Title: Swindon v Burton pre match chat and matchday thread
Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, September 25, 2020, 10:11:36
As nobody else seems to want to start a thread here goes nothing.

Swindon have only ever played Burton 4 times previously, 2 home and 2 away.

We have only won once and lost the other 3 games, we have only ever scored in 1 match vs these boys from brewery town and that was in our only win, a 2-0 home win when Benson and the easily forgotten Ronan Murray scored.

We have played 2 games at the CG with it being split 50-50 wins and loses so far.

So far this season Burton have 2 draws and a defeat in the League Cup, lost 2-1 at Fleetwood and won at home 2-1 vs Accrington.

They sit mid table alongside Swindon on exactly the same points/goals/goal difference as us of 3 for and 3 against with 1 win 1 defeat so far.

Swindon 0-0 Burton.

They have big inury and suspension problems, including missing their first choice keeper (O'Hara, with whom we were linked with in the summer) and O'Toole, the sort of journeyman I always fear.

And we have our own injury issues too, with the usual caveat of RW being an absolute shithouse.

Assuming RW is telling the truth, I'd go with:

                 Kovar
Caddis Baudry Fryers Hunt
            Grant Smith (M)
   Payne       DJ          Smith (T)
               Pitman

Spots on the bench for the new boys - Stevens and Donahue. Hopefully have AO back as defensive cover over Curran.

If Johnny is fit, put him in for Payne.

We'll edge this. Kovar will have a good game and we'll knick it after a keeper error from their back up.

2-1

Think you could be right with Pitman starting, Wellens on the last TOTT commenting on getting balls in the box made me think that.

I'm going for 2-0 as I think the defence will be better prepared after all having good minutes in them and I always fancy us to score.

Yep - interested to put T Smith in as a wide forward.

Hallam Hope is pushing for a start too. Wouldn't be annoyed to see him get the nod if J Smith doesn't make it, but dropping Tyler would be harsh.

Burton play a style reminiscent of Flitcroft or Curle at Northampton but not as direct as Wycombe, very hard working workmanlike without relying on skill players, they play the ball long to the big forward line whenever they can do.

They have a lot of journeyman players in the team, the shithousery of Bostwick will bully us if we let him, they only have pace on the wings so I expect them to sit back and let us take the game to them, something we do quite well, we have got better at breaking down sides.

On the Burton injuries..
Quote
JAKE Buxton’s squad will remain depleted by injuries and suspensions this weekend, but the Burton Albion manager is seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

With another week before Albion play Portsmouth, if the Brewers can negotiate a tricky away day at Swindon on Saturday (kick off 3pm) they should have more numbers by the time they play again.

Buxton said: “We knew it was going to be a difficult two weeks but hopefully after this weekend things will ease a little.”

Defender John-Joe O’Toole and goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara will both complete their suspensions on Saturday making at least two more players available by the time Albion take on Portsmouth on October 3.

And the injured members of the squad, including Charles Vernam, Reece Hutchinson, Michael Bostwick and Neal Eardley are all making progress with Vernam possiblly making Saturday’s squad.

Buxton said: “It’s touch and go for the weekend for a couple of them but it’s more likely to have one or two back for the week after.

“Charles has done a little bit today but was sore still and if there is any reaction tomorrow, he won’t be involved. He’s probably 50-50 at the minute.

“The lads are taking a little bit longer than normal to recover from games than before the pandemic as the repetition of Saturday-Tuesday games has been tough following such a long lay-off so the injuries had to be expected. But they are what they are, and we get on with it. Injuries are part and parcel of football.

“We have been positive every week from day one but the added touch of getting the first three points on the board made it special for the group this week. They believe in how we are trying to play and what we are trying to do and believe that what we are telling them will result in them winning games.”

I fully expect them to field a full side despite what the manager says, excluding the banned players of course. I have a feeling he is trying to "out Wellens" Richie.

There has to be mandatory weekly testing of all EFL squads, as in the Premier League, to avoid the season descending into chaos. The problem is EFL clubs can't afford it, esp in L1 and L2.

Burton manager expecting a tactical battle today.

https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/buxton-expecting-tactical-battle-brewers-4551447

Quote
Jake Buxton is expecting an interesting tactical battle with League One newcomers Swindon Town.

Burton Albion travel to play the Robins, who were declared League two champions when last season was curtailed with them ahead of Crewe Alexandra on goal difference with a game in hand. It was a successful first full season in charge for Richie Wellens, the former Blackpool, Leicester City and Doncaster Rovers midfielder.

