Title: Next season (whenever it may take place)
Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, 10:31:34
Well as we have finally been confirmed as promoted to L1 I was looking at the make up of that division for next season.

As Southend, Bolton and Tranmere were relegated to L2.

Currently in L1 for next season are -

Peterborough
Sunderland
Doncaster
Gillingham
Ipswich
Burton
Blackpool
Bristol R
Shrewsbury
Lincoln
Accrington
Rochdale
MKD
Wimbledon
Swindon
Crewe
Plymouth

In the L2 play offs we have -
Cheltenham v Northampton
Exeter v Colchester

So we will be joined by 1 of those 1, my preference would be Exeter followed by Northampton with Colchester 3rd preferred choice and the perenial Swindon beaters 'Numb easily my last choice.

In L1 we will be joined by 3 of these 4 play off teams -
Wycombe v Fleetwood
Oxford v Pompey

Again an easy choice, for geographical and rivalry reasons I would prefer Fleetwood to gain promotion so we can play the other teams, all being within 80 miles of Swindon.

Heart says Fleetwood 1st, Pompey 2nd, Wycombe 3rd and Oxford 4th choice for promotion. Head says otherwise.

As for the 3 relegation places from the Championship, that league is still wide open with just 8 points between Stoke, Huddersfield, Middlesborough, Wigan, Hull, Charlton, Luton and Barnsley. With even the possibility that Reading, Birmingham and Wednesday still just 6 points above that current Stoke position.

Will be an interesting end to the season with several matches affecting our league make up for next season. When it evenytually takes place of course.

Think the salary cap means all bets are off next year on who’s good and who’s not, assuming it’s fairly straightforward.

Some interesting new northern grounds there for me, albeit not sure what if any games will be allowing attendance.

Can you imagine Fleetwood Town in the Championship? Madness.

Don't they have a pretty wealthy backer who has invested hugely in the playing budget?

Aye Andy Pilley, made his cash in utilities, built the stand and has his company offices in there as well. Big Tory, threatened o take his ball home if people voted Labour in the last election, which the voters of Fleetwood duly did!

Wimbledon's new stadium is due to open October 25th. If, and it's a big if as to when we can start going to matches again, i would like to pay a visit to their new ground.

Anything has to be better than Kingstonian....although the Robert peel was rather good.

Bit pleased with himself isn't he?

"People who have worked with Andy Pilley previously, know of his unselfish, kind and giving nature. So much so, that they have chosen to leave many positive comments."
