We will start brightly for 3-4 mins, before Crewe score. We will look shell shocked for 15 mins before settling and trying to get back into the game. We'll then concede again and limp through until half time. The second half will start slowly for us as we are pinned back. We will then start to get more into the game, but not have any clear cut chances - But any chance we have we will fluff. The game will end with us losing by something to nil and we will all be annoyed.

Some TEF members will disappear for a couple of days. Others will post copiously. Some will abuse others for no reason - One member will write lots of long posts and carry on regardless!  :girlgiggle:

I know the football and this season in general has been asolutely hideous, but I still look forward to 3pm on a Saturday when I can tune in and watch Swindon put in a generally abject performance. Its 2 hours where I can put my feet up, have a couple of beers and 'escape' from the daily grind.

I'm kind of past caring if we lose now and don't see any benefit in getting worked up about it so in a masochistic way quite looking forward to tomorrow given we missed a game last weekend.

I would say Thompson, it's clear he doesn't want to play for the manager. When there is no plan to work from and the manager gives you incomprehensible shit, regarding his own (devoid) tactics, I will be very surprised if anyone is listening to him or has any respect for him.

What an odd team selection. Nothing new. I feel really sorry for both Tyler Smith and Odimayo. Both players have had their careers temporarily destroyed by this manager. It's frankly shocking treatment. El Shezza does love his boy Palmer though. His selection is almost "Curranesque".

Watching the game got me thinking that the only players I have any affinities to whilst actually playing for my club today are Caddis, Conroy and to a lesser extent Broadbent, the rest will in a few short months be instantly forgettable.

Well that was pretty dire.

Nobody has a clue what to do and where to be.  You can almost see the cogs turning in their heads as they try to remember what they were supposed to be doing.  It's another case of a new formation and players thrown together with little thought for what to do beyond defend and hit it long.  The problem with that defend by numbers approach is nobody trusts each other because they haven't played this way enough, or with each other.  So you end up with a back three looking a mess - nobody knows whether to step-up or drop off, or what the other two were supposed to do.

JoJo looks OK.

The midfield three look terrible, to a man.  No clue how to retain possession and little better when trying to defend.  Payne is like a school kid, just runs to the ball all the time, meaning there is no structure.  Missilou has no footballing brain at all - I assume his game is to just be a nuisance and tackle people.  He certainly isn;t much kop at that and worse in posession.  Palmer may as well be on the sideline, no influence at all.  Other than a couple of times where he pressed well, he generally has an ability to be nowhere near anything of consequence in the game.

Garrick - um, is he this bad?  It's hard to judge players given the failings of the management team.

Pitman - pointless, if he has any strengths left we have no idea how to play to them.

Caddis seems to keep ending up as an advanced right winger - I doubt that was the plan.

Thompson is playing the left side in a completely different manner - it's another symptom of a rudderless team.

Overall, lucky to be level.

Sympathies are with the Crewe Fans, but not the Crewe players. Missing that many clear opportunities on goal almost deserves punishing. It’s happened enough times to us over recent years.

Don’t like digging players out but how Garrick is getting a start ahead of anyone else is completely lost on me. One of the least threatening players I’ve seen since George Barker was here. Our threat level on the Crewe defence upped from very very low to just low when he was hauled off for Hope.

As for the rest of the team, the individual performances were a long way off perfect, but I’d say adequate for the bottom half of this league without getting relegated. The main issue though is that it looks like the players have all been training in isolation from each other. Just what the fuck is Sheridan doing with this lot between matches?

Awful return. In the first half, he was at least 10 yards upfield from the player he was supposed to be covering. When going for headers, they all went off target to a Crewe player. He got better as the game went on, but kept letting his man get goal side. Headers improved in the second half and made a couple of good interceptions (with his head).

Slightly better than the other two, but Christ, his lack of pace. Had to play RB at times to help cover Caddis. Couple of good interceptions/blocks

Tried hard, as always, and was given license to play a bit further forward. No one to play with going forward. Conroy helped him out lots defending

Payne 5
Probably the liveliest of the midfield. Faded though and offered little for most of the game.

Missilou 3
Positioning woeful. Did nothing. Poor game

Palmer 5
Good delivery for one or two corners. Provided little else, other than the pass to Pitman in the build up for the goal.

Garrick 5
First touch of a rapist! Awful in the first half at best! Improved in the second half. Turned his man a couple of times and was like grease lightening. But, didn’t know what to do on a couple of occasions when through. One piece of skill set up Pitman for a very good chance that he wasted.

Pitman 7
Used as a battering ram again. Flicked and over headed a few to try to put Garrick through. Missed one golden chance. Made a couple of others. Also, cute back heel to Hope who shot at the keeper for the rebound to come to Twine to score.

Came on at 71 mins. First touch at 82 mins. Scored at 94th minute with second or third touch!

Hope 6
Came on at 81st min. Had a couple of possessions. Shot at the keeper to get the rebound for Twine to score!

That’s half my point, why are we playing him as part of a central pair if he’s a winger, over Smith, Hope or even Omotoye who are far more suited to the central position to play off Pitman.

Regardless of his position though, I’m not convinced of his ability to beat his man (considering he’s supposed to be tricky and pacey) or find a decent pass. In the 4 games he’s played for us, I barely need one hand to count the amount of times he’s looked like he’s going to put a player in on goal or going to score himself. When he got in behind down the left channel in the 2nd half case in point. Great opportunity, did nothing with it.

