This bit. They gave him a contract and they should pay it. If you can suddenly start not paying people because of moral obligations than meh.
Although I don't get why if he'd only managed a few training sessions they couldn't have sacked him earlier. It's not really very clear.

...that lie going for 5 weeks - 14 days = 3 weeks? Surely you wouldn't be held on remand for 3 weeks for motoring offences.
