Well I think we should just play Lampard, Gerrard, Owen and Crouch. Lampard and Gerrard may be compromised a bit but I'd rather those two in central midfield than just Carragher and Gerrard, Hargreaves and Gerrard or Carrick and Gerrard to be honest. What we'd gain in balance we'd lose by not having Lampard on the pitch.
But yeah there's no perfect answer. I think Sven will probably stick with yesterdays formation which is ok but Carrick should get a chance as holding midfielder.

What odds would you get on England winning the world cup and crouch getting the golden boot? surely long enough to be worth a quid or two?

Exactly my point, if we're going to find a system that works then we're going to have to drop one world class player (Owen or Lamps) in order to accomodate a player who will allow the other world class players to get the best out of themselves. I reckon he should drop Owen & play Crouch as a lone striker. At least that way he can hold the ball up for Gerrard, Lampard & Cole to bomb on to & nick a few goals. Owen hasn't looked fit enough for me in the last few games & can't play that role anyway. Carrick as holding midfielder. Will be interesting to see how we line up against Jamaica at the weekend

It seems Sven will start with Crouch and Owen up front tomorrow. Good news. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/teams/england/5040586.stmEngland (probable team): Robinson, Carragher, Cole, Terry, Ferdinand, Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard, Cole, Crouch, Owen. That's our best team I think.

I'm happy with that team. I'd like to see Lennon brought on nearer the end this time though, unless Lampard, Beckham and Gerrard are all on song.

whoever plays the holding role has to be able to provide the killer ball at the same time.carragher is ideal if you are protecting a lead but if brazil are coming at you non stop you need someone like BECKHAM to provide that killer ball over for owen or rooney to get on to.once you have done that 2-3 times in a game the opposition instantly think fuck we gotta be careful ourselves here making them slightly negative themselves.unfortunatly beckham will not be that player imo...on another note totally going off topic if england do well this year it will be down to the best defence we have had for years

Crouch was ace today! it'll be him and Owen up front next week for sure now. Gerrard was awful today because he was back in the centre with Super Frank

Crouch was superb against Jamaica, twattish penanly aside. There was more to his performance than his two goals and robo-Crouch celebrations.
I still have reservations when it comes to better quality opposition. But he has clearly earned a starting place and the chance to prove me (and others) wrong.
Moreso he looks more of a threat than Owen at the moment.

Neville at right back? Carragher dwelled for too long too often and didn't really know what to do when he went forward, despite having loads of time.
