Ford Ka convertible?! I'd personally have the Mazda, just because it has a better image - none of this naffing crap about performance/reliability/build quality - who cares about that bollocks as long as it looks good?! Shows what you know about Automobiles !

if an mx5 suits you then go for that, they're a decent car and the best in that range, just a bit limp for my liking. saying that i'm still driving a 1.1 fiesta which doesn't exactly scream testosterone but i'm skint for the next few years as a stoodent

First time driver Daz, regardless of age you will get absolutely fucked on the insurance for those.
A lad of 21 down the road from me is driving a simple Vectra, but it's a 1.8. 5 grand insurance, ouch.
A sporty car will be a bit more I'd reckon.

I'd go for a mark 1 convertible (if it has to be a soft top at all). You can then hang out with surfer dudes like..... http://www.geocities.com/wolfgangthetalkingvw/Images/History/A1CabrioletBurgandy.jpg

If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit...

Aye over 25 and not far to commute I got a fair chunk knocked off mine by specifying I do less than 9000 miles a year. The default was about twice that, so might be worth a mention with regards to coinage saved.