He has seen a big turnover in players since promotion, not least losing leading scorer Eoin Doyle, but Buxton is in no doubt Wellens’ playing philosophy will not have changed - he describes it as unique. It is not unusual for teams to aim to pass  the ball out from the goalkeeper in the modern game but Swindon do it more than most.

“Richie Wellens played the right way as a player and his team are doing the same, from what we’ve seen,” said Buxton. “They have a style of play and a formation and the team will not be picked around whoever they sign, they will have to fit in with it. He has been working on it for a couple of years and they have won promotion with it.

“They’re very forward thinking and put a lot of players in high positions. They flood the top end of the pitch, building up from the goalkeeper They use the goalkeeper as something of an outfield player, they go back through him a lot. They do it a little bit more than others, so if we don’t get the pressing right, they can hurt us and play through us.

“If we are aggressive with the pressing and on the front foot, we have the chance to win the ball but if you go too far with that, you can leave yourself open at the back, so it will be a tactical battle. We have to try to dominate, to keep the ball as long as possible. We need to make sure we put them under pressure and get in and around them.”

Often, it can be difficult playing a newly-promoted team early in the season, as the momentum of their success is still high but Buxton feels the lack of supporters at games will nullify that a little.

“With them just having won promotion, I think it would have been a full house with their supporters right behind them,” said Buxton.

“They have been a big club, they still are a big club and any time you play Swindon away is going to be a challenge but we’re coming off the back of a win ourselves and they didn’t get the result they’d have wanted against Blackpool (Swindon lost 2-0) . It’s an opportunity for us to go there and put on a good performance.”

The Burton boss is sure his team will be buoyed by having picked up their first League win of the season last week at home to Accrington Stanley.

“The performance was important but getting the three points on the board was special for the group, so they can believe in how we’re trying to play, what we’re trying to do and that what I’m trying to tell them will win games,” he said.

Charles Vernam, out since the opening game of the season with a knee injury, has trained and may make the bench, depending on how he feels after training, but the game will come too early for injured duo Michael Bostwick and Neal Eardley. Goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara and defender John-Joe O’Toole both serve the last game of their suspensions tomorrow.

It  will only be the fifth time Swindon and Burton have met. They each won their home games 2-0 in the 2011-12 season in League Two but the Brewers won 1-0 in both fixtures in 2015-16 in League One, the season they were promoted to the Championship.

Meanwhile, Buxton says he has enjoyed getting out to scout at live matches again...

Jake Buxton relished going on his first live scouting mission of the season earlier this week, when he went to watch Everton and Leicester’s City’s development sides battle it out at Southport.

There were several players he was interested in taking a look at but necessity, because of a lengthening injury list, was why he had taken Jack Roles, from Tottenham Hotspur, and Indiana Vassilev, from Aston Villa, on loan last week without having had the chance to see as much of them as he would have preferred.

Their excellent references, gleaned face to face from manager Dean Smith and his assistant, John Terry, in Vassilev’s case, at the Villa game last week, went a long way to allaying any doubts.

As with so many other aspects of life, modern technology has changed the jobs of managers, scouts and agents a great deal. There are several scouting websites they all use and they can call up footage of virtually any player at any level that would interest them.

Buxton is not the sort of manager who will be tweeting his thoughts any time soon but he does use the websites.  That said, though, he thoroughly enjoyed his trip to Southport.

“It was good to get out there scouting properly, live, looking at players for the future,” he said.  “It’s OK speaking to someone on the phone but it’s only when you meet them in person that you can judge their character and it’s the same watching a football match.

“When the ball’s on the other side of the pitch to the player, you’re looking to see how they are. Are they walking, are they strolling? What happens when it goes wrong and it’s tough? Are they the type of characters to dig in and try to drag other players along with them?

“That’s what I’m looking at. Would the players on show be the right sort to join our group and make sure we push forward? It’s harder to judge traits on video. There’s nothing better than seeing it live and it’s something we’ve missed.  Me and the staff are getting out to watch games now and we’re not just building for this window, we’re looking to the next one as well.”

There will certainly be 2 distinctly differing styles of play on view today, lets hope they try and play football to match us which would suit us and would be there downfall.

