Can't you just cancel the payment with your bank and wait for them to contact you?
Yes, but after reading a few threads on t'internet apparently they can re-establish the direct debit without the need of getting your permission. I know it sounds unlikely this is true, but after an incident with the AA taking money from an expired debit card I can quite believe it.
