Ilkeston Town, FA Cup 1st/2nd round a few years ago, my first season as programme editor. I was a bit wet behind the ears and in an attempt to lift the doom and gloom of what was a pretty horrendous season (the todd/king season 00/01?), we decided it would be a bit of fun to put a banana skin below danny invincibile's foot on the cover. Terrible decision in hindsight, but was only meant as a bit of fun. Kingy slaughtered us on the radio, saying we were trying to undermine him, while my boss gave me a good dressing down!

I can laugh now, but I wasn't then!

That's actually quite funny and yet another example of what a bell end King was! (Not to mention whoever your boss was at the time)

I thought it was genius, but then I was only a year out of uni. Hey ho, live and learn. If I did it now United would go bonkers!

I will say, though, while Kingy did chew my balls off (about that and a lot of other things) he was a decent bloke, I still stand by that.

Having met and spoken to King on a few occasions I can concur that he was a decent guy....just a shame about his managerial ability

He was a mint manager. Took us from tottering instability of Todd, but still lost his job, then did the same again from Roy Evans and managed to improve season on season all the way up to our play off jobby. Thinks started to dip then, but he still had a pretty good run as manager.

A first-rate scout who would be great to have around for the banter on the training ground.