I hear we have pretty much a full compliment of players to pick from today excluding Lyden, Iandolo and Conroy. All players close to fitness are fit enough for at least the bench, J Smith should be ready to return and Stevens blisters are managable.

Will be difficult to pick the best team with Grounds, Stevens and Donohue available.

I would like to see Pitman start but there is not much pace in Burtons back 4/5 so I wouldnt be surprised to see Tyler up front on his own again. I personally prefer a 4-4-2 but Wellens does plike his flexible 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation and I can't see him dropping DJ, Payne or J Smith to accomodate Pitman and Tyler.

I expect we will see Curran on the bench still as to fill the "home grown" player quota, something Wellens successfully negotiated with the EFL to give us a dispensation on last season.

I have a feeling the starting line up will be the same as last week.

Lyden back?

Personally think he’s a huge player and having him alongside Grant for as many games as possible is crucial. Then Matt Smith can play the Doughty role as an 8 slightly ahead of them

I am guessing its the intensity of training is much harder for the 1st team than the U23's its something a lot of players suffer in pre season where there is more training. I expect he didn't get as intensive a pre season as the rest of the players.

He must be wearing in new boots I would imagine too?

good recovery from caddis

Good through ball that wasnt going to run through to keeper, Caddis did well to cover back.

Competitive game this, Burton get the ball forward quickly and like to switch play.

We are being forced to hit long at the moment.

Payne and Matt Smith covering every inch of the pitch, Pitman is something very different to what we have had in a few years up front. A bit of a lump but with a good touch.

Jonny Smith not looking as good on the left as he does when playing as an inverted winger on the right. so far.

Fantastic first half. Almost Faultless.

Stevens is explosive. Payne so influential in the pockets. Caddis a real driving force. Both CBs getting fitter and stronger, and we even scored from a corner. Bit quieter down the left side but J Smith threatening in spurts.

Their goal's annoying though. Good finish out of nothing.

All positives against a pretty competitive Burton side. They're full of running, if not quality.

Well that was fun.  Burton have eaten their Wheatabix but have created a very open frenetic and unstructured game as a result, which has been behind our chances.  We are not several goals better than then, yet we could have had a couple more vs them only really having one other good chance.

Matt Smith is gorgeous.  I will do another Alzate here, that lad will have a good Premier League career.  There is a touch of Moncur about him but he probably sits a bit deeper.  He just wants the ball so he can play a touch perfect pass all the time but isn’t afraid to do some of the dirty work either.

Nothing that’s meant we’ve conceded. A few of our players have been caught in possession or misplaced a pass today. None of them are being questioned.

Being caught in possession two feet from the goal is quite a lot more dangerous, to be fair. But again, no need to panic with him, his distribution generally looks good.

Anyone that ever moans about our use of loans going forward needs to have a word with themselves, today is perfect in showing why we do it, we'd never get the quality of these loan players on permanent deals.

Same even goes for the keeper but he's becoming this seasons scapegoat and it's becoming fashionable for some to constantly bash him.

Then just like with Benda they can claim they always said he was quality... 3-1 up at half time and there was still plenty choosing to focus on the keeper, I just don't get it!

I'll never scapegoat any player, but I will remark on a player that's not at the top of his game. He's young and he's not a liability, but he makes a few positioning errors and poor touches. I'm sure he'll grow into his game, but he provides the odd nervous moment.

Didn't look like we quite knew what formation we were playing there after the sub. Fryers lost the man, Kovar no chance of making a save (could have come for the cross, as others have said)

We did last season as well, it's the compromise we make to play ball players at the back. Very few teams in the league below had the quality to take advantage of it though.

Good win and that was with us running on fumes at the end a bit.  Some legs will be hurting tonight but more minutes in them to build up our fitness.  Pitman could have done with an electric wheelchair by full time I think.  Several players still getting used to the team as well, plenty to be cheerful about in terms of us still having room for improvement.

I think thats a bit unfair as with 10 mins to go....

Pitman chases the ball down in the corner, wins it and cuts inside and shoots but its too near the keeper.

He still had the beating of the defender after 80 odd mins.

I think that is the most 'clinical' I have seen Town in a while, with several very good finishes.

Midfield battled well. Matt Smith seems to go from pedestrian to deciding he wants to win the game on his own in little spurts.

We are still a bit suspect in defence and Kovar doesn't give me confidence. He doesn't command his area that well and doesn't look as if he is going to pull of any saves. Very calm and assured with the ball at his feet and looks as cool as a cucumber.

