If you look at their fixture list. He’s got a busy month of June.   Well done that man.

Well, there are different types of drum, some of which wouldn't disturb the CG from its slumbers too much.

Drum or no drum. It's not before time. I wish them success in the endeavour.

I hate drums at football, and some twunt with a megaphone sounds like a fucking nightmare and a quick way to make ourselves a laughing stock the same way we laugh at any other teams with 'assisted' noisemaking.

'Wanting to emulate'  European Ultras... European Ultras groups typically have ties to right wing or neo nazi groups outside the stadium, and provide a connotation of violence. Following in from that, a kapo was an enforcer in concentration camps, typically of Jewish heritage, who essentially worked for the Nazis for preferential treatment. Maybe that's what they want to emulate'?

I like the increasing prevalence of bucket hats though. Perhaps the whole town end could all come wearing bucket hats.

Swing and a miss lads, maybe try something that's a bit less... fascist...

The political side of it didn't even enter my head, but there does seem to be an element of that to most European Ultras groups.

I just hated the suggestion initially because its fucking shit and tin pot.

Yeah, the majority of Italian Ultra groups for example have far right affiliations. Wasn't always the case though.
The history is interesting & sprinkled with a lot of tragedy over the years.

On the whole, maybe the efforts at Crystal Palace would be the better model to adopt for fan groups wanting to make a go of it over here.

Thought it was decent/reasonable in the run in.

Read somewhere that the penny dropped that if we support more then the team will respond, but looked to me more like the penny dropped that if the team attacks more then the fans will respond.

McKirdy asking us to meet half way seemed to be responded to.

Little bit of both I think. Players respond to support. Never heard a player say their own fans jeering and groaning spurred them on.

Anyway whoever this person was has now deleted their account. Abuse was unnecessary IMO.

….it was us.
We got relegated to L2 in the 2005/06 season.

Bradford got relegated to L2 in the 2007/08 season.

However, thankfully we won’t be first ex Premier League team to be relegated out of the football league as Oldham have already done so

Oldham had two top 6 finishes in those 21 seasons.

Remarkably (…or depressingly) in the 8 season before they were relegated they finished;

15th x2
16th x2
17th x3
19th x1

It was us when we went down in 2005-2006, although Franchise went down with us and some might say (Wimbledon fans certainly wouldn't) they are the same club as Wimbledon who of course were in the Prem.

But of course people are going to comment. Maybe there's a way to do it, but it's still going to happen.

Yeah, footballs a passionate sports. We all say things on emotion, some not so nice but in a lot of cases actually true.

For example, I’ve been critical of Iandolo since he came back into the team because - well, he hasn’t been good at all. If he’s read that - maybe it had effected him but ultimately he’s had to go looking for it to find my comments if that makes sense. If you’re going to go digging on the internet for comments about yourself you should be prepared for all sorts.

However, stating those opinions (whether they are right or wrong) directly on said players social media or by @ing them on Twitter is a big no from me. Wouldn’t dream of it.

I know what I’ve said comes off a bit like ‘it’s not ok to say it to their face…but…fine to talk behind their back’ which isn’t exactly the point I want to make.

Footballs a sport and a lot of people pay good money to support the club so think they are entitled to express a respectable, non abusive opinion - even if said opinion is negative.

Let’s be honest, it’s discussion about the football club / results / performance / the team that keep us coming back, unites us (either online or in person)

I had a run in years ago with Nicky Campbell on Twitter where I had observed in a tweet that he wasn't coming across as being particularly empathetic on a programme he was introducing and it didn't really sit comfortably with the overall tone of the programme, I literally said no more than that and wasn't arsey about it and he had obviously been searching for his name as he sent me a really passive aggressive response.

TBH it just reinforced the opinion I had always held about him being a prick but there you go.

I genuinely can't work out if the backlash was due to a player having been directly targeted (@), or whether people are objecting to general moaning under the #stfc tag (or here. or) that goes OTT.

I'd assume the former but I've not actually seen it.

