I would rather win the league at Old Trafford, but I doubt that will ever happen.

I would much rather be sitting top of the league than hoping for a decent 4th round of the league cup draw come January.

Injuries and suspensions, that's all you get with a league cup run.  I don't think Bill Power will be too worried about missing out on a "glamour" tie against Hartlepool in the next round.

I said to my mate before the game I wasn't really that bothered if we won or lost - the performance mattered more for me. Get hammered and we'd lose confidence ... good performance, win or not, is a positive.

Think its always been the case that the early rounds get a lower attendance then it builds up....take a season like 89/90, we start in the Seciond Round
3 OCT    Shrewsbury Town 5,544

FOURTH ROUND
29 NOV    Southampton    Home    0-0    15,085

Completely at odds with the FA Cup where it's usually healthyish attendances throughout ...

R4E: I'm sure the chance of getting a plum tie should be enough to motivate them, and I'm sure it is in the more prestigious FA Cup ... but the League Cup, really, is a noddy cup. I often wonder why they bother with it these days ... Obviously, I didn't think that when we'd just gone out to Leeds a few seasons ago. Nor when we went out to Man Utd ... erm ... oh bollocks. I've just talked myself out of my arguement.

No I'd say it was a pretty similar pattern, take 95/96 as an example....in the FA Cup, probably the last season we had a bit of a run...
FIRST ROUND
 Cambridge United    Home    4-1    7,383

FIFTH ROUND
17 FEB    Southampton    Home    1-1    15,035

Ah but the initial attendance was much more in line with a normal-ish home game ... and it went up for a 'big' club, as it should. My point was that the initial rounds in the league cup see lower attendances. Not sure I made myself entirely clear, Reg, sorry!

Yep its clear enough, but I'd say that is pretty much how its always been in the LC...take a season like 66/67....our average league gate was 12,000+

We get Bormuff at the CG 1st round....crowd 7,769....we get through to 4th round v top flight Baggies and its 16,254.

No doubt had we got through and drawn a decent Prem club....we'd have had a 10,000+ crowd.
