When's the last time you saw a game? You might find things have improved considerably of late.

I have the two free tickets for tomorrow's game from the player sponsorship, I cannot make it now as my son cracked his head open skiing in Austria.  PM me if interested, they are in the Arkells stand and can be collected from the county ground

People find it difficult to get too excited about games v ColU..... think it's because they only came into the FL in 56, and were then generally moderate, and have usually played to small crowds.  Then they were relegated to the Conference around that early 90's time when we were having one of our better periods.

It kind of leads to an assumption that we should be better than them.... but here's the problem, we're not.  2 wins at the CG for us in the last 10, and we're below them in the league.   It's a must win but the injury crisis just makes it more difficult, so there's no sense of anticipation....

As long as they dont defend in a phalanx we should be good for a point at least

It's all Greek to me. ;)
We could struggle if they go with a very defensive testudo formation.

The phalanx was more a Greek thing, not to be confused with the Roman testudo, which was a defensive structure. Sort of thing you need when playing Lincoln.... it amused me in the week when Exeter played at Sincil Bank, that a Grecian if making the journey could have followed the Fosse Way...certainly the longest away day in Div 4 on a continuous Roman Road.

That is only one factor mentioned in possibly explaining why people don't get too excited about games v ColU.

Next season in theory, we could be playing FGR who came into the league in 17/18 and are our nearest neighbours or Sunderland who came in 1890, and are t'other end of the country.  Who of those two would you be anticipating playing the most?

Colchester sit well placed in the league in 6th place on 54 points 7 points ahead of Town but having played 1 more game so a win for Town will see us 4 points behind them with a game in hand.

Their leading scorers are Sammie Szmodics on 11, followed by 2 ex Town strikers Norris on 8 and Nouble on 7. Norris not having scored since 13th October a run of 23 matches (which he has not played in every game).

The have ex Town target under Brown - Eisa on loan to them from Shrewsbury and is the brother of Mo.

Colchester current form is LDLDWLLWWDD they have won 3 and lost 4 of them.
Swindons T current form is DDDLWDWLWWD Town have won 4 and lost 2 of them.

They have lost the same number of matches (10) as Swindon but have won 3 more, they have also scored 15 goals more than us conceding 5 less goals.

They beat us in the away game in November 1-0 with a late goal in injury time of the first half, Colchester were not very good and we looked like at least getting a draw right up to the final whistle but couldn't hit the net, that was under Phil Brown in what proved to be his last match in charge. Since that game Col U have only won 3 league games.

In games between the sides at the CG Swindon have won 19, drew 10 and lost 10 times scoring 68 and conceding 42 times.

Colchester are unbeaten at the County Ground in the last 5 matches with 3 wins and 2 draws, each win was with them scoring a single goal more than us.

2-1 defeat with Anderson scoring©  in front of 5,906 with 202 Essex boys there.

A game is a game to me, Reg. I couldn't really care less.. different if we were to draw a Premier League team away from home in a cup tie.. but Sunderland/FGR/AN Other in a League tie? I'm (personally) not arsed either way.

We're all different.... I've always thought some opponents are more interesting than others.

Today is the most important game of the season so far.... in that it is "must win" to hold on to any even tenuous hope of a PO finish.  Yet it doesn't feel like a big game

Maybe the word you could used is apathy instead of your sweeping comment, regarding clearly your personal belief that the populas would avoid a game with Colchester for the reason you described?

Where I agree with you is it does not feel like a big game yet clearly it is.

This for me is the biggest game of the season, a proper make or break game for the season.

We have been threatening to put 3 or 4 past someone the last few weeks yet there is always that 1 game (a Crawley or an Exeter) when we look like any half decent side will beat us with little effort.

If we can beat Col U and win our game in hand then we will be 1 point behind them, but if we lose I think us being 10 points behind is too much for us. A draw is no good either IMO, win or bust.

There's not much loquacity on this matchday thread...with just 80mins until KO, that is usually what I'm good bad for. Not from me today.