Donahue looked lost when he came on. Don't think Hunt knew were he was playing, which helped contribute to their second goal. (When the ball is in the net, Hunt visibly chastised Donahue)

Pitman lolloped around the field all game, but when the ball comes to him, he certainly know what to do with it. Also, lots of little flick headers.

that was a tighter match than the scoreline reflects imo.

we took our chances very well and o scored the vital forth that killed Burton

yet there is stuff to work on. 4-2 and they hit the post. enough said.

shame Baudry is injured again.

But DJ still to come back in, Tyler Smith unlucky not to play today. the attack is looking good but maybe a striker short

Absolutely, I see short glimpses but then he does something badly that should be fairly simple for a Man Utd player.

Hes young but he doesnt command his area and his shot stopping is not up to our level from what I have seen.

Yes he can get better, benda didn't look that good in his first few games though and he came on well so no writing off from me yet either.

7 goals in two home games for Town...The County Ground was far too easy for away teams to visit before last season with teams taking what they wanted without much effort. Thankfully that seems to have been well and truly sorted out.

We seem to have plenty of options going forward now when you think DJ wasnt even in the squad today.

Could be another fun season, maybe another successful one if we can sort out the leaks defensively.

Nice to see Pitman off the mark.

Enjoyed that. The front three is very different to last year, but might be as effective. Pitman doesn’t have Doyle’s movement, but he is strong, and seems to still have the goalscoring instinct. His finish was very classy. Payne reminds me a (little) bit of Sammy Igoe when he drifted into the middle. Just a nuisance and uses the ball well. Stevens will be an asset and Jonny Smith will score and create. Things clearly have to improve at the back - but give Kovar time. I can’t disagree with the criticisms, but let’s not jump on the back of a 20 year old playing his first few games of professional football. I’m sure he’ll sharpen up with some help from Mildenhall and maybe some pressure from Joe Fryer (who I’ve not seen play). Next....!

Watching their first goal back, I think Kovar thinks it’s going wide. He’s not at full stretch, and is withdrawing his hands.

The keeper is seeing a lot more of the ball this season than last season as we are playing better teams so makes the odds of mistakes higher. There were matches last season where Benda basically had to do nothing. Kovar needs to be allowed a good run of games so that he gets used to playing at this level and integrated into the squad. No idea what kind of personality he has whether shy or confident but that will play a part in how quickly he settles. Benda always came across as ultra confident and Grant took him under his wing so that helped him settle quickly.

Title: Re: Swindon v Burton pre match chat and matchday thread
Post by: Boeta on Saturday, September 26, 2020, 20:32:20
Benda had some absolute howlers in his early days, but was also commanding at the same time. Will be interesting to see what Kovar is like after 10 games

Matt Smith is a quality player, a great Doughty replacement.

Wonder if Wellens will change the team shape or personell for away games to tighten up the midfield without the ball. Interesting to see Donohue come on in midfield (which is where he mostly played for Portsmouth I think)

Not the toughest of starts but 6 from 9 is more than adequate. Got a similar feel to the beginning of last season with Wellens moulding a team on the hoof, so to speak. I don’t think more than 5 players yesterday had played together over a period of games - Smith, Smith, Stevens, Pitman, Kovar and Payne are all new to each other as well as last season’s regulars.

Seem to have good options off the bench, too. Who would drop out to accommodate DJ and Lyden?

Still look vulnerable at the back, though, and revert back to a bit of piss and panic mode.

Away to Posh next. Be over the moon to get something out of that. They pissed all over Sunderland yesterday but lost.

Solid winger, tracks back and wins the ball, he did for his goal he tackled the defender and took his goal well too. Looked dangerous and has lots of pace, him and Jonny Smith look a great pair of players and look an upgrade on last season.

Stevens is still raw and gives the ball away cheaply a few times but for his debut he was excellent and will build on that performance.

From the Posh forum
Quote
Another loss and, apart from a couple of worldies last week in injury time, it doesn't look good.....

Not sure that was a penalty but it my was a poor challenge from Taylor who has looked a bit non-league all game. We’ve had a couple of bursts but Szmodics and JCH look like a couple of free transfers and not expensive signings...Szmodics now coming off....is Maddison still. Available because we are missing some creativity

We lost. It didn't look good. Sunderland didn't look too good either.
I expected a tough game. A draw would have been a fair result.