I suspect that has been said about STFC's other attacking options

Jurassic won't be going anywhere this season while his mate still owns the club.  So we have to put up with this no tactic hoof ball and scraping wins through the incompetence of opponents to put the ball in the net and hope it happens often  enough to stay in L1.  Its going to continue being a tough watch until the end of the season.  Somehow we are out of the bottom 4 tonight so happy for that.

I disagree, I think he offers nothing, discuss why you feel he looks good enough as I don't see it, at all.

Someone has rightly pointed out that comments on individual performances should carry the caveat that they are being “coached” by fucking Sheridan. I completely acknowledge that.

It’s the selection ahead of other options (that have proven to be somewhat effective) that baffles me. But again...Sheridan.

Got to ditch 5 at the back, though. Nobody looked comfortable with that. For me, the first choice CBs should be Conroy/Odimayo.

Twine is a must start as well. At least he’s likely to have a pop. If Sheridactyl can put the team first and ditch his prejudices, the 2 DMs should be Liden/Grant if fit. Pitman is the only option up front but needs another striker playing off him.

4-4-2 is a must for this group of players and the position we are in. No way are we going to be that fortunate again in a very long time.

In the excitement of a win, it’s easy to overlook and not mention how good Wollacott was. Excellent performance. Hope he can stick around for the rest of the season and without succumbing to coaching from Shez.

He was excellent, not sure he is allowed to stay for the rest of the season as the loan is limited to 7 day extentions at a time and we have to prove to the EFL that we are actively looking to sign a replacement, pretty sure we cant just say extend it until the end of the season, which would be a no brainer for us if we could.

Ah fair point if true. I made that statement without knowing what the rule is on emergency loans these days. I’d assumed we’d be allowed to extend the loan as required due to us only having one senior keeper at the club and Travers being recalled presumable against our wishes. Makes sense then that we’ve only extended the loan by a week from the initial 7 days.

Town pick up an unexpected 3pts and from one of the teams not in their "must win" list of 6. Town still have all of them to play.

Going off previous, and before today I still think 18pts would be enough to scramble to safety. Had Rochdale not picked up a point Town would be above them too (3 on 27pts, Dale, Town, Wovvers as it stands). There won't be these obscurities for Town every week but there might be for other bottom 7 sides from time to time.

It goes without saying that picking up wins against most of the other 6 is imperative to Town's L1 survival. I mentioned previously that Town might not best Burton and possibly one other (still could not tell you who) but should have enough to beat 4 of them. I think Town can beat Wigan, Northampton, Wimbledon and one from Wovvers or Rochdale. Probably Wovvers.

That gives 12pts but beating Crewe today adds a bonus to be 15pts gained potentially. One other anomaly win or 3 soulless draws against any of the mid table bunch will still be needed to hit that 18pts gained.

Personally I'd like another win in there to have gained 7 wins to give Town a 21pt gain. Which would see Town finish on 45pts. That's definitely going to be enough in this division full of mediocrity and shite. I still stand by that an 18pt gain (42pts finish) will be enough as well; purely based on the increased number of shit teams. However it would be incredibly close on those kind of points. It would probably come down to GD.

The conclusion I want is Town to be a L1 club and Sheridan to be gone end of season.

We can’t go with Broadbent and Grounds as a Centre Back pairing.
They were all over the place, kept playing Crewe on side, leaving huge gaps not marking.
Dion Conroy was clearing up all over the back line and a real Captain display.
Keeper when they did break through was outstanding.
Every one else on the pitch barely a 5 out of 10.

Can’t keep the ball, can’t pass the ball and midfield once again overrun.

We won though and that with all other results was fantastic.
5th from bottom, Power and Sheridan out would be a terrific season.

Haven’t read back and couldn’t watch today, but I can only assume this was a great win and that Sheridan is turning it around - credit where it’s due, he deserves this success, and great to see him getting the most out of Scott Twine.

In the relegation seasons of 2010/11 we had 31 points from 29 and 2016/17 we had 30 from 29 and we sat just above the dotted line.

I think you're right about 6 or 7 wins from here to stay up. The concentration of games this season just mean if you find a bit of form your position could change quite quickly in a week. Likewise, you could be cut adrift.

We need to start picking up more draws and nick a point if we can't find the win especially in the games with the teams around us. We go through win one and then lose 2 or 3 almost the opposite of Luke Williams 3 draws is a win mantra.

The current set-up isn’t good enough to win six or seven games or even go on three or four game unbeaten runs. We’re consistently second best all over the pitch, look ragged and uncoordinated.

I’d be shocked if we put in a performance against the Cobblers that suggests we’re a team that doesn’t deserve to be relegated.  I’m hoping for some miracle that it’ll all come together and we fight our way to safety through our own endeavours but it just doesn’t seem possible under Sheridan.

My 3 kids regularly attend games home and away with me.  However, they haven't watched one game on ifollow.  I am slightly concerned that they will have little appetite for anything STFC related once we can return to live football.

I think that the problem is that lower league football has to be enjoyed in a live setting. It doesn't always work well on the small screen.  Also, going to the football is a habit. Once the habit has been lost, I wonder whether a proportion of younger (or Indeed, any) supporters will necessarily be arsed to go back.
