Fair enough.

I just think striking is completely counter productive. Nobody wins.

And it doesn't happen in the "real" commercial world. Hence my comments about quasi-public sector organisations.

striking was very much the last resort, the management have been completely unrealistic in their attempts to force through the changes they want.

i had a 'discussion' with a stuck-up receptionist lady at the Holiday Inn the day before the strikes last week, she told me that everyone's in the same boat, but no-one else is striking. well, not really love... not at all.

under-researched know-it-all people suck.

From what I've read a lot of the working practices at Royal mail beggar belief in the real world, such as knocking off early if your work is done and the non automatic covering for colleagues who are on holiday or sick etc.  The pensions and beneifts you recieve are better than anywhere in the private sector.

all these strikes have done is lose the workers public support and push forward the end of the royal mail as it currently stands.

When people are on holiday or sick their duties are suppose to be covered by what we call 'leave reserves', those 'leave reserves' get a list of those duties that are available which they then put down as their 1st,2nd & 3rd choice, it is then allocated to them but we're so short staffed that 8 times out of 10 nobody is covering them absent duties as there aren't enough leave reserves to cover them.

I think all postmen should  be sacked, and with the money that is saved everyone should be given a free computer. This way all forms of written correspondence can be sent via email. Presents and stuff can be delivered by small people dressed as elves......or even dressed as Elvis.

I'm not having a pop at you personally here as I appreciate you are just explaing how things work, but when my boss is away I take on most of his duties. This means longer hours and much more work but it has to be done. I dont get paid overtime for it. i dont get any help from anyone else. I just get some kudos from senior management when they see things dont go wrong in my bosses absense. This is the way things are in most private companies
