Title: Top 10 STFC conversions
Post by: Flashheart on Saturday, November 28, 2020, 18:05:03
I could post a million threads today

By conversions I mean players being played out of position that turned out well.

I'll start: Alan Mcormack under PDC. A midfielder put in defence because of injuries and ended up as arguably our best defender that season

Andy Rowland to centre back.

Jimmy Quinn when he came preferred to play centre back but Beamish moved him to centre forward and he never looked back.

Didn't Steve Mildenhall start in the Swindon youth team as a centre forward too? that seems to ring a bell.

Big Dave Bamber came as a centre forward and was moved to winger by Macari successfully.

Charlie Henry into a midfielder
TBH Henry played more as a 2nd striker or close to what would now be a number 10 than an actual midfielder. He was a pretty decent right back before the move.

I don’t think that’s true about Mildy but McMahon (I think) bought him on upfront for his debut (I think) against Tramere (I think) despite him being a keeper

I remember him coming on against Tranny, but I thought I remembered an interview in the programme afterwards in which he said he played as a teenager up front for the Swindon U16s. My memory at times is not quite what it was though.

That was the game. Dunno about his teenage career. Have to ask him!
