 TBF.... that's easy.

Marseille is an odd one though as I thought the'd been stripped of their win because of Tapie, but they still crop up in lists like this. Has it changed again?

Answering my own question, apparently they were never stripped of the title.... I must have imagined that.

I got full marks.

I thought Marseille were stripped of everything *but* the European Cup. Not 100% on that.

More fun.... without recourse to google, name the 19 clubs who've reached a final but never won.

Good question. Name the 4 cities to have had finalists is an old chestnut.... everybody gets 3 the 4th more difficult.

So those 4, and I'll not name until the first part is done if anybody wants a crack at it.   Manchester must be a 5th by now, whcih leaves 5.

I'l punt Turin, Rome, Moscow, Athens, Glasgow

Good try. Not Athens or Moscow. Only one Italian city and you’ve not mentioned it. There are only two countries which have 2 cities on the list. England and one other surprising one.

Panathinaikos in the 80’s and 90’s but not enough to mean two teams from one city.

Let's firm this up a bit... the 4 2 city finalists .... London, Milan, Madrid, Belgrade,  then Manchester and Glasgow.  So 4 to get?

Benfica (obv) and (possibly) Sporting.  Just a guess for a quiz.  Could Google but we have Reg... ;)

It's possible, I'm puzzling on the Italian city, which isn't Rome or Turin to join Milan.   Could possibly be Genoa, but although Samp have done a final, can never rememeber Genoa being in a semi.  I'm ruling out Verona, as don't either Hellas or the Flying Donkeys.

I suppose the surprise might be Praha, my boys went to see Slavia recently. A semi appearnace doubtful, but perhaps the legendary Dukla might have, and still leaves Sparta.  Talking of Spartas, maybe Sparta Rotterdam, as Feyenoord are a winner.

I’m getting confused myself now! So here’s what we seem to have got so far, in order of when cities achieved the feat of having had two semi finalists.
1. Madrid (Real, Athletico)
2. Milan (A.C, Inter)
3. ?
4. Glasgow (Celtic, Rangers)
5. ?
6. ?
7. ?
8. Prague (Dukla, Sparta)
9. London (Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal)
10. Manchester (Untd, City)

Incidentally, there isn’t another Italian city.

I initially thought Istanbul but wasn't sure. However I used to spend some time in Switzerland with a friend so I'm plumping for Zurich (Grasshoppers & FC)

Both Malpas and Sturrock were in the DU side that season, so would have played unless injured.

Pretty staggering that a team like Dundee United would get to the semis of a European Competition, Dundee even more so! Dundee isn’t exactly a big city either.

Yes, but made it more interesting.  Dundee is not only famous for cake but marmalade, never been a great fan.

However am grateful to the Keiller family, for producing the wealth that allowed Alexander to buy Avebury and preserve (I miss Nev) what's left.
