Title: Your personal Town record this season
Post by: sir windon on Sunday, May 5, 2019, 09:59:14
No judgements. We all have our reasons/ personal circumstances/ right to be there or not. But how did the Town react to you being in attendance? Were you a lucky mascot or an albatross?!
I clocked up approx 2600 miles on round trips and was lucky enough not to see us lose.
P 11 W 5 D 6 L 0 F 15 A 7 Pts 21 (not actually 21 pts as one was a cup game).

P5 W1 D1 L3   First time I’d seen us win at Notts Co but last weeks game at Cheltenham was a particularly crap day, drove 183 miles after working for three hours to watch a load of players I hope I don’t have to watch again

P4 W0 D3 L1 all over the Xmas and New Year period. 1 goal scored, 3 against.
Good away performances away at Northampton and Mansfield, awful at home to Cheltenham and, after a bright start, shite at home to Exeter.

The highlight (!)......sat behind Football Phil, at Mansfield, who informed me every 3 or 4 minutes that the only way we were going to win was by getting it down and playing football. And from about 20 minutes of the second half onwards it was apparently a good time to bring McGlashan (I think) on. He never came on.....which is, presumably, why we didn't score.

All the home games except Crawley and Exeter for me. I don’t do away games as I find some Town fans obnoxious to be around at those.

A mixed bag this year, unfortunately more bad than good. But I enjoyed it more than last season strangely.

Lost 1!

Only got to the Exeter home game when back in the UK over Christmas.  It was my sons first Swindon game, although he has been to three Atlanta Utd games.  I don't think Swindon won him over if I am being honest.  He at least feigns interest when I am watching on ifollow though.  Think I missed two league games overall.

Ive had worse seasons believe it or not.  I seem to remember seeing quite a few games from November to Feb in Danny Wilsons dreadful second season without seeing a goal let alone a win.  This year I saw Tranmere which had some entertainment and Lincoln which also was strangely enjoyable.  Sendings off and comebacks.

P1 L1 I think, went on New Year's Day home to Exeter and it was awful. Think that's my worst season for about fifteen years, which is about in line with the team I suppose. Will still be full of optimism come July I'm sure.

Selfishly would have liked Wimbledon to come down as they're local to me, Bradford or Plymouth away not quite as easy to get to. Will be at Orient though I'd imagine.

Any of them particularly memorable?

Watched about 8 or 9, all at home.  Won 5 and only loss I can remember was the awful performance against Crawley.  Worst team I saw, by a mile, was Yeovil.  Our best performance was Morecambe.

Positives:  Football definitely better than last season.  Attendances held up reasonably well.

Negative.  General air of disillusionment about the Town (me as well as everyone else).  I've always left my season ticket with a mate in Swindon to give it to someone else when I don't go.  Up until last 2 seasons it was always snapped up.  Not any more.

I only went to all 46 league games once and managed to pick the first season we got relegated to Div 4.

This will be my 16th season in which I haven't missed a game home or away in any of the league or cup competitions. Seen some good seasons, seen some terrible seasons.

Hoping we can finally get it together next season and get out of this division, the longer we stay in this division the harder it becomes to attract the right sort of player. Added to that we will be joined by another Conference team who are throwing money around like confetti

Poor showing from me this season: P4 W1 D2 L1

Quite by coincidence, the 4 games involved only 2 opposition teams - Franchise & Cambridge, home & away.  Cambridge (H) about as dire as it gets; while Franchise (A) (after I'd swallowed my pride/principles to be there at all) was superb.

You say 6 seasons clean like its some sort of fucking honour badge, yet you still have an opinion on all things STFC and often shout down those who often actually bother to go to games and watch the team.

Its great to hear your opinions on all things Swindon related, how you manage to get such extremely valid viewpoints on games you don't attend, and for 6 years, you are such a super fan, I am in awe of you.

Crewe (A) 0-1

0 points, 0 goals for.

I would have gone to Bury and Oldham were it not for the arrival of a little one. That would have given me a respectable 4 points from 3 away games. Oh well.

What a load has beens this forum contains nowadays eh! Loads of old regulars no longer going or very infrequently it appears. Not been to a game for 2 seasons myself and I have no opinion on football matters for that reason. Fair play to those that still go I suppose. If you enjoy it then that's what it should be about.

I go to as many games now as I did about 20 years ago.

Probably true that the forum is disproportionately visited (& posted to) by out of towners who have less access than the locals to local Swindon media.  And, for obvious reasons, we are less likely to be regulars at home games as well.

I want Swindon to do well and I would like to go more than I have over the last 10 years but I've lost a lot of love for the game. The plastic prem fans, too much dosh involved, and I miss the players with passion and commitment the likes of Sean Taylor, Calderwood etc

Title: Re: Your personal Town record this season

My record this season is also no games attended. The previous 10+ years saw me attending virtually all home games and a handful away. The same before kids came along and disposable income went on disposable nappies.
Apart from the first couple of games, I've not really missed it. I avoid commenting on the football.
I will stay away next season too with Luke McC signing an extension to his contract.
I'm not sure if I will go after that regardless of where we are. I'm 2 years off retiring and had plans to go to most away games as well and stay overnight at most and see a bit of the places we visit - a bit of a lesser Wobbly Bob. I don't know if I will now. I've found other things to do and my weekend isn't ruined if Town lose now. Its a habit I have broken and I'm not sure I'm in a hurry to go back.
I've got a bit sick of Town if I'm honest. I think Alan McCormick was probably the last player I was genuinely pissed off left. The others come and go. There is no togetherness. Every season is a rebuild with players who generally couldn't care a toss as long as they've got a contract for a year. Everything is so short term. I'm not a Power fan either. My support has probably been stronger in seasons where we have been crap but I just can't muster up any enthusiasm any more.

I think most forums are similar these days. In someways it’s a fairly archaic forum of internet communication & has been over taken by social media like Facebook & Twitter.

I mean now a days who would specifically search for a Swindon Town fans forum & sign up when they can find all the news they want & talk to other fans via Facebook & Twitter which they can (and most likely do) use for a variety of different things / interests.

I’m guessing that a lot of us signed up 10-15 years ago in our late teens / early 20s putting most of us in our 30s now. Also making the assumption in that time a few, if not most of us have gone from single students to career driven, mortgaged, married family men with children. Life changes & priorities change.

It would be interesting to see the forum demographic for ages. I signed up on the original ThisIs at 18 and there seemed to be a lot of people in that 18-22 age bracket. I imagine now 30-35 is the more populated age bracket.

No doubt there will be a few younger members on here...but...we certainly don’t see any drunken Uni rambles like we used to.

tl;dr

We’re all old now.

From what I remember we split because it was so poorly moderated at Adver towers, only during standard working hours - which meant the WUMs came out in full force evenings & weekends.

I was an Adver/ThisIs poster but I'd been a BBC606 Forum poster beforehand. I thought I signed up on the TEF much earlier (unless I had another account that I forgot about?) but I did used to be a Guest lurker/voyeur on here, reading the arguments/bollocks/etc. My current account on here is only since 2014/2015.

What DV says is pretty agreeable. Organically the age level has risen and it just shows that numbers joining the forum are almost stagnant. Shame, always good to have some fresh meat. There is the comfort of "better the devil you know" in many regular posters but it can become tiresome (I include myself in that). Be good to see some new "real" accounts but it likely won't happen  :pint:
