Title: Crewe A vs STFC MoM
Post by: Red Frog on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, 21:31:24
Papering over the cracks tonight. I can think of a player who showed a decent amount of energy, and one who helped keep the score down. But enough from me... over to you TEF. :sherlock:

Good to see some love for the keeper.

Poor performances all around. Odimayo gets it for me as he was consistent.

When we were good, Payne was very bright. When we fell away, he was a big part of the problem as he was covering Caddis, but bearing in mind everyone dropped off so much I'll give it to Payne as his first half was very impressive (a bit out of position on the right?)

This is obviously going to be a contrasting and possibly more difficult choice than Saturday.

Too many senior pros or playing with a lot of minutes weren't on it tonight so I would personally look at those younger players or with less minutes.

Tyler Smith and Broadbean looked as if they were going to continue some kind of partnership but couldn't see it through in the 2nd half.

Granty obviously gets a mention for bagging the opening goal, when everything looked a little rosier, unfortunately he's playing at the limit and as the game went on this showed. Needs a rest but we don't have the personnel. Crying out for a Doughty or Rose type to fill in.

Again Matt Smith did a fair amount of decent stuff and this was a below par Matt Smith to boot.

Odimayo takes credit in a very inconsistent defence. Similarly to Matt Smith, Akin you can tell is a decent bit of player trying to do well in the given situation.

For me, and this may be unpopular but Kovar again played one of his better games. I touched on goals conceded recently where the defenders weren't doing their basics, like tracking their man or keeping close at corners. There is a point when you do have to stop turning round and looking at the keeper, when the defence (across the whole squad) is clearly quite poor, inconsistent or unfamiliar. Admittedly, injuries don't help this. But Kovar really did keep this to just two. I would say he was poor for one of the goals yet the rest - the defence (as a squad) have to look at themselves.

It seems odd to give a keeper MoM (feels a bit like that Oxford Vote) after the team have shipped four goals but I do feel he is an improving goalkeeper.

I expect a damn good hounding out from others now and having to relinquish my freedom of the Town.

I think you may have fallen asleep at an opportune time - don't bother looking up the score ;)
