Just looking back and comparing starting line-ups from a few seasons ago.

First game of 2005/6 season - Barnsley away:

Evans, Nicholas, Ifil, O'Hanlon, Collins, Smith, Pook, Whalley, Roberts, Cureton, Thorpe.

First game of 2007/8 season - Northampton away:

P Smith, Vincent, Ifil, Aljofree, Smith, Roberts, Pook, Adams, Zaaboub, Sturrock, Peacock.

So only Ifil, Pook and Roberts survived two seasons. Who'd have thought that at the time eh?

Looking at the standard of player from the two starting line-ups, our current team should be better. Only time will tell I suppose.

I was thinking last night how teams and players i had previously rated would now fill me with dread.

Hewlett, Robinson, Heywood, O'Hanlon, Evans...

I couldn't imagine one of those players getting in our team now. Not for shit.

In fact, if any of those or similar had a game for us now, i've no doubt they would quickly relieve Pook of the booing which follows him.

I makes me realise how much hope i had in previous teams, which was merely blind optimism. Our current team is of a very high quality with ridiculous strength in depth.

No it wasn't, I looked at that as well:

Brezovan, Vincent, Ifil, Williams, Smith, Shakes, Pook, Weston, Monkhouse, Roberts, Peacock.

Of which 7 are still in and around the first team and 1 is not playing but still at the club.

Shakes, Weston, Monkhouse, Williams, Brezovan. I thought Evans started as well. He was in my thinking.

None of them are either here or start anymore. To be fair that's half a team really.

Nicho is still here. And is our longest serving player I think?
I think the only people from the play-off season who would get into our team now would probably be Sam Parkin and maybe Brian Howard given how well he seems to be doing for Barnsley

What was significant for me was the difference from when we played Brentford during 2005/06 when we lost 3-1 at home. Brentford really should have gone up that season too.

Swindon Relegation 2006: Evans, Gurney, Smith, O'Hanlon, Nicholas ,Shakes, Smith (Diagouraga), Whalley (Brown), Benjamin (Jutkiewicz), Cureton, McPhee

Subs not used: Peacock, Jenkins,

Brentford Play-Offs 2006: Nelson, O'Connor, Tillen, Sodje, Turner, Brooker (Rhodes), Newman, Pratley, Tabb, Owusu (Willock), Gayle

Subs not used Bankole, Smith, Lewis

Our reserves beat a basically (from what I understand) full-strength Brentford side.
