Title: The Town End
Post by: stfcjack on Thursday, June 13, 2019, 09:23:34
So I'm a relatively young Town fan with my first season being 03/04 attending a handful of games and then being ever present since. From what I remember around those years and a good few years after that was a near on full, noisy Townend each week. Now I'm not sure if that's just my young mind playing tricks on me but upon viewing clips from that era it seems to support my memory. So does anyone know what happened? We only see a full Townend on a handful of occasions these days usually exclusively for 'big' games, was there some kind of initiatives back then or is it just a general shift in attitudes of attending football now days? Would be interested to hear peoples take on it.

It's because we haven't got an experienced right back

It's because of Lee Power and his cunning master plan.

Its because we released the best prodigy we had in years, Harry Agombar.

I think its because we don't have a 20 goal striker.

The football's been consistently shite for a few years, albeit with the occasional bright spell.

A prolonged spell of decent football and success will bring people back. It won't happen overnight, though.

the real reason is the lack of bowling alley in the town end.

The view is shite. I preferred it when people congregated at the Bank corner of the DRS when away fans were in there.

The Millwall Cup game with ‘that’ Fjortoft goal was a cracker.

I always preferred being near the away enclosure when it was the shrivvy

The atmosphere died for whatever reason, and that meant there was no real point going in there any more. I had trouble with the stewards in there about 2006 and haven't been back in since. If it could still bring the noise I might have gone back, otherwise I'd rather a decent view.

If you want to see what the stand looked like 50+ years ago, take a look at this.  (Basically the same as now, minus the seats.)  07:30 onwards.