FT: 7-1 Kayne 27, 31; Theo 38, 47, 77; Broadbean 62; Dunne 90+6 ; Smodicz 2 (Pen).
At: 6007
Pen missed by Doughty.
4 Yellows, 1 Red (Dunne for celebrating, 2nd Yellow).
176 disappointed Community Homes dwellers.
17 spilt cups of Bovril.
3 stairwell stumbles.
1 blocked toilet.

Away from home Col U have won 6 drawn 5 lost 6 F21 A21.
Swindons home form is won 5 drawn 7 lost 5 F19 A23.

The stats would suggest an away win but the recent form would suggest a draw.

We will no doubt miss Doughty but a lot hangs on the shoulders of the creative midfielder that replaces him, something Bennett did not do well last week IMO creating very little and not influencing the game at all.

There isn't really another attacking midfield option though especially is Rose is still injured (rumoured to be out for another couple of weeks). Carroll, Toums, Dunne and McCourt are all better defensively than attacking.

Woolf at LB instead of Hokey Koiki? I'll howl at the moon and eat my carp if that works.

Seems like a PB type of team sheet. Unbalanced. Looking at that I'd say we're hoping to play like the away side and invite Colchester to attack us. Then us getting something on the subsequent counter. Hmmm.

It could be 3 centre backs with Knoyle pushing into a wide midfield position on the right and Bennett/Woolery wide left with Woolery or Bennett sat behind Robinson.

                    Vigs

        Woolf Conroy Broadbent

Knoyle  McCourt  Carroll  Dunne  Bennett

               Woolery

                         Robinson

That formation you suggest makes a little more sense JJ :)

Knoyle is better advanced and yes Woolery/Bennet wide left would seem right. Hmmm still think we may try to invite them on to us but with not Smodicz and Nouble not being that type of forward, would they want to? Could be quite the stalemate with the game settled via a pen, free kick or one break away counter. Having said that, if they don't attack, we have to draw them out somehow and could potentially go on a rout. By rout, I mean 2-0 or 3-0  :)

Yeah in the away game Nouble was quick but wanted the ball played to his feet or just behind the fullbacks to get behind us, Szmodicxz(sp) was by far their best player and looked a threat all game.

They have a quite defensive side apparently today with 2 or 3 expereinced midfielders missing as well.

Not really mate just that with whats going on at other clubs maybe hes not the "devil incarnate" that a lot of fans on social media say about him. The talks with the council going well and spoke about the budget again being quite large which Brown wasted but Wellens hasn't so far.

He did admit he had made some mistakes in choosing the wrong manager, I think hes done OK but many will shout that down and only see the negative things he has done.

I think hes done OK, the biggest mistake for me was giving Williams the job when he didn't really want it, he wasn't ready for it and was very unsuccessful in the role. The rest of his appointments made sense on paper. And lets face it, hes not here to make shitloads of money from us, nobody could do that!

Colchester have no pace whatsoever at the back, we should exploit them more with the pace of Robinson and Woolery but our long passing has been almost entirely shit so far, the wind isn't helping us.

Struggling to see what Carroll offers to be honest. He loses the ball and then blames everyone else!

Woolfenden looks uncomfortable at right-back as does Knoyle at left-back.

How long will it take for them to realise there's a fairly strong wind?

Possibly against the run of play but their keeper made an awful kick which we put them under pressure Dunne found Woolery who met Carrol 6 yards out into the roof of the net.

Well we probably didn't deserve that on the run of play but who cares, win agly for once, so many teams do it to us.

Lots of passengers for Town but we held on in there and got 2 excellently worked goals from unlikely scorers.

I would get Bennett off and Anderson on for the 2nd, still not convinced with Knoyle at LB and would probably bring Koiki on and put Knoyle back to RB, and move Woolf to CB.

Robinson has run his socks off up front.

Win ugly Town, that will keep us in it.

