Why are their first team taking on our u23’s? They must be desperate for friendly fixtures.

Well let’s face it, who wants to go to Swindon?
It’s full of inbreds and roundabouts!

Apparently it is someone who definately looks like him, and definately not Baxter.

Most of the Rovers fans I have come across whist living in Bristol have been dicks. City fans do seem to have a bit more intelligence and less thug life.

Rovers fans are one dimensional and generally thick.
Carrot crunchers. The irony of the inbred comments too. I suppose the angst is from being City's strange and awkward little sister  :)

I know a fair few Rovers fans and in general they know far less about football in general than the many City fans that I know.

And they have such a massive chip on their shoulder about their far bigger neighbours.

Can’t see us being interested in him other than maybe back up, was at Exeter last season but didn’t play and both their keepers were ropey as.

I believe Odimayo and Reeves are the only trialists playing from the Nuneaton game.

Might be saving some for Coventry. I'm sure Talk of the Town will solve some of it.

Jared Thompson, was mentioned earlier and we think he played the first 45 tonight. Also named now is Tyrell Waite a 26 year old forward who seems to be attached to Tamworth, and played the second 45.

So, Wellens said Baxter would play tonight.

Now he’s got supposed interest from Birmingham and Derby he doesnt play?

Have Chelsea taken us for a ride here?

Thompson is a free agent, didn’t get a game in a short spell at Exeter and never played a league game or non league other than a spell at Chippenham. Sounds like a bit of a favour rather than what we need unless he’ll be a cheap backup.

Someone like Steve Hale might have recommended him.

Town might have needed a local goalkeeper at short notice (although Matthews could have played the 90).

We might be looking for a younger GK as back-up.

Who knows? Not I.

Any idea what the Rovers team was? They seem very reluctant to even confirm a game actually took place, let alone the score, team etc.

Seems unlikely with such a short pre season a club would use a friendly fixture just for U23s.

Wellens has stated that Town can't play local Non-League teams because they hadn't been tested so, with that in mind, to play a pro U23 side instead makes sense.

That seems odd, up here for instance Workington played a friendly away at Penrith at the weekend, in Eden where new lock down is being threatened, cannot imagine Penrith who are in Northern League D1 are getting tested rigorously, likewise why was Nuneaton acceptable?

Nuneaton had been tested.

I don't know. Maybe because our more local and COVID-19 tested sides have their pre-season schedules in place? Supermarine published their pre-season schedule a good while back. Non-League clubs don't *need* Swindon Town at the moment because it's not going to generate money.

There has been a feeling of rushing a schedule through which is understandable.

Not sure there's much need to dwell on why we're playing an U23s side during early Pre-Season.

It was their U23’s, no first team players.
My Rovers supporting mate said they played 6 trialists during the match with a couple of players with some experience but most were younger players.

We, by comparison, played 4 trialists + Matthews, Reid, Giamattei, Haines, McGilp, Twine all who are all U23 players and probably add Iandolo to that list too.

Quite. There does seem to be a feel of perhaps over-examining what's essentially a runout for fitness and a chance to look at some trialists. Pleased to see Scott Twine of Scott Twine Day fame scored though.

Wellens said he wanted the first couple of matches to be ones that we could basically walk through have a bit of possession and get some minutes into players legs without being pressured or closed down, who the opposition were is largely immaterial.  We'll now step it up against Coventry on Saturday I'd imagine.

Absolutely, and rightly so, start with easier teams like Nuneaton and Bristol Rovers before we play better teams like Coventy.

He's been told he will be allowed to leave either on loan or permanently, but not actually released per se

And then said he was the best player on the pitch for 15 mins of the second half so it must have worked.
