i want them both to play, dont think it will happen though

I just think Wise will soon see how much a player of his ability can affect a game at this level and will inevitably get more and more involved playing wise as McMahon and Hoddle both did. You just can't have all that ability sat on the bench. I think perhaps Gus may play less often as
Dennis will need to some one on the bench to give him a different perspective.

he certainly is shit, but the balance he gives us could be invaluable.
remember last year, loans aside, was his first real season in pro football and he never really got a proper go at it so it was inevitable he'd struggle.
im hoping a good pre season, plus his experience from last year might see him progress a touch.
add to that bury fucking loved him a couple of seasons ago, it might be a case of him "finding his level".
the real point is the balance he gives us, we all complained when king played players out of position week in week out, well this would be our most orthodox right winger playing right wing, who would've thought it?

I think Poyet and Wise may feature in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy - Which I think would be an ideal run out for them - giving other players a rest if need be.

However, Wise and Poyet have not featured in the friendlies so maybe that's saying something?

Thinking about it logically, what do they have to gain by playing? They don't have anything to prove in the game that can be proved by playing at this sort of level.

I think that they are going to be concentrating far more on the management challenge of taking over a club with an average squad and a small budget, and turning it into a winning team. Turning a player like Roberts whose career was going down the toilet into a matchwinner etc.

Surely it's just taking the easy option for them to get involved in the playing side themselves.

That said, I'd enjoy watching if they did.  Smiley

But wouldn't that be harder to achieve (and presumably more satisfying) if they did it without having to resort to playing themselves?

The answer is in the question really... "The team they manage"

Looking at the squad in terms of having 2 players in each position, which is what Wise has said he wants then we'd need the following:

GK x2

Right-back x2
Left-back x2
Centre-back x4

Right-winger x2
Central midfielder x4
Left-winger x2

Forward x4

so, we've got the following:

GK: Brezovan, P. Smith(?) - 2/2

Right-back: J. Smith, Gurney - 2/2

Left-back: Vincent, Nicholas - 2/2

Centre-back: Williams, Ifil, Comyn-Platt, Gurney, Henry - 5/4

Right-wing: Shakes, Monkhouse - 2/2

Central midfield: Weston, Whalley, Wise, Poyet, Pook - 5/4

Left-wing: Monkhouse, Rodrigo(?) 1/2

Forwards: Roberts, Peacock, Jutkiewicz, Onibuje, Brownlie(?) 4/4

Looking at that, we could do with a left-winger to replace Brown and another central midfielder as well as a goalkeeper but it's looking likely that Smith will sign, or so Tuttle said.