Really cage, tight game for 40 mins. Both sides terrified of over committing knowing the other is lethal on the break, then bang.

Everyone solid, even Carroll despite a dodgy first 15, but a trio stand out - Knoyle is keeping one of the best wide players in the division very quiet, Broadbent is such an upgrade even on Nelson and very much my new favorite player and lastly Robinson is a revalation. chases, holds everything up, had quality on the ball and so direct.

Not an enthralling performance, but very solid and two efficient goals.

That great 2nd goal came straight from a pass backwards to conroy which the crowd signalled their contempt at. They did it again when Knoyle checked back and laid it off to Dunne instead of whipping it in straight away.

Believe it or not, sometimes professional footballers have a better idea of what they’re supposed to be doing than most of the cretins in the crowd.

Currently 5pts from 5th place with a game in hand. Interesting times. It would be nice to stick a couple more in and turn that GD into a +1. Likely Colchester would risk shit or bust 2nd half, so if patient we could strategically add 2 or maybe 3 more for a 5-0. Maybe saying 7-1 wasn't so silly after all? However, as mentioned earlier, 2-0 or 3-0 would be a rout for Town this season.

C.O.Y.R

It's still the hope that gets you. Form team into the POs would make for a very positive season end if successful or not. Has the Football League relegation trapdoor closed for 2018/19 yet? 20pts clear with 33pts (for others) available? FWIW and it isn't worth much, I still think the last PO spot will be attained by a team with under 70pts.

Would fancy us to grab another on the break now, Robinson and Woolery have the beating of them and the ball will hold up a bit for long balls into the channel.  I cannot figure out what Bennett is doing on the pitch though -he has that Norris knack of being in just the wrong place all the time so spends a lot of the match watching the game go on around him.  Win this and there is still hope - Wellens at least has us looking competitive.  We were not at the races for much of that half but we seem a bit more solid and seem to have more threat up top at the moment, Robinson has been a good signing.

From the Colchester forum....

Quote
this Swindon team are absolutely shocking. The whole game is being played at half pace, if we step it up we can win this comfortably.

Absolutely criminal defending, they haven’t had a sniff and then we gift them two goals in as many minutes

You really wouldn't believe what a truly terrible team Swindon have been up until we gifted them the first, but we've dropped to their level. We really need to inject some pace, it's being played like they are running through treacle.

We are and we aren't even playing well. Stil, we are simply better than Colchester. Done our homework on Senior, kept him quiet, no Szmodiczxzxz to tend to either. Patience paid off. Well done Wellens, you got this potential banana skin, spot on.

I enjoyed the second half as much as I didn't enjoy the first.

1st half was garbage with 2 good goals.

2nd half we pressured and didn't whack it long and looked so much better.

And now the impossible dream is back on. It shouldn't be, but it is.

You Reds!

Wellens' point/game ratio so far would have had us on 78 points if he was here from the start of the season.

That would put us in 1st place. By 9 points.

Oh, and kudos to Wellens. he proved a few people wrong today.

Certainly, and with myself especially RE: Woolf at LB but putting Knoyle on Senior was a masterstroke. Ok, so it limited Knoyle's attacking ability but shutting out Senior was key and they really offered nothing else. They missed Szmodics whereas we, with what seemed a weak midfield didn't really mss anyone. It just took a little longer to get going. Imagine that side with Rose and Doughty in the middle of the park. March could be a good month. Great start!

Jesus. Is that including the Carlisle game?

Edit. Again. 29 from 16, so 1.8 over 34 games so far gives us 61, which is 5th.

Yep

17 games played. 29 points won. = 1.7 point per game average. Multiplied by 46 = 78.2

If we don't include the Carlisle game it would work out as 83 points.

I was surprised but pleased with Dunne's display, playing forward a bit. A hand in the first goal, and a brilliant long cross for Woolf's goal.  His experience showed,  harrassing their midfield as well. My MOM, though others  like McCourt, Woolery, Broadbent and Robinson are equally deserving. I don'r see why Woolf got it, he had a very poor first half, except for his goal. Still we all see it differently.

