Title: Stratton Bank
Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Sunday, February 2, 2020, 10:08:35
With 11,000 homes turning up yesterday it proves if the club are successful we have the fanbase to sell out the county ground. As the season draws to a close and no big away allocation expected it would be nice if the club could open up the Stratton bank in the remaining seven fixtures for home fans rather leaving it closed and restricting the crowds

Might be needed last game, not worth the cost until then.

Not much chance unless the other 3 stands sell out, due to stewarding costs and other overheads. This is why the TE side of the Arkell's has been closed all season.

Any idea what the cost would be if there is demand during the week to open

Stewards
Food van
Portaloos
Only worth it if rest of ground sold out

Depending on results of course you can see there being demand with a few games to go. Moving forward maybe the club should put seats back in the corner and let home fans access the shrivenham road turnstiles and put a divide between any away fans just like Oxford do

Am not sure those turnstiles or anything in that corner are in working condition.
Low in priority for the club to spend on.
Depends on future plans I guess whether just a roof added or a new stand. If it's just a roof then the entrance on shrivvy road will need sorting out plus the facilities. Save hiring them in.

Good points and no doubts are regularly discussed

Vaguely recall some work being started to get those facilities back working around 4 or 5 years ago. May have been the trust.
 :hmmm:

I definitely think yesterday's crowd caught everybody out and one no one would have predicted

Not sure what came of it, there is only so far a turd can be poliched, even with hundreds and thousands.

Wow great link and thanks for posting as I've never seen those photos before. It just goes to show how bad parts of the stadium have got and quite sad to see

I sort of remember when all the blockwork on the corner was done... about 1963. There was also a toilet, which could be used by those in the seats above the Shrivenham Road terrace... you had to leave the stand by the stairs at the back and go to the corner.

I'm not suire anything much has happened there since... also no idea when the last click of the Shrivenham Road turnstile may have been.

Presumably the Leeds home game in the 1993/94 PL season as the DRS was built that summer.

The DRS has now been open for 25 years which is now older than the Arkells stand was it 1994 when the DRS was built.

That corner never really recovered from when the Spurs fans set fire to the tea bar in 1980   >:(
