he was born in swindon & says he's a fan. not sure he would have enough money to start giving it to us though. i expect he could find much better uses for it anyway.

I've never spoken to him, he was always just this little fella who played music with some of my friends and hung around with Denzil's sister.  Didn't like his face then, don't like it now, 100% not a Swindon fan :D

Just cos he's famous doesnt mean he's rich - not proper rich. We need someone with some serious money, Oil, Steel, pharmacuiticals, drugs, brewing/alcohol that sort of stuff. Cullum isnt likely to make much more singing that shite anyway.

You have debates about Jamie Cullum?

Cullum was born in Essex and grew up in Wiltshire.

There used to be an advertising hoarding in the DRS stating pretty much as such.

Yes Jamie Cullum is a Town fan despite what some people say, he was at Wembley for the JPT and the last play off final because he said so on his Radio 2 show. He has also been a guest of Lee Power and Andrew Fitton at games.

Also on Radio 2 co presenter Tim Smith from the Steve Wright show is a big Town fan, again self proclaimed, for last Christmas Steve Wright bought Tim a pair of Swindon Town socks :D

I met Jamie through work about nine years ago, had to direct him for a piece for some lottery show, and I used out mutual Town support as an ice breaker. we'd lost that day, and he had just come off the phone from his dad who'd been at the game.  He was thoroughly pissed off with the result, a true fan.

He was here last year for Elbjazz festival and also the Echo Jazz award evening, where I meet him briefly.

Think he was happy to find somebody who spoke English, we spoke about Swindon. He seemed to know his stuff

Whose Jamie Cullum?

I'm always surprised to find Town fans where ever you go in the Berkshire area - work, pubs, abroad, especially those who supported us in the 60's and 70's but no longer go.
So many conversations in pubs starting who do you support? Swindon - so do I - have you gone recently  - answer no - why - been a couple of times but just not the same, etc, etc, mainly watcy Reading these days or go to non league games.
Why have we lost so many supporters?

Its not the same but they go and watch the plastics? Could understand going to watch Borussia Dortmund or something if you wanted atmosphere but Reading? I highly doubt they were fans to begin with in the true sense of the word.

It's all about facilities isn't it.
Elm Park was a total shithole, the new ground is fantastic lets be truthful, and from having 4,000 fants they now have fantastic support (as long as they are winning (plastics)). I'm sure we always had better support.

Our facilities, though improved all not good enough, to go forward we need to do better.

Fans who live in Swindon always want the ground to be in the centre, being a supporter who comes from mles away, has petrol costs, parking expenses, pays over the odds for a 1st division match - that is the reason we are losing supporters.

So you'd rather have us in a soulless, 1/3 full, identikit bowl somewhere next to the M4?

No thanks.

If it means having 20,000 fans inside a stadium with great facilities at the same price, then yes.

The county grond has no atmosphere, facilities or o awful, and it has no soul anymore, the ground has had its day

I've supported Town for nearly 50 years and will to I'm in the burner, loved the old days, but now, NO.

Can't argue with that.

But, you can't assume that new ground automatically = 20,000 crowds and premier league football. See Darlington, etc.

As for no atmosphere or soul - that's, in general, just modern football unfortunately.

Be careful what you wish for  :)

I'm someone who travels miles to watch Swindon, has to worry about parking & petrol costs, and I would much rather stay at the county ground than end up at a ground like Colchester which is in the middle of nowhere.

And having driven to the Madjeski before, it was a nightmare to get out of after the game, much worse than getting away from the CG.

I've seen some fantastic atmospheres at the County Ground week in, week out. The stadium is not the issue where atmosphere is concerned.

Reading fans I know leave the Madjeski 5 or 10 minutes before the end, whatever the score. If they don't they'll be lucky to get out of the car park before 5.30.
There's a new station approved for Green Park so that might help things when completed.

The same Reading 'fans' that hand out hymn sheets before games! Plastic wankers!

I'd really like to play them as it's been a few years since we stuffed them 3-1 at their place and it all went off!

People spew out of games early at pretty much every stadium in the country.

I went to USA vs. Colombia at Craven Cottage last month and I ran out of the ground to beat the crowds right as the referee blew up for Full-Time. Pretty much everyone stayed until the end so it was quite odd not having to dodge through people to get to what I expected to be a busy Tube.

ieve

Fair enough
Where did getting away from the ground come from, I believe you just seconded.

We are about 1,000 fans down this season on where we should be - a better side this season, playing good football - why aren't the fans coming?

The price of a ticket? - Maybe
The Facilities? - Maybe
The price of parking your Car? - Maybe
Getting Away from the ground - NO

Title: Re: Jamie Cullum - Swindon fan?

I'm not sure we are 1000 fans down, are we?

Even if we are, and tbf I agree attendances have been disappointing for how well we're playing and where we are in the league, I would put that down to:

1. The boardroom nonsense, and general negativity, in the summer (I know quite a few ST holders who didn't renew for that reason)
2. As well as we did last season overall, lets be honest the football was often pretty dull at times
3. Attendances are down generally, aren't they? Doubt its just us.

Anyway, if attendances are down on last season then its unlikely to be down to the facilities, price or parking, given that they're all the same this season as they were last.

1. The boardroom nonsense, and general negativity, in the summer (I know quite a few ST holders who didn't renew for that reason)

I still think this is the major reason.

Added to the fact that as ST's renewals were such good value compared to single match tickets that once the mess was resolved (although even that is still up in the air) the prices put people off.

The problem is that those supporters that miss a season will be hard to tempt back.

I think you have to accept that there is a category of fan that got interested because of pdc and big spending.

Now that buzz has gone so have they.

The fact we are as competitive, and can play some devastating football matters not. Maybe they'll take note if we are still in it later in the season.