Factor in also that he played much of that with a squad that was a) not his and b) very unbalanced, it makes it even more impressive.

The signing of Robinson has, so far, completely changed the dynamic of the team.  He does a far better job up top in that role than anyone else we have tried this season.  He hassles and harries, he holds the ball up when needed but also creates over the top options.  It stretches a defence and keeps them honest, allowing other players to look a bit more dangerous and meaning we always look like we might have a sniff.  There were some games earlier in the season where it didn't even look like we could get the ball into the box.

His signing has also simplified the job of others - people look like they know where they are supposed to be on the pitch.  Well done Wellens.  Still some hit and miss games, but on the whole we look at least as good as the teams we are playing and often like we have another gear than they can muster.  It's League two, so you get a Crawley, but that's three or four teams around us we've been the better of the teams on display.  Tranmere, Colchester & Franchise, plus also Grimsby really.  A few above us are stuttering, we don't really have any pressure on us yet.  We might just sneak this.

Strange game, played better than that and lost at times.  Never looked like losing but until the worst player in our team scored we never looked like scoring!  Second goal killed the game really, Col.U were not particularly good in our penalty box for all their possession.  Onwards and upwards (perhaps!)

Key win.... now two away games, can we keep the good form going on the road?  Still little margin for error, but if we could get the GD into positive numbers before the next 2 at the CG we'll definitely be in business.

Good to see goals coming from unusual sources today, we'll need more of that.

as I'm sure mentioned that wasn't good today but 3-0!! We played a lot better against Grimsby imo but I don't really care I don't think iv seen a home win this season.

We lacked a lot of creativity and also bravery. The need to pass backwards instead of confidence.

The first 30 started much like previous, no threat to our goal, control of the ball but nothing really happening apart from a blind hoof to Theo who seems to make good of any lumped ball.

Bennett and Carroll were probably the worst offenders. Bennett offered little, gave cheap balls away, created nothing for a supposedly attack minded player. Carroll is a little bastard really but he's ours which is better than having him against us. Seems intent on trying to get a yellow- quite unbelievable how many fouls he gave away and constant whingeing about options in front him without the ability to drive forward himself and poor passing. BUT they bith won us the game, the way of football.

a fantastic result against a team we had to win. I'm really happy with a good 7/8 players of the team and it's look like a team we can build around for seasons to come.

Carroll is a dirty, niggly little prick. But how often have we complained about not having that about us?

He could have picked up a red card later in the game for what seemed to be a two-footed lunge on one of their players. It was just outside their box as well, an utterly needless challenge. Thankfully their guy just moved out of the way of the challenge and nothing happened.

Perhaps Candy had put a bet on himself to get booked. Via a friend of course. Perhaps not.

Off the pitch, I liked what Lee Power had to say and nature of the beast, but it sounded to me like he was a little hurt by some social media comments about his "business interests" in the club. He reiterated what the accounts show and how he has continually put money in. He came across genuine with it too, it wasn't all balshy "attles n fackin pay-errs". Then again, what do I know? I thought Doughty a while back behaved like a petulant schoolboy.

From the ColU forum:

Quote
Comfortably outplayed by Swindon seconds. Yet again our management team simply do not prepare our group of players appropriately. It happens time and time again.

Worst goalkeeping display ever in the 15 seasons of following the U's. Referee worse than Kettle. The better team made to look like clowns by a very average Swindon.

Dreadful - for most of the first half we had them in our pocket, without to be honest much creative flair up front. Gilmartin had already been giving glimpses of the shockers to follow, poor kicking, constantly playing out to a defender who was already under pressure, and having to aimlessly lump to no one the inevitable pass back. However, in the 39th minute he surpassed himself with a dreadfully scuffed goal kick straight to a Swindon player in our own half, and several pinpoint passes later Swindon had an ill-deserved 1-0 lead. Two minutes later and a sweeping cross straight on to the head of a Swindon player, who looked miles offside, headed back past Gilmartin into the far corner, and the game looked lost.