Yep, 3 games in and we can all see it’s going wrong.
We should sack Fergie, re-sign Maddison and bring back Steve Evans, there’s no other way we’re going up this season.

What a load of rubbish has been posted today. Posh were the better team, apart from towards the end of the first half and at the start of the second half. All teams go through all matches when they have their little purple patches. We will play a lot worse and still beat teams in this division.

And from the Posh forum a view of next weeks fixture...
Quote
Posh are favourites with the bookies to win this game.
I reckon we'll give them a hiding.

And from the not very active Burton forum on yesterday...

Quote
Not the best performance today

I didn’t watch i-Follow as I refuse to give money to Swindon. Listened on radio. Sounded like their 3 first-half goals were all very basic errors. We won the rest of the game.

I thought we were in with a chance once Quinn’s volley went in and it sounded like it was all Burton until their 4th was scored on what sounded like against the run of play.

I just watched the goals again and I honestly think his positioning is woeful he was caught in 2 minds whether to come for the cross or not, but its not just him it should have been defended better Fryers who was a long way from his man who actually headed it in and Hunt is nowhere near anyone as the scorer ghosts in behind him.

“I didn’t watch i-Follow as I refuse to give money to Swindon. Listened on radio. Sounded like their 3 first-half goals were all very basic errors.”

Some football fans really are cretins aren’t they? Ignoring the seeming irrationality of not giving any money to Swindon (not really sure why he has an issue but hey ho) but it’s highly unlikely Burton had more than 500 subscribers to the Burton Ifollow and his money wouldn’t have gone to us anyway.

I suppose he didn’t spend £10 to watch his team chase us around the pitch for 90 minutes and lose the game so maybe he/she has the last laugh!

agree with above, cool finish goal and a few nice touches but mainly steady. first game and two training sessions not bad at all.

just watched the goals again and still think it's harsh to blame Kovar for the second. But he's yet to fill me with confidence.  early days

Obviously this is just opinion but I think he should have (tried to) claim that cross. Akins was only about 4 yards out when he headed in. Sorry for the Benda comparison but I’m sure he would have claimed that easily.

I think it's harsh to blame the second on him, but...

Did anybody else notice Baudry after it went in, with a look toward Kovac? There might have been nothing in it, but the body language seemed to be blaming him.

They seem to be a very well run club. When we played them a few seasons back in league 2 I spent pre-game in the glue pot in the sun chatting to their fans and they all seemed very decent. No big time Charlie’s, they were just loving the fact they were doing so well in the league.

My cousin is a season ticket holder there, he is a massive Derby fan and lives in Burton but he feels more of a part at a friendly family club than he did at Derby. He still supports both teams but feels Burton appreciate him more as a fan.

He said we deserved to win yesterday and was impressed by our passing and pace and gracious in defeat.

That’s fair enough PV. I didn’t think Burton were that bad a side. They pressed well and passed it around also but we had more match winners on the pitch in my eyes.

Agreed we'll run and no big time Charlie's and even more impressive is Burton is only about the same distance from Derby as Swindon to lechlade and were able to compete in the championship and now league one

I think the big problem with the 2nd, in so far as Kovar goes, is the indecision, it makes it look like an error, perhaps it was, perhaps it wasn't but once a keeper starts to go he should go all the way, likewise if he starts to stay he should continue to stay.  I don't think he could have dealt with it either way personally but changing his mind doesn't help him.

The constantly changing CB pairing in front of him can't be ideal at this stage of his career, he hasn't got the experience to be able to adapt to that yet, hopefully Baudry and Fryers, in the absence of Conroy can stay fit for a run of games and an understanding can be built.

Burton had no game winners in the side, no "spark" players like DJ/Payne/J Smith/Stevens that was the big difference, they look a bang average L1 side, they can play a bit but have one style that they cannot change. I don't think they will be relegated or promoted this season.

Absolutely, in his previous games Kovar has come out and claimed crosses like that, he is capable of it, hes a tall lad but he stepped backwards instead of coming out, I think the ball was a lot closer to him than he thought at the time so was caught between coming for it and trying to save the outcome, as it turned out he did neither.

Against Blackpool he took 2 similar crosses with ease but yesterday he dithered and chose unwisely.

He is better than that.

