No, it's a stupid yank thing they do with certain breeds like dobermans, it's an operation that means the ears are permanently 'pricked up'.

It's banned over here I think. Dobermanns with cropped ears look a little bit mental.

My housemate's Border Collie goes mad for a laser pen. My Labrador on the other hand will just look at the dot as if to say "that's shit".