It didn't get much better 2nd half sadly. We huffed and puffed and did try and get back into the game, but by then Swindon were quite happy to sit deep and weather anything we tried. Gilmartin wasn't responsible for Mandron running down a blind alley and losing possession on the edge of our box, but he was responsible for the weak hands to only palm the incoming shot up and over his shoulder and into the corner of the goal. It was good to see Norris come on, and he did at least have a few shots on goal, something everyone else seemed remarkably reluctant to try.

...and the referee was absolutely shocking.

Gilmartin made it quite plain that even though he is GK coach he wanted also to be the regular keeper. In my mind those two jobs are not compatible and he should relinquish his coach post and see then if he continues to be picked as surely the GK coach has important input in the selection process....ergo...pick Gilmartin.
I seem to think we had a surfeit of keepers at the start of the season; surely his job was to groom one or other of them for first team duty, NOT make the position his own. Weak upper management is ruining our club.

I think I'm in the minority, I like Carroll. He does the dirty stuff in midfield and he's effective in that role. I don't think Wellens expects him to be creative, just to break up play and get the ball to one of our players. I haven't got a problem with him passing backwards either, he's not the type of player who will dribble with the ball, or ping a cross over. Win the ball, keep possession,  that's his game.

100% agree and reflection of Wellens excellent recruitment of effective players. Same for Broadbent and Robinson who with Carroll make up a very physical and determined spine.

Great win and well appreciated by the 5,700 at the end.

It's not easy to step up and then maintain the pressing for a second half, so credit to the management for sorting that out at half time.

Robinson, superb and shows what we've been missing up front this season.

Bit of a 'dogs of war' type midfield, but maybe what is needed in the games against direct rivals and until Doughty and Rose are fit again.
Not pretty but as long as they are effective, that's the main thing.

Presumably Bancroft now goes back in the grow bag on the high protein mix.

This. Gives us a lot more than Dunne & McCourt imo although tbf Dunne hasn't been too bad of late. A lot of the time yesterday he was correct in having to pass backwards as there was very little movement in front of him. Usually Doughty would be dropping short to receive the ball from him to link up the next phase of play but Dunne/McCourt were never going to provide that option yesterday.

Not much chat on the Colchester forum it seems post game, just a couple of comments...

Quote
Ref has been awful, he has given us free kicks when he should’ve played advantage and let them waste a ridiculous amount of time

We’ve not played worse than this for a long time. No single player can take any credit.

Been coming. Gilmartin's hands not strong enough.

We've been as bad 2nd half as they were for the first half an hour. No pattern, no flow, no pace. I get the logic of the changes but they were not what we needed. We needed a bit of pace and the ability to pull their players about, It's all been too comfortable since they took the lead.

Don’t get it. On paper this is a team who should be challenging for automatics. On their day they are as good as I’ve seen. But, as has been said, we have a suicidal tendency. No consistency. Something is wrong with their mindset. Seem to be bottlers.

Have to say that we were poor and bringing the ball out of defence. Too slow, easily closed down and put under a lot of pressure. No dissimilar to Carlisle game where they also gave us very little time on the ball. Has our style of play been worked out by every team in the league now

Absolute bobbins versus The Robins

there was little energy to the team at all which matched Swindon for the first 40 minutes where the match resembled a game of walking football.

Totally agree with all of that.

Even the last bit about building a side for seasons to come.

Of the starting XI, 2 are contracted for 19/20.  It's the modern game at lower league level.... rapid turnover of players with lots of loans or short contracts.

Of the side that Wellens inherited v Carlisle, only 4 would be starting if he picked the same XI as yesterday, next week.

Of course what it does mean is a lot of these players minds are focused atm, by a need for a contract next year either here or at another club.

