Title: BRovers v STFC Winky Wanky Cup
Post by: The Artist Formerly Known as Audrey on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, 16:35:10
Not much interest in this one. There’s not even an indication on the club’s Twitter that there is even a game on!

I’ll give it a go seeing as it’s free. Surely Sidi will get a run out tonight - never known a player take so long to get fit.

Kurt Hammonds was seemingly injured for about 3 years.
He probably spent most of that time in the gym adding upper body muscle.

Can’t wait to see Woolery/Twine up front.

3 times he done his ACL whilst with us. I watched him play a few months ago for Warminster, it was sad to watch to be honest. He could have been a superb player.

Due to my work shifts at the time I saw a lot of that youth team.
I’m really not sure I ever saw Hammonds play (in theory I must have done at some point)
He was always there with the lads but obviously injured. Every time I did see him his upper body looked more muscular - I expect by the time he got over his injuries he was too bulky to play football.
I have no idea what he did post Swindon Town but I’d have put my money on PT / bodybuilder !!

A quick google search brings up Hammonds fitted furniture first.

Further down his (8 years out of date) LinkedIn.
Think he may have lied a bit on it

If we can win this then it could turn our whole season around.

Let's hope the lads are really up for it.

These have just become reserve games but with the added distraction that your BBC alerts still work.

We should have Haines, McGilp etc back to play. The ginger (not Doyle) should also get a go.

Title: Re: BRovers v STFC Winky Wanky Cup
Post by: BambooToTheFuture on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, 17:27:21
Yep it's a reserve team cup comp. It's important for those youngsters that play to maybe give some form of head turning to the management as it could be a route into the first team. Difficult to a degree but this is their opportunity to impress, in a semi competitive nature, they should be busting a gut to be noticed.

Bradford at home 1988 - Winning 3-0 when the game was abandoned due to fog.

(In the rearranged fixture we were robbed with a 2-2 draw!)

Yeah, I felt better after delivering a cheerful V's up to the Bradford fans when trudging off the Stratton Bank at the end of the 2-2.

They waved back.

As far as I can tell May has a great shot and not a lot else.  Parsons does indeed look lively, which you should expect really, he's had a few good touches and looks positive,

Sanokho looks like he has something, very similar style to TD but hopefully being younger will get better with fitness.

2 subs made, our 2, none for them.

Siddy, hmmm, worth involving in training.
May, must remember to get the return label on that one.
Twine, advise Audrey on thetownend.com to offer some sort of testicle related bet if this player ever makes it in the game
Must get milk and bread on the way home

In fairness he’s come in on a short term deal, probably on a low wage - easily played well enough to be considered our first choice left back. Certainly think he’d be well within his rights to ask for a bit more money.

Also a mention for the BRovers groundsman. Pitch played very well in atrocious conditions.

Benda for LMc was about marginal improvement. Look at our form since, and how much better Benda is with the ball at his feet.

He also makes saves LMC doesn't get near imo. LMc better on crosses, but little else.

As far as on the pitch goes, get him signed up for to the end of next season.

Sidy is a big old lump, he ran around a lot and got forward often. Hes built like Toums who also played ok tbh. Sidys first touch is not bad and he has a bit of pace but his tackling is poor at times. He was pretty decent and looks better that May imo.

Post by: Peter Venkman on Thursday, November 14, 2019, 09:57:58
I would send May back in January for sure. Ironically May played his best game for us yesterday but he was still poor to average at best. Sidy looks to the right build and could well improve a lot. He showed promise. Broadbent looked getting back to where he was last season and Zakuani looked pretty assured against a very experienced Rovers forward line. LMC looked pretty good too.

Iandolo should have scored with a great chance from about 8 yards with just the keeper to beat, should have done better.

Parson and Twine both looked eager and ran around a lot but both are too lightweight and lacking a final ball. Holland put himself about a fair bit for the last 10 mins or so and reminded me of Mullins.

Zakuani is the type of CB we need playing against the hoofing sides.

I still can’t see how we can offload Dave in Jan seeing as he can’t be match fit. IfGrant gets recalled we might need him. I don’t mind Wellens not seeing him as a starter but don’t understand why he has been frozen out.

Will signing Donohue eat into the Doyle/Grant fund?

I like the sound of that.

Just had a look at the Gas forum and they cannot wait to see the back of Bennett.

He was poor last night, tbf. If that’s any indication to his general performances I’m not surprised they want rid.

Bit of a Doyle-esque situation. Certainly shows Wellens in a good light when he can get a tune out of players stagnating elsewhere.

Parson and Twine both looked eager and ran around a lot but both are too lightweight and lacking a final ball.
Tbf, Parsons is a 1st year scholar I think, so still only 16/17, he's always going to look a little slighter than the 1st team squad players, esp up against established L1 players. Wellens seemed pleased with him judging by his comments in the Adver

Dunno, sounds more like Wellens on the wind-up tbh, having some not so sly digs at Coughlan

We have quite a few stagnant players on our own books though!