I’m sure he’s also aware that a number of our fuckwit fans have selected him as this seasons scapegoat choosing to go after him rather than being happy about wins, that can’t help a young keepers confidence. People just need to enjoy the fact we’ve clearly got a competitive squad and stop trying to find faults. If he doesn’t come good he’ll get replaced if he does then it’s all good, either way we’ll be just fine.

He's obviously a talented goalkeeper or he wouldn't be at United but as in life confidence is everything and will need coaching to improve his positional play plus mental strength to deal with any criticism

That Burton Fan again:  "I didn’t watch i-Follow ....... Listened on radio. Sounded like their 3 first-half goals were all very basic errors. We won the rest of the game."

A touch of the Kingston Robin from yesteryear, who used to give forthright (and, for that matter, far more detailed) opinions on STFCs performances he'd not witnessed.

I missed yesterday unfortunately but I wonder if the first goal took a slight deflection taking it just inside rather than just outside the post?

From the video highlights (here I go myself now  ;D), Kovar seems to be a little hesitant which is leaving him a little in no man's land.  I'd like to see him become more assertive and apply his own judgement, more willing to risk mistakes.

If that happens, I see no reason why there shouldn't be a very decent keeper in him;  he's class with the ball at his feet.

Agree with this completely. A few people had Fryers down as man of the match but he's made a fundamental error that cost us a goal, and as good as his other play was, he has to be better than that

My input re goalie Smith. It is just the one thing that he needs to sort out and that’s his positioning with regard to his goal. Burton’s first goal I’m sure he purposely didn’t go full stretch - in fact, it looked like he retracted his arms - cos he thought the shot wasn’t on target and he did not want to give away a corner.

The alternative is a journeyman keeper who has no skill with the ball at his feet and can only lump it forward. And that ain’t for us.

He’ll come good. I’m sure of it.

As others have said, it's a confidence thing. Like any player. If a striker doesn't score in say 3 games running, his confidence will start to drop. Do you drop that player?

Get a few clean sheets under his belt, and all will grow. He's young and first season in first team football. He'll be fine.

One more post from a Burton fan on their forum.
Quote
Yes we did look very open at the back against a very average Swindon side. By half time we had lost a platform on which to build any sort of result, it was game over really. We did finish the stronger side.

Nice to know we are average, any average team that can score 4 goals in a game must be doing something a bit better than average surely?

Saying that a lot of teams that we beat early season last year were saying the same, we are an average team that managed to score some goals and win games.

By comparsion, after 4 league games and a league cup tie we were W2 D1 L1 F6 A4 and had lost in the LC letting in 3.

This season after 3 we have W2 D0 L1 - F7 A5 and lost in the LC letting in 3.

Quite comparable so far.

An intricate, technical style of play is always likely to take longer to bed in.

But there was nothing 'average' about us going forward, although more work needs to be done defensively.

Agree.  I do get the feeling though that not too many teams fans above lge 2 actually realise what a good job that Wellens has been doing with us, mainly because if you are not in lge 2 you don't tend to take too much notice of it.  I personally would like it to stay that way for as long as possible.

tbh if the danger is other clubs noticing what a good job Wellens is doing and pinching him, they're not relying on the EFL show for their scouting/recruitment

As you have bought up cakes, I am not sure where all the worries about Pitman being Lardy came from, he seems reasonably mobile.

However, he has the hairiest arms I think I have ever seen on a player, bet he has got a proper rug on his back as well!

Lovely nonchalant finish though.

Genoa I think he fitted in really well and played a decent game, he has more pace than he looks at times and some of his touches were sublime, he seems more of a bully and better in the air than Doyle.

I would like to see him in a front 2 with Tyler alongside of him but there is no player he could actually drop to accomodate him as both wingers and Payne made things happen in our attack.

I salute your work sir!

The funny thing when he scored is that when the ball broke to the R/H side of the box and the camera panned forward we had three midfielders breaking into the box ahead of our striker, yet he was still in the right place to score which I think shows his class and experience!

I liked him, he covered many points very well . I said how well we pressed in the first half, with two or three of ours against their player with the ball, which stopped them playing through us. Similar to against Rochdale, but not against Blackpool. Is this how we prefer to play?

Answer, something like, we are a small stature team, and have to make up for this by harassing opponents with our speed and skill. We failed to do this against Blackpool, and yes it's how I see it going this season.

I thought we were in with a chance once Quinn’s volley went in and it sounded like it was all Burton until their 4th was scored on what sounded like against the run of play.

Well it appears that Burtons manager didn't agree with these posters.