I think several of the loans will still be with us next season, I hope Robinson will sign for us on a perm, Koiki will sign on a loan for the season (yes I know he didnt start yesterday) as Wellens said Woolf may or may not re sign next season if Ipswich stay up, Wellens stated that Carroll could be available next season for a year loan, Bennett...not sure about, he offers very little all game then scores almost out of the blue, yes helped by the keeper a lot, but he still took a shot, something Anderson needs to learn to do.

A funny point from the pre match interviews last week, I love how Steve Mildenhall says he constantly rips the piss out of Carroll for coming from Oxford....good lad!

I think the uncertainty is the same at every club, especially at this level.

Some clubs like Oldham had almost an entire change of personal in the summer and with Scholes coming in the same could happen next season too.

Thats the way football is now, not many long term contracts, although Power said yesterday that he is doing his best to tie down everyone early for next season, the only one dawdling on signing is Vigs and his " representitives" as he calls them.

Also some contracts could be put on hold to see which division we will actually be in next season as there is still a possibility it could be L1.

Yes.... more or less everybody is in the same boat.  It does mean though that short term is the name of the game... we've now got about 10 weeks possibly extended with this group of players, then come July, the group will look very different.

The specific players are in a way irrelevant. Wellens has shown so far he can recruit, plays effective football and adapts.

Yesterday we played much longer than previously under RW, particularly diagonals, because they're fullbacks are very attacking and small - Very effective it was too. Have seen some comments saying we weren't brave or confident on the ball, but in my mind it's more we adapted and played in a different way against good opposition.

Have seen some comments saying we weren't brave or confident on the ball, but in my mind it's more we adapted and played in a different way against good opposition.

Yes... the modern game is very much about getting something out of the players you've got.  It was pretty obvious looking at his pick, there was something in mind, a bit different to the usual.

Great when it works, not so great when it doesn't and it looks like you're getting carried away by your own tactical genius.

I see Sid Nelson has only played 3 games for Tranmere with 1 start. Can see him coming back in the summer alongside Broadbent.

Wouldn’t be so sure on that. Conroy has been quite good recently, helped obviously by having someone as physical and dependable as Broadbent beside him. His bursts forwards and eye for a pass/cross played a part in goals against both Grimsby and ColU. I guess he hasn’t yet been tested by a truly physical forward like Akinfenwa but I’ve been quite impressed by him.

Signing Sid would be great for competition for places, though.

Yeah. Changing tactics for specific opponents - madness!

And, to top it all, he changes players’ positions during the game. Almost unbelievable we got a 3-0 win doing those sort of things.

Everyone knows you should just carry on regardless.

that was me, what I meant was that the midfield yesterday was very safe and solid. Passers who go side to side and backwards. Our goals came from the confidence I was referring to. Theo drove forward with the ball having closed down all game and Carroll took it on him to sprint towards the 6 yard box to be in a position to finish.

Woofenden made a run from deep demanding the ball back post to head home. Bennett took a chance and shot from distance when we saw a lack of options.

Colchester weren't showing intent and the game was there like so many at home. Doughty is a risk taker always looking for an attack with movement or a layoff. it's what good players do. don't wait for an opening but make one.

Robinson is the epitome of this. He chases down every ball, challenges for every header regardless of a chance of winning it and gives defenders a torrid time. I used to look at Richards and Adebayo playing and think I would absolutely be loving it if I was a cb against them.

yesterday the long balls and diagonals did work but it was the slow build up play especially in the first half hour. An example being we had the ball for 20 mins trying to find an opening, Colchester opened us up with 4 passes and nearer scored.

Wellens seems to have a very common sense approach.

We have no left back so what does he do? He signs a left back.
We have no real strikers so he goes out and signs Theo Robinson.
Playing against a team with a very good winger... puts our best fullback against him to keep him quiet.

Things that you would think don't need explaining but still some managers get wrong.

