a lot lower than both figures previously quoted and I can't make sense of the numbers.......

I sure it should make a significant difference if your child is disabled too......

I'm confused.

Obviously it depend loads on what you earn... But you should have two amounts, one of which is Working tax credits and the other is Child tax credit add them both together and thats what you should have each month. The paper work they send you can be really confusing!
Im guessing you get DLA for the baby? It does makes a huge difference in the amount of child/working tax credits you get if you are on middle or high rate DLA But if its low rate you dont get any extra. Im fairly clued up on both if you want any help feel free to pm me Smiley

We've only just applied for DLA (well, just before Xmas), and it takes 8 weeks or so to process the application. So I guess there is correlation to be done there in due course.

Its just the figures on the documents that HMRC sent me are so random - apart from the info on earnings I gave them - they make no sense whatsoever to me. I guess the only way I'll understand the figures is to call them.

And don't ask me why it takes 12 weeks for HMRC to process a simple application for child benefit......heed this news parents to be.......

Did you have help filling out the DLA forms? I found them to be a nightmare! Thankfully i have a carers charity that help me fill in mine. I was also told upto 12 weeks but it all came through real quick as i had alot of school and doctors reports which i sent to support my application.
As far as i am aware you need to wait for your DLA award to come through, let Tax Credits know which rate you get and they will sort it out within a week... and back date it to the day your DLA was claimed

Kind of. Hada a long chat with Santini (who works for the Downs Syndrome Association) and followed their written guidance to the letter. Also a lady from an organisation called Contact a Family. Both very helpful. Now just waiting for DWP to come back with an answer.

I found it really hard, as you have to think of everything about (in this case) your child in the negative sense. Harder for me as at the time of submission, he'd only been with us a week or so, so we didn't really know him or what his needs are.

Phone call to HMRC imminent.....
