In home games vs them Town have won 6 drawn 9 and lost 3 scoring 25 and conceding 23 goals here. Our biggest win a 4-1 in 84 when Alan Mayes bagged a hattrick. Our heaviest defeat was the embarrassing 6-2 defeat in Sept 86 under Macari a game that proved to be the end of the line for Town keeper Kenny Allen who was replaced in the next game by Fraser Digby. We had the last laugh that season though as we were promoted via the PO's and Blackpool finished mid table. That defeat in 86 was Blackpools last win at the County Ground a run of 7 games unbeaten for Swindon. Keshi Anderson is out for the game but ex Town loanees Ballard and Yates are in a good run of form with Yates sitting on 17 goals in all comps (including 7 penalties). Under normal circumstances would have expected his signing to be a relatively straightforward exercise in the summer. Similarly, the blood pressure might also go up a notch or two with Jonny Smith attacking the wrong end on Monday. An unexpected point today would be excellent. For 5 mins we looked quite good, we had the best chance bar the goal and for 10-15 minutes it seemed Garrick might be OK. Right, the rest of the half was a debacle waiting to happen. Back to the shit we've tried in previous weeks of just sticking people in positions behind the ball and conceding the game. On top of that they snuffed out our only threat. If we get a 0-0 by the end of the game you take it, but it was asking for trouble and it came with a non-centre back exposed as will always be likely. They've had a a couple of previous entries where they were undone by their own lack of quality, but you can't just play like San Marino and hope to get something from a game against competent opposition. I thought it was atrocious watching overall, Blackpool look better than us by a margin, but even they were passing to advertising hoardings for most of that half. For most of that half we were simply getting into set positions to defend, which meant they could gather possession and reset every time they had it, with zero pressure. You change it by applying pressure to their men in possession in their half and at half way rather than standing back halfway between our own goal and halfway. The way we set-up you can only win possession back by your own box, then we have to get 3/4 of the pitch to theirs, which is hopeless when you are simply knocking it long to a man with no support (because everyone else is so far away from him). For the first 10/15 Garrick was an outlet but they seem to have figured out how to nullify him or are simply not as worried as they were initially.

Given how awful we've been most of the season, this hasn't been horrendous. Blackpool look a really tidy side, certainly one of the better I've seen us play. Kept up with them for 30 mins and then they turned the screw a bit but we held our own until the first really. Wasn't expecting much from today but reasonably pleased with how we've played, little bit toothless but we've had some chances at least. The performance against Fleetwood was a good one. Less so against rovers but we defended well enough. I don't like Sheridan but credit where credit's due and all that. I'm not saying Sheridan doesn't get any credit for the response in that game against Fleetwood, but this game is suggesting it was a reactionary throwing something together than any great plan based on principles. This game looks, on the face of it, like the ones before, which may be because he has had more time on the training field to plan an approach. It's not a statement of fact, just a thought. Not a great performance but as others have said it was far from the worst, at least a few players put in a shift without much end product though. Blackpool passed it better (after the first 20 mins) and were far more clinical in front of goal than us with 2 decent strikers who both bagged a goal today. Tight as a gnats chuff at the bottom and Monday is a big ole game for us, lose and we are back in the mire but grab a win and the table will look way better. Each team will be playing leapfrog until the final game of the season. Yesterday with the exception of Northampton, results went in our favour and as has been said we really cannot afford to lose on Monday at The Brewers, especially if other results again go in our favour.