Just imagine if we’d had social media in the early 90s, Fjortoft would have been seen as a useless flop instead of having legendary status as surely he’d have been gone before Christmas and would never have scored a goal for Town

He was…but…unless he was in the pub after a game (where I assume pre internet post match dissection took place) I guess he wasn’t personally reading/hearing the fans thoughts…making it easier to concentrate on the football?

Pretty much agree with all of that.

FWIW every Town fan without counter wants all of our players to be great and do great things on the pitch and be amazing for Swindon, but, they are L2 players, they have limitations and often lack consistancy hence them playing in L2 so errors will happen but if those errors outweigh the good things then they deserve to be criticised for it.

Some players are not good enough quality and some struggle with form but being critical is part of the game, as is praise, praise when praise is due and criticism when it is deserved.

Abuse directed at players face to face is not acceptable and never has been, but it seems that recently that so often a criticism is stated as being abuse to suit the person being criticiseds point of view. Or more often than not labelled as bullying nowadays.

It seems that there seems to be a fine line between what is considered bullying and what is considered criticism, but to say that all players are above criticism would be wrong too.

Indeed. But that made no difference as we were going to send him back. Maybe SM expedites things, maybe it doesn't.

I'm just in an argumentative mood for no real reason.

From a football perspective we were indeed set to send him back as it wasn’t happening for him
…but that decision would have been purely a footballing decision with no outside influence.
Plus, evidently Fjortoft never lost confidence in the fact he could come good. Whether that’s purely down to his character or not - is hard to say.

Would Fjortoft in 2023 handle the situation the same as Fjortoft in 1993
Probably not - at a guess.

And nearly all of them created by fast movement pulling the defence out of position rather than static fannying around in front of a packed area. Could be something in that.

So much speed. Garner's side are remembered as being slow, but they were slow-slow-ultra fast when they spotted an opportunity. This year we don't seem to have that change of pace, it's just one speed - fairly slow.

Three out of 12 from this season.

I really wanted Lindsey to succeed but the more we saw of him the more it became clear that he was completely out of his depth. It wasn’t his fault that he was appointed after a ludicrous “search”, so Sandro had set him up to fail, but his abject interviews where he came across as thin-skinned, irritable and petty are firmly on him.
You can’t go thumping the badge one week and scurrying off down the tunnel the next either. He was absolutely all over the place!

Pre-season was a joke, approach to cup competitions was criminal, fell out with key players, worst post-match interviews I've ever listened to and his form before he left was as bad as Morris'. He was just rank bad.

It is painful watching clubs who were traditionally lower down the pecking order than us now holding their own in the premier league in a swanky new stadium. Meanwhile we continue to stagnate moving one step forward and two steps back on a never ending cycle. The apathy reaches so low that it’s laughable that the fan base get excited at the prospect of a tarpaulin roof over Stratton Bank while we mix it up against the football giants of Barrow and Harrogate etc.

I often wonder what we have done to warrant one shady owner after the next and was really hoping Clem was going to be the real deal, however as time goes on as we learn of the people connected with the club and the projects they are involved in I’m not so convinced these days. Great news that the club and trust have secured the stadium purchase but where do people think we will be in 10 years time? My guess based on nothing other than a gut feeling is The County Ground will still look the same in 2 years time and Clem will have sold up once he has realised that this project is to big for him. How could this season end in such a shambles after the complete opposite of last season? Will be interesting to see if the new Wrexham owners make similar mistakes.

We’re a better prospect for a buyer now than ever, if (big if) the finances can be presented transparently in a way they couldn’t under Power. The size of our fanbase makes us a far more attractive club to get hold of than most in League Two. Our ceiling is higher. We just need some Hollywood moneybags….  hopefully they’ve been on the phone to Reynolds and co and asked if his mates want to play the same game he has…

It isn’t just about celebrity money - Wrexham have gained celebrity status and as a result are now ‘desirable’ to the younger generation.

