Title: Leo Sayer
Post by: Sippo on Monday, April 29, 2019, 19:06:35
If you were going on a Leo Sayer where would you go? Has to be on a train. Suppose the most realistic options are Reading, Bath, Bristol or Cheltenham.

Oxford?

Later trains back from Reading than anything west of Swindon.

I think I'd rather not go on a Leo Sayer, but each to their own

For me, i’d Rather sit in the sun during the day than go out at night...

Oxford is a ball ache to get to (apart from the bus

The Oxford bus service is excellent, last one back is at 23.20, however the cognoscenti, prefer the chuffer, on the grounds that that the S6 rattles around a bit, making bladder control difficult after a long session.  The last train from Oxford to Didcot and down to Swindon is approx 00.07 out of Oxford.  As WB says much better than anything west.

I think Paul was being "literally" funny.

Cheltenham or Bath if coming back at a reasonable hour.

Yeah, the shit thing about an evening in Bath is the 10:40 train back. But if you are on a Leo you may be fine with that.

Bath. A full cab back (booked using a Swindon taxi firm) works out about a tenner each

Have you lot got no adventure? Brussels or Paris by GWR & Eurostar easily doable for a seven or eight hour stint, and back in the Queen's Tap to see the encore of the band.

Alternatively, Swindon's Old Town is a go-to destination atm. Some lovely venues have now really bedded in.

It's curious how although being in the same county Sarum is cut off from Swindon....  especially as there used to be a coach road, when Swindon was just the small town on the hill. That fell into disuse...

A left field, in more ways than one alternative might be Stroud... last train is about 10:30 but no arseing around, just a couple of stops and cheap.   Lots of intersting pubs within the environs, and as home to the Extinction Rebellion, chances of meeting some interesting people.

Before I opened the thread I wasn't sure what it'd be about.

Has he died?
Is he interested in buying the club?

If it has to be on a train we did one of these a couple of years back?

Oxford... get out to Cowley Road and crawl back in using the route suggested by John Robbins (Radio X) in his book The Holy Vible. Did it the other week (started in Brewdog for unlimited Wings on a Wednesday) and it was good fun.

I shall shortly be embarking on a Leo, along with a certain Mr. Fred Elliot. (Won't be a late one for him though)

Central Reading has a superb selection of pubs, probably because elements of the old Victorian centre are well preserved alongside the newer developments.  One of them made my Top Five back in 2010.

Renamed as The Alehouse a few years later, but just the same inside.  I'm 9 months in to a year off the beer at the moment, but still feel all warm & fuzzy when I think of that place.

Reading that earlier post made me realise that bar a couple of trips to the Brunel Rooms I have only ever drunk in 1 pub in Swindon!

Best place for sunny outdoor drinks and food in London? Normally head to shoreditch and street feast. Camden an obvious one.

Anyone been to Wembley box park?

Forget what its called but I think maybe old coal drop at Kings X is good. Canal, outdoor stage for acts and about 50 bars/food outlets every day. Nice in the sun anyway

Sure I've said it before but Reading used to be fantastic when I lived there (92-96) Some really great pubs and clubs. Not been back for 20 years so no idea what its like now? Trying to think of the clubs.

After Dark, Washington Heights, Caribbean Club Spring to mind for the clubs. Purple Turtle, Turks Head, The Anglers? A funny one near the butts underground with metal palm trees. I need a time machine

Yeah, I wouldn’t bother.
