I would love it if Power took the side, simply for the meltdown.

I wonder who took training this week?

Isolating in Salford?

So what’s the difference between last week and this if the game goes ahead?

I heard this week that there has been little or no training due to most people in the playing squad self isolating.  Doesn't give me much confidence for the game.

They might be out of isolation now depending on when they took the test/last showed symptoms. You have to isolate for longer if you are a contact than if you have a positive test (14 days v 10 days) so they would be out of isolation before Wellens is.

The bit I don't get is why RW can't get another test and come out of isolation. The incubation period is 3-5 days right? So, test on day 5 and get back to it. Infuriating.

Re who takes the game - it would all depend on whether any of the staff who did have it have since have been tested again and been negative. If not, god knows. Alan Mac and Peacs at a guess.

I did notice that Millwall's captain took the team. Not sure if he was injured or whether they just decided it was the best decision. I'd be delighted if Baudry took the team if it meant he wasn't at CB.

We're going to get pumped.

I'm on them to score more than 1.5 goals at above evens. Scored 3 times in both of their last 2 away games I think.

Fair enough, annoyingly and bafflingly.

Existing long enough to complete the season and staying up were my initial hopes for 20/21.

I’ve already revised this to just existing. Under the circumstances, I’ve become numb to the recent poor results and I don’t feel the need to invest emotionally if I’m not there.

So long as the lads show the right attitude, another defeat this weekend will wash over me.

Title: Re: Hull City
Post by: Panda Paws on Friday, October 30, 2020, 16:03:37
Why bafflingly?

I find it baffling that despite testing negative you have to isolate for 14 days - considering they're looking at reducing that to 7 or 10 days even without a test.

Title: Hull City
Post by: Batch on Friday, October 30, 2020, 16:14:26
I see your point.

if I heard it right the reduction is because they think people will be more conformant than with a shorter period. A balance of risk, which must be reduced the longer  the period goes.

in any case it may be that one or two of our positive testers have completed the 10 days?

Solid defensive display. No mistakes at the back - CB pairing resolute. Keeper plays a blinder with several world class saves. Midfield clicks, breaking up play and first to every loose ball. Up front we are a menace and after missing a couple of early chances, we become clinical and cruise to an effortless 3-0 win!

Will be interested to see the team sheet at 2pm, as no idea who is or isnt fit, with no updates this week. My hunch is that Hunt, Lyden and Iandolo will be back so going with this:-

Kovar, Hunt, Odemayo, Grounds, Donahue, A Grant, Lyden, M Smith, J Smith, DJ, T Smith
Subs Fryer, Iandolo, Caddis, Baudry, J Grant, Payne, Hope

Hopefully a bit more solidity with the extra midfielder in Lyden and Matt Smith operating as the most forward of the midfield 3.

2-2 draw with two of the three Smiths on target.

Same here in South Somerset, heavy flooding on many roads and awful wind blowing around anything thats not tied down, could be touch and go if its like this up in Swindon.

No lassitude with supporting the team here.
If we can’t be sat cheek by jowl in the CG coughing and farting away to hearts content, then next best thing would be limited numbers in a 'secure' environment.
That’s not happening at the moment either so next best thing is watching online.
It’s better than nothing.

Low expectations for today, just be competitive and give them a good game.
Too early to predict a season of struggle just yet.

A good overall record against them over the years but different directions for both clubs since the last league meeting 15 years ago.

Time was when you coughed to cover up a fart. Now you fart to cover up a cough.

Anyway, no reason we can’t win this IF we stop the defensive howlers. No reason to think we actually will, so a defeat for me.

In 40 games vs 'Ull over the years the Town have won 17, drawing 15 and losing 7, scoring 49 and conceding 32.

In 20 games at the CG Town have won 12 games drawing 6 and losing just twice, scoring 33 and conceding 15. Town have won the last 3 on the trot scoring 10 goals and conceding 3, our last game against them back in 2004.

I remember a few of the games well, the 96 championship winning season under Muckmahom when they looked absolutely awful in a relegation season and we had probably 75% possession, we kept the ball for over 3 minutes at one point in the game while the crowd were gleefully shouting Olé with every touch. On loan Everton midfielder Tony Grant scored a fantastic 30 yard chip (5 mins into the video).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14PqqY1eKxE&feature=emb_logo

Hull currently sit in 2nd place winning 7 of their 9 league games scoring 15 and conceding 7 and losing just twice, one was a 4-1 thrashing at Fleetood and a 2-1 reverse home to Posh, a game apparently they should have easily won.

Despite their decent start their fans are less than enamoured with their manager Grant McCann, with many of their fans calling him very wittily(!) Grant McCant.

They have no players or staff with a Swindon connection and we have no players with a Hull connection.

A few comments from Hull fans on their forum.

Quote
At home to Swindon?
We'll ****ing muller them by a veritable hat full.
Nine nowt.
If we'd been away it'd be a different story mind.
The mullering would be on the other foot.
Nowt nine.

4-0 City

5-1 City

City 3 nowt

We'll smash the ****ers, but 'some' still won't be satisfied.

I must be 'some' then, cos I'll only be satisfied when we are back where we were before McCann took over

We should get the win here, their team is suffering absentees due to Corona Virus, so likely not to be fielding their best side. Having said that, if City going into the game thinking that, it could come back and bite you on the bum.

And the usual Swindon knocking, which is so ironic from "Hull" of all places! a city regularly voted the worst city in the UK to live in.

https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-east-yorkshire-news/hull-worst-place-to-live-2302333

Quote
Under normal circumstances I would have gone to this one but thanks to covid I can't, which is good because it's a bit of a dump.

It’s a ****ing **** hole of a redundant town, like a posh Grimsby.

Residents of Hull have similar opinions of their city. Though the Swindon one appears to have a better grasp of English.

I will be happy with a draw today under poor conditions and many injuries and Covid related absentees, I expect several of the youths will be called up to fill the bench today.

I had the 'pleasure' of living in Hull for six months through work in the late '80s. I can confirm that it is a typical end of the Road Town and the only reason for going there was because you lived there. It has improved significantly in the last 20 years and, in its favour, I used to do alright at the dog track at Craven Park and picking winners on a five-dog track was easier than one from six. The surrounding area in really nice and Beverley is a superb town with a good racecourse.

On the negative side, I did not make a friend there for the entirety of my stay and there seemed to be an inbuilt hostility to any soft southern bastards. Not the greatest six months of my life, although the last six months have not been especially brilliant either. Oh, the marina is nice though!

Yeah, the streets could do with some litter picking but there is some late Victorian and Edwardian architecture for away fans to admire along the way if they are of a mind to do so.

Pretty scrappy game so far, we are trying to pass the ball but Hull are closing us down quickly so we aren't getting the ball into as many dangerous positions yet. We still look pretty shakey at the back when they do attack.

Absolutely, we just can't play against the wind, be a very different story 2nd half, hopefully we can keep them down to a single goal and maybe even grab one on the break, we arent playing awful.

Impressed that we remained patient after going a goal down.

Still look a bit suspect at the back.

J Smith and Caddis linking up well on the right.

Certainly came more into the game as the half progressed. Lots of possession early on but couldn't do anything with it.

Great thinking by Caddis and good vision from J Smith for the goal.

Thought we came more into the game as A Grant became a bit more influential. We had a threat down the right with J Smith and a bit with Donahue on the left.

How have we conceded against these. They are dog ****.

Nice one lads, you've gone from making them look Sunday League to looking like equals.

Swindon are poor so how we are going in at H/T 1-1 is beyond me.

I think Swindon will tire second half, our quality will do them, but it's another first half that we haven't taken advantage of.

Overall we should be doing better as Swindon are far from being world beaters.

Swindon are not great at the back, but they're half decent in attack...

fanstastic win. been telling everyone all week to bet on hull. obviously i never did  :D

out fought them. 2nd half all hull did was lump it forward and usually its our weakness but everything cleared easy.

payne and hope brilliant pressing.

pre-season i thought to myself the whole success of this team would be down to our wingers and showed today with jonny smith. with him fit, we have a danger- such pace, crossing and shots. without him there is little spark. also fantastic defending by him.

massive win.

Title: Re: Swindon Town v Hull City matchday thread
Post by: RobertT on Saturday, October 31, 2020, 16:40:46
Thought we played quite well in spells, but the last 20 mins we were asking for it a bit.  The defence still looks ropey, teams seem able to find space far too easily.

Having said that, they didn't really create that much.  Thought we could have taken full control of the game if we'd carried on as we were playing.

Overall, workmanlike.  Take the points, see out another week financially, await the end of the season - seems likely the lower leagues are hanging on by a very think piece of string right now.

Lifted my mood no end that.

Apart from a couple of mistakes we edged that and deserved the win. Great CF performance from Hope. Hasn’t looked like scoring at all but brilliant at bringing Payne and the wingers into play in the final third. Wasn’t getting the service at Northampton but showed flashes of being very useful when he came on for the last 20 mins in the game before that. Great to see it come off today.

