Title: The new season ticket/debit card, y'all
Post by: herthab on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, 09:01:47
The new season tickets. I think you can link them to your debit card and then use them in the same way; to purchase goods, or withdraw cash from ATM's, but there's fees involved, so why would you?

Maybe there's incentives for using them as debit cards in the club shop, like discounts etc?

Unless there is %cashback or discounts as Paul says.

Some of the fees are refunded as 'STFC Cash'

Mine arrived today.  I didn't really want another Mastercard (even as an 'incentive' to get 10% off purchases in the club shop). Think it's a bit cheeky.

Have read the blurb a couple of times and am assuming that it will let me through the turnstiles even if I choose not to activate it.

Note for a Mod - This topic may need it's own thread.

Of course you will. Enforced a activation would be illegal

Agree, can this be spun off? Not least because it seems to be concerning unnecessary (IMO) concern

TLDR: It's a payment card, not a credit card
You don't have to use or even activate the payments part to still use it as a season ticket
If you do make payments with it, you get loyalty points ("Club Cash") that can be used for money off in the club shop

Hahahah. Fuck off

There is a nominal 15p transaction charge for all transactions made using a Town Pay card plus a 0.75% value fee calculated on the total value of the transaction.

Which, tbf, does get added to the "Club Cash" points. So I guess if you're dead keen on getting discount points to use in the club shop, that might be a worthwhile proposition for you. Otherwise, as you so eloquently put it, fuck off.

Can't see this being a success tbh and the way it's been launched seems to have caused unnecessary suspicion and alarm. Loads of people seem to think they've been duped into signing up for a credit card.

Good idea, badly communicated

Opens up another revenue stream (assuming they’ll get a cut of any earnings the issuer makes on transactions), albeit a limited one given size of fan base and likely take up

Essentially “apple-paying” a season ticket

It was more of a personal opinion given how much I use my debit card these days, even for small purchases. Those 15p levies soon add up.

Anyway as you say, clunky implementation but its optional and thus can be ignored

God yes, it's not going to be an everyday replacement for your standard debit card, 15p plus %age transaction value on a cup of coffee would be quite a surcharge. I'm most likely to use it to pay for stuff in the club shop, that has a pleasing circularity to it.

ah, but do you get 'double bubble' on that, i.e. normal ST club cash and debit card club cash...

probably.

Interesting Typo in the FAQ's

"Enter your username and password that you created for Mastercard SecureCode on your QPR Pay card and click submit"

 :D :D :D

The reaction to this has been so typically STFC.

The happy clappers:
"Great! A clever way to bring more money into the club, I can't wait to get the discount on items in the club shop"

The whingers (sponsored by the facebook group):
"I did NOT order a credit card! This is fraud! The transaction fees will go straight to his pocket!!! Power is corrupt!!! Power out!!!!"

General Twitter reaction
"Why havent we signed a striker"
"I haven't been for years I don't enjoy it anymore"
"I havent been for MORE years becasue I dont enjoy it EVEN MORE than you don't enjoy it"
"I haven't been for 30 years"
"I've never been"
"#AnnounceSanokho"

the cosmic ballet goes on

There will come a time when you are very close to not bothering for a while, nearly everyone loses the will with the club for a year or so at some point.

Indeed.

Mine was between 1998 and 2000 when Steve Muckmahon was in charge, I lost all affinity with the club, I stopped working at the club in 98 and couldn't even be bothered to check for the results. I was early 30's and before then I hadn't missed a home game since 1978.

Sometimes love comes back and sometimes it doesn't.

Just wait until you all find out it has an RFID chip embedded in it and they can track your every move.

kind of a moot point, but I assume the card issue doesn't get your personal details until you activate it.

moot because gawd knows how many companies already have them.

Your STFC cash amount gets wiped off at the end of the season (which they fail to mention)

That's always been the case with the "points" (or whatever they were called) that gave ST holders a discount in the club shop for future purchases every time you bought something in the club shop. As this "STFC cash" is just a new name for that scheme, hardly a surprise it should walk in the same way

Really?  I’m sure I’ve used points towards my son’s new shirt in the summer before?

Can STFC cash be put towards a season ticket when they go on sale? It’s the only reason I can think of to use the card as a saving scheme towards a season ticket when they go on sale next year

Maybe they get wiped off at start of new season rather than end of old or maybe you got lucky? I know I've been told they get wiped off, at least since they introduced the loyalty points via the ticket booking website anyway.

Don't think so - it says it can be used to buy home league tickets, which isn't much use to season ticket holders.

A couple of years back on the last game of the season I was refused to use my points as it was classed end of the season and no longer valid. (I think it was the last year they had a lady manager (Sarah?) running the shop) She wouldn't even check for me.

Now the workers are more willing to check and allow you to use the points until they are electronically removed. (probably end of may?)

Still need to be more clear about the deadline.

Probably mean Clare Scarth, she was proper miserable and ironically was the other half of the notorious Cheltenham town fan on the FB group hence how he claims to know everything.