Ryan Reynolds has made their fan base realise that football is about entertainment and they’ve had that in bagfuls.

Relentless Misery supporting Swindon.
So envious of other Clubs we used to play regularly and are now way behind them. Feels we have just accepted this “as good as it gets” apathy.

I think they do IT and recruitment so it might be normal practice but wondered whether anyone had any input at all?

I guess they are providing a "weed out CV" service so the club gets to concentrate on the higher quality candidates.

Not that unusual for a company to handle recruitment for another up to a point.

I'd imagine the head chef does the final phase.

But I don't *know*

http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/MatchCentre.asp?Friendly=YES&MatchID=1913801000

To be fair, we don't know when Jefferson scored, so it could well have been a last minute goal to salvage a draw. But yes, 2 goals in the last 10 minutes was a thing even back then! I was going to suggest there might have been a J.Morris on the bench, but in 1912 there was no such thing!

Sure I read somewhere that it’s nearly 10 years since we got further than the 1st round of the Caribou Cup.
Its been since 14-15 season when we reached round 2.

We have only been to round 2 twice and round 3 once in the last 10 years in the FA cup too so 7 1st round knockouts.

Swindon was always renown for being cup underdogs but this century we have been anything but that.

We badly need a good cup run to galvanize the club and fans and beat some big sides, Flynn has a decent record in the cups TBF to him, Lindsey and Garner both never seemed very bothered about a cup run.

Interesting fact I found while checking some things yesterday.

Last season was only the 4th time in 40 years and the 5th time in 100 years that we have had a club leading league goal scorer (Williams on 10 league goals) who had scored 10 goals, or less, league goals in the whole season.

The others being

2001 Grazioli and Invincible 8 goals each
2013 Ranger, Smith and N'Guessan 8 goals each
2016 Obika and Norris 6 goals each

I think that shows

You have to be aware that, pretty much by definition, 10 league goals is NOT fewer than, or under if that's how you want to describe it, 10 goals.

So that's not a fact.

'massive' is certainly stretching a point... It's fair to say that we're a 'big' Club for L2 though. He'd have been playing for Walsall when we took 4000 up there and a lot of Clubs struggle to get 3000 for home games whereas we averaged 9000ish last season...

I am aware of course that being a 'big Club' at whatever level is ultimately meaningless and it's all about the 11 on the pitch...

So nice to see the players interacting with the club staff and fans.

I'll never forget seeing Olly Lancashire, then club captain, and Jak McCourt coming in behind the Arkells before a game, heads down, ignoring all of the staff's hellos from the likes of the doormen at the Winner's Lounge and so on. Absolutely dreadful.

Elm Park was always a cracking away day.
First time I went we lost 4-1 and was in the South Bank, the main home end on the side.
Pissed down with rain all game and they had the legendary Robin Friday playing up front for them.

Won a few on my travels.
Remember Chris Hay scoring and stood on the open away terrace with the temperature way into the 30’s. My mate collapsed due to heat exhaustion but the real cause was the amount of beer he consumed in the pub before hand.

Dated a few girls in my time from Reading. Used to drink regularly there as was a decent night out.

I’ll go first.

Before we kicked a ball in anger and looking at the squad, yes. However, seeing how we have played and the results so far, no.
With what we have, getting into the PO’s is a gamble especially with a thin squad. I’d be worried of a Pork Vile scenario where we literally run out is steam on so many levels. Tantalisingly close but no cigar.
Autos please, then there is no doubt, you’re up and planning for next season. Hopefully we have a stonking FA Cup run putting some dosh in the kitty enabling us to strengthen the squad for that final push.

Dunno yet.

Think next month will be the proper acid test to see how good we really are.
Plus then there will be January when Young & Kemp go and we inexplicably sell someone last minute on deadline day.

Plus, tbh - I fucking hate the play offs. I’d rather finish 8th than finish 5th go into the play offs, win the home leg, lose the away leg & go out on penalties…or worse still get to Wembley to not turn up, not score and get dicked 8-0.