Not sure if he's back 100% yet

Don't think the argument stands up, insofar as it's inevitable that most managers fail, and this will be despite having badges and often decent playing careers.  I'm sure all of them thought they knew what they were doing... that's the simple bit.  The tricky bit is the between the ears stuff of man management and the creation of belief, what you might call the magic wand.

A classic example with us Danny Wilson, created a very good team where all his experience as a gaffer seemed to be on display, which then morphed into a terrible outfit relegated where he seemed unable to do much about it.

I just think it's too early to tell, yes it's good that we're doing a bit better and looking upwards again, but it's only a small step... nothing wrong with that, because it's how it needs to be.  The only way we'll get back to something like our historic status as a mid table Div 3 side with the occasional foray upwards, is by small steps.  The next 2 games will give us a good idea of Wellens' ability... can we keep the decent away form now a bit more pressure comes on?

More to do with the fact we lost 50+ goals than Wilsons management skills.

Managing events, like the whims of players, is the key part of the job that we don't get to see, as such, beyond the impact it has on the pitch.  What it shows is that sometimes a gaffer for all his abilities as a coach, can be undone by circumstances.

See that Wellens wants to get the crowds up, and improve the atmosphere, so that the players can't hear the moaners and groaners... Saturday, had the classic DRS moan at Woolf, for passing backwards, which led to the second goal.

Of the remaining 5 games at the CG 4 are v teams in deep relegation shit, so they may bring a few, the biggest gate in Div 4 Sat, was at Meadow Lane for the basement battle v BPV.

As regards Town fans... it may be difficult for this season.

That's the result of years of Cooper and Williams. Back, back, across pitch, back, lose it and concede

Many an English football fan likes to see a ball into the mixer early to a big man, hoping for a knock down bits and pieces scramble. Had Woolf attempted an early ball and it cannoned into the defender for a throw in, because being a CH, he's never going to run past anyone... the fans in the DRS would have been happy enough, especially if we had a long throw merchant.

Wellens said: “The only thing that frustrated me was - four or five minutes before we scored our first goal – Theo Robinson had a shot from 30 yards that went over the bar.

“The fans then start signing ‘we’ve had a shot, we’ve had a shot’. I don’t like that, because the players can hear it.

I recall the shot, a volley from a long way out went not too far over the bar but I didn't hear anything like that, it could have been localized to behind his dugout maybe?

Wrongly or wrongly I think it was in response to the game as it unfolded to that point. We scored 2 goals straight after so it must work :) :)

Actually, I thought the fans by  and large grasped this was a critical game and were largely supportive. The atmosphere even raised a notch or two above "morgue".

It points to a problem we as a fanbase have right now. Its not fair on Wellens/the team, but we expect things to go wrong and some sections react accordingly. Its the hangover of sliding from League 1 contenders to division 4 alsorans*

* which may of course turn out to be a bad assumption.

I fully understand groans when players try things and it goes wrong, we all do that. I don't get actually signing that when the shot was actually a pretty good effort under the circumstances and before then we had a couple of decent chances too.

Its like some of our fanbase WANT us to not succeed, especially at home.

And I wouldn't tar everyone with the same brush as online we could actually hear the TE sing on a couple of occassions, although not much, but the song RW was mentioning was not picked up by the microphones at all.

Giving Cooper stick at Blades when we played nobody up front and didnt have a shot on goal, was justified.

Love him and felt he had a point when people weren't giving him a short option.

It may be 2+2=5, but his comments on BBC suggest that he may (just may) be starting to think about an exit over the next couple of years and the ground and training ground purchase - or a share of that - is key to it being a saleable asset. I’m still dubious that any football asset is saleable unless it is in the right league, with the right ground. He’s right to the extent that if he does leave us in League Two, but with a lasting infrastructure, he’s done a lot more than most owners. Fitton and Wray gave us great days out and hope, but ultimately, didn’t get us anywhere. Seton Wills saw us somehow keep our heads above water...