Hunt:
- Boys fantastic
- Showed character
- Second goal pleasing
- Gaffer wanted us to pass the ball
- Good J Grant off the mark and Hope played well
- Hope reliable. Gave us the platform. Which was important
- Room for improvement. But put in good shift
- Before Covid holiday we worked on defensive shape. Paul Jewell worked on it
- Odimayo and Grounds passed it well
- On another day we would have scored more
- We are not going to get any penalties this year!
- Payne should have scored
- Stopped the rot. Needed to be defensively strong
- They had a couple of big boys and good attacking player
- Defensively we were really, really strong
- Great result for the young boys
- T Smith feeling his groin
- L Haines. Had to be called back as we only have 15 players
- Havent looked ahead to Tuesday yet
- Will assess the group now and start planning for Tuesday
- Paul Jewell took training Wed and Fri. Lee Peacock helped
- We are one big team from kit man to Press Guy. Everyone chips in.
- Hunt still coughing but not contagious.
- Wellens was calling through. Hunt already had a couple of missed calls
- Wellens back for Tuesday

Hull fans take so far on the result.

Quote
What's the excuse, I wonder, for losing to an injury ravaged, **** Swindon Town side?

What a load of **** this has been.

****ing shocking performance

It's not good enough, whether the manager or the players are at fault, somebody needs to sit them down and explain, using violent imagery, to them that this isn't good enough.

Criminal defeat that.
Bunch of frauds.

That’s a really poor second half. We tired badly in midfield.

Terrible, we stopped playing after 20 minutes. Is that 3 losses out of 4?

well we got out of that exactly what we deserved and that`s a big fat zero ... leggy, uninspired, and devoid of any quality whatsoever. Outplayed by a team struggling with injuries and form

We should accept poor results against ****e teams without criticising the manager or team because over a decade ago, we also lost games in this league.

Truly wretched afternoon. Rediscovered the art of throwing a game away and against a team who threw themselves on the ground every time we breathed on them in the second half. But they defended well in the last 30 minutes and we defended badly all game,

I called out our win vs Bristol in midweek as being from a poor performance against a poor side, and tbh, there wasn't any real difference today other than that we've played poorly and lost to what looks to be a poor side.

Very disappointing. I thought after KLP's goal we were going to romp it.

Lots mentioning defence and attack. What about midfield? Got bossed there yet again.

Seems the consensus is that they lost the game rather than we won it.

Really feel lifted by that performance. Pre match we were no hopers to many and certainly our opponents had us down as nil points. So MOM, all of them. That performance is what we were looking for after the early season wins. We are not that far off having a team to compete and do well. We, I feel have had (like other teams I’m sure), an injury list that is a massive spanner in the works to us especially in relation to our size of squad, depth and injury prone players. Coupled with some dubious reffing and a lack of Lady Luck have all conspired against us. How you respond is a measure of how good you are on many levels and today our boys were up and down that skyscraper like a whores drawers. So to conclude, immense performance, immense team spirit, immense win.

A good win today - last 10 a bit tense, and I wasn’t sure why we got nearly 7 mins of extra time - but the referee was poor through the game.
I think it’s difficult Initially to assess how bad the wind is on iFollow - at least until we saw both goalies kicking. That may have contributed to our slow start.
Overall we competed well, and passed the ball well. Second goal a gem.
Hope and Caddis were my MOM contenders- the way they eked out time in the corner was brilliant.

After going 1-0 down to a softish (but goof) goal we didn't panic, and upped it to get back into the game. The importance of the Caddis goal was matched by it's brilliance.... The second a beauty.

And while Hull did indeed force a fair few corners and have obvious quality, I never felt another goal was inevitable.

fair fucks. it's a funny old game..

I know we looked a bit shakey at the back occasionally but it was a lot better than some of the performances with Baudry at centre half. Kovar looked more secure apart from their offside goal and we moved the ball around well. All in all, an enjoyable afternoon and the second goal was excellent

Swindon look a poor side who we made look good

I love this type of away fan comment. if we looked good then how did we look a poor side. this was obviously a bad day in the office for hull based on their league position.

we out fought them and played some very good triangles around them in the last 3rd throughout. they just lumped it forward.

Some Hull fans must not be aware that football existed before they moved to their shiny new stadium

I suspect that similar statements have been made on this forum on many occasions.

Interesting that all of our positive results so far have come at home. If we can start picking up a point or three in the odd away match our home results could see us in a respectable position soon enough.

Also fun to note the Oxford mob are currently wetting their little yellow panties with talk of relegation rife already.

On to Plymouth for the mighty reds.

If we win the rearranged match it probably won’t count anyway - afterall we cheated to get the first match called off.

Our yellow pals now 24th.  Out of 24.

That's going to hurt.
Nah, didn't feel a thing.

Struggling the season after a play off final defeat and sale of best defender/captain.

Sounds familiar....

Didn't watch the game. How did Odimayo and Grounds work as a partnership at CB? Really hoping that it works as we've had no stability at all at CB.

Worked well i thought. Odimayo getting more confident every game

Looked shaky early match but after about 20 mins Odimayo started to play a lot better and had a good game. Grounds is a solid defender, he is always capable of making 1 or 2 mistakes a game but hes a better CB than Baudry IMO, being one is left footed and one right footed they do compliment each other well.

With Grounds' history and experience he was always likely to be a good signing at this level.

I'm feeling more comfortable with Kovar every game, even though he did still have a couple of dodgy moments. He's coming for crosses now and catching them rather than punching them. He also helped to start the attack for the winner

TBF they're right about the training facilities. Just goes to show, it's not always necessary/enough to have the best facilities, it's what you do there that matters.

Guaranteed 3 points for the away team but no biggie.  As observed above, the bigger picture is far more important.

Thankfully wrong this time JBZ. Perhaps it's time to reassess your approach to overly certain future results for Town?  :hmmm: They have been (understandably) negative.

I'm just teasing. Great result.

Also though, Hull isn't that bad a place. It's a cracking place. Think a lot are judging it based on the late 80s or early 90s. It has come on a bit since then.

understatement.

And when they scored their first I knew I was right. Right up until I wasn't.

Can't even call it a lucky win. We at least matched them after the first 20.

So, Plymouth on Tuesday then...

Firstly a little moan about the replays on Ifollow, I wish they would stop doing it so much during the game, it cuts into so much game play that you miss the flow of the match.

Anyway - I thought Hull absolutely bossed us for the first 20 minutes or so as we struggled to come to terms with them. When they scored I was the same as Jay 'same old shite etc' and really feared a bit of a battering.

To our immenses credit, and I think the Caddis goal, which came from very quick thinking by J.Smith came at exactly the right time and gave us a big wedge of belief back. We ended the half much stronger.

Second half I thought we really played well, Hope was tireless in his lone front man role holding the ball up well and we looked a real danger down the right hand side with Caddis and J.Smith building a great relationship. We scored an excellent second with a wonderful team goal from the back, J.Grant finishing well. We then saw the game out expertly frustrating Hull.

I think Grounds and Odimayo (bar one ridiculous pass) are very good ball playing centre backs and are improving game by game. Sometimes they ooze class on the ball. I think Odimayo's positioning still requires work but of course he is young and hopefully the experienced players can help him here. I do think our achilles heel is crosses into the box, Kovar took a couple of clean catches second half to ease pressure and I assume he's been trained to punch less. Its worth remembering hs is very very young and so probably needs a clean sheet or 2 or 3 good games until we really see him coming into his own. He didn't let his minor rick in giving away a silly corner in the first half affect him so fair play.

Hallam Hope was my man of the match. He ran himself into the ground, as did Caddis to be fair who is developing a great relationship with J.Smith. A.Grant showed some of his L2 form and made one brilliant tackle in the first half to snuff out a dangerous Hull attack in our box. When we get Lydon, Conroy, Fryers, T.Smith and Pitman fit and firing we should be fine.

on ifollow replays, totally agree.  I only learned recently such tech as 'auto ball follower' was being used thanks to that lino bald head incident!

is it possible replays are on auto detect too? if so, turn them off please ifollow.

I think goals only replays should be administered. I know its probably not viable but they could do an accumulated half time highlight reel of replays if they really must?

Why does the extended highlights have commentary from what I suppose the EFL Quest fella? Does he just add commentary after the game is finished?

I switched to radio only after the game and you don't get the adverts.  I assume you can do the same beforehand, but I didn't think about it until afterwards.

Think that is a sharing of resources agreement with the Press Association. A lot of the media companies do share their footage/resources; I would assume with a pre-agreed fee/contract.

I've done that a few times, problem is there has been occasion where the live video stream hasn't started up again and I've had to restart the browser or change to my phone's hotspot or some such other solution.

Don't fancy not having the video ready to go from kick off.  It hasn't been a problem before this season, the 1st season of iFollow was often ropey but since then it's been pretty good, extra usage from UK customers, I guess, has likely been the problem in this regard.  The introduction of these long ad breaks is also a new thing mind.

Fair point.  Safest to take the hit pre match and make the switch post match, I guess.
