Yeah it was free when I downloaded it a few days ago.  Did you go to .org?

Sounds like you downloaded a dodgy copy from a sketchy website. OpenOffice.org should still be free I think.

You definitely get it from openoffice.org?

There's a few weird versions of the address like open-office-download and stuff which look a bit sketchy.

Happens all the time with free software so never pay for something you think should be free. A lot of free anti-spyware/malware software suffers from the same, which is quite ironic Smiley

I think they get around it by offering 'support', as Ben says they tend to be very sketchy websites.

Exactly, they bind pay per install progs with freeware constantly now. All you have to do is type Openoffice or any number of other decent freeware into google and look at the number of ads.

It's how Zango has such an enormous advertiser base. And how many people are making a decent amount of cash binding for the likes of Zango, Luxecash, Vomba, etc., etc.

Reminded me I need a copy for my mum's laptop. I had a computing adventure with that yesterday.
