Title: Franchise v STFC Friday Official Match Fread
Post by: singingiiiffy on Friday, February 8, 2019, 19:11:06
So the season is over. In just one match the boys sucked out all enthusium and it's all about setting players up into the formation and style of the new gaffer and getting ready for next season.

This should really be looked at as a competitive pre-season that starts now.

Wellens has made his signings- 8 is extremely high and one that most clubs would look to make in a summer. Wellens had his free passes now, let's try and see some substance and direction on the pitch.

Theo is years too late in joining and doubt he will score this season. We will lose tomorrow because we are against a better team (even though we are on better form) and we have a million midfielders with no idea how to make them fit and work together. 2-0 dongs.

3rd best team at home against 7th best away.
3rd best defence record against 15th.
6th highest goalscorers against 18th.

all the stats show a franchise win. lump on

(vast majority of my predictions fuck up. reverse physcology  :hmmm:)

I feel confident of a win here.

I’d go if I could be arsed. But events past have taken its toll on me and my support.

Tough one to call today.

You would expect Franchise to win today however our away form has been ok recently so you never know. Would love the Town to win but i will go for a draw 2-2.

1-2 win.

They like to play out from the back and with the pressure we apply I'm confident we can catch them out a couple of times.

Robinson and Richards before they get a late consolation.

Pre match disenfranchisement in Captain Ridley's Shooting Party.
Great name for a pub with a nod to local history.
Would be a good name for a hooligan firm if there were any football clubs here of note.

They also have a Brunel Shopping Centre.
Wasn't aware of any IKB connections, maybe just a failed, geographically flawed attempt to honour The Stranglers.

The Marshall Amplifier HQ is not far from the ground.
I boycott them in favour of a Fender Amp.

The stadium strikes me as Darlington Arenaesque folly on a grand scale.
Maybe it's the prospect of the padded seats that always tempts us here in large numbers.

Doughty is the only outfield survivor from the match day squad from last time we played here.
Would like to see him and Rose given a go together in midfield.
Not seen us prevail here before so hopefully today is the day.

Swindon haven't won at MK in the last 6 visits with only 1 draw in that time, our last win was in 2009 when we won 4-1 there.

MK are probably the most odious club ever having stolen a living and a league position from Wimbledon FC in just 2004.

Their recent form has been LLDWLLLWL

Their home form has been excellent though with 10 wins, 3 draws and just 2 defeats so far - scoring 25 and conceding just 7 in their 15 games so far at home.

MK's leading scorers are currently Agard on 14, Aneke on 14 and Healey on 8 goals. Agard has scored 5 times in his last 4 matches vs Swindon, Healey has scored once against us for Col U but Aneke has yet to register a goal in his 5 games.

They currently sit in 6th place in the table 10 points better off than Town.

Their home average attendance is 7,167.

MK fans seem agitated by Tisdale since Decemeber when their poor run started a few actually calling for his dismissal after just 6 months in the job, they seem to have little patience despite their good start to the season.

Many citing the dull boring defensive negative football that Tisdale was reknown for playing when he was at Exeter that seems to be cropping up again at MK, his tactics seemingly weird and wrong very often and his substitutions unpredictable at best. Many of their fans convinced until recently that they would easily "walk this shit league" (their words)

The Concrete Roundabouts forum almost exploding after their poor defeat to Tis's old club Exeter at the weekend.

2-1 defeat with Anderson scoring in front of 7,696 with 582 Town fans there.

Thought I read somewhere (Adver?) that the initial allocation of 600-700 had sold out. Then pay on the day. So wouldn't be surprised if our turnout was more 800-900.

It's an easy one for the London Reds as they don't have to work out how to change trains.  :)

Not expecting to be happy come 5pm. :-(
Long gone are the days when I used to look forward to games think we would win every game, now I am just happy to not be embarrassed come 5pm by the result.

A draw would be an excellent result today as we have only got 1 point in the last 6 visits there.

Lets try and build upon it and although play offs are seemingly out of our reach at least we can fuck up the obnoxious wankers today by putting a dent in their promotion hopes, they are not exactly on a good run themselves with only 7 points out the the previous possible 27 and that includes 6 defeats!

Having lived away from Swindon for the last 18 years I can say that Swindon is by no means as bad as many people make it out to be, there are a lot worse places to live, I personally think Milton Keynes has little going for it but thats just my personal opinion, as we are all entitled to.

Parity at best and that would be pushing it.
Couldn't help but ponder on the irony of going past the very grand Conservative Club building surrounded by a sea of empty retail units and Eastern European enterprise.
That's Bletchley though, err not Milton Keynes.

Milton Keynes itself is a sprawl of social housing estates separated by dual carriageways and linked by numerous unappealing underpasses. Lots of retail parks though which makes the people happy. Or possibly not depending on preference.

Agree, got family there and it’s a pretty decent city. Got a lot of stuff to do entertainment wise, masses of green spaces.

Then again I can look at it without rose-tinted glasses as I have zero link to Swindon apart from football

Another great away half, like Tranmere.  Very odd that we can play this way and like the previous home game!

Doughty’s finsih was sublime.

Conroy is a worry, trying to play too much against a big forward.  Needs to focus on defending.

Look good out wide, Robinson seems to offer more up top than Richards.  He isn’t looking a real threat yet but he is keeping people busy and keeps possession more often.  Also can offer an option of playing behind the defence.

Rose gives us much more stability in the middle, like him.

Anderson looks a threat but still has a weaker shot than Sterling.

Promising.

Oh, and while MK have been second best, they have real threats, and we will need to play that well again otherwise they will make us pay I fear.

Title: Re: Franchise v STFC Friday Official Match Fread
Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, February 9, 2019, 16:02:41
Good solid all round performance by Town, Doughty running midfield and Rose controlling everything sat in front of the back 4 so far and his distribution way better than Dunnes.

McCourt looking a little lost at times as is Woolery, otherwise they are all playing really well and easily in control so far, Dongs having very few chances and what they have had have been weak.

We are exploiting the full width of the huge pitch, they can't cope with our passing and they look like statues in midfield.

Robinson looks far better than Richards and is running the channels well but his best chance he fucked up the header quite badly, over all hes done well though.

Knoyle looking good up against the ancient Lewington and Anderson coming in from the left looks excellent but as ever needs to improve his final ball.

We must have had nearly 60% possession and with corners 6 to 1 in our favour, MK resorting to fouling us, lets keep it tight 2nd half.

Yes back to back good halves are so very rare in the last 3 or 4 seasons TBH, have to show some spirit 2nd half and fight them, they will come out running and attack us more than they did 1st half I am sure.

Good first half and good effort in the second.

Anderson went to sleep for the first 10 mins of the second half but then suddenly sprang to life causing them problems and a great finish.  His shots are usually so weak, but he leathered that one.

McCourt was a bit absent, but Rose probably ran out of legs so can understand him coming off when he did.  Robinson provides more threat in behind and down the channel, good start from him.  You'd kill Doughty if misses than penalty, but cheeky as fuck.

Koiki looked a real threat and much better defending than his first game, seems to be growing into the role to me.  Conroy was a problem for us late on because we couldn't win a header pinged to his side of the box on those diagonal balls.

Overall, good performance against a team that is strong enough for this league.  Wellens must be wondering what the fuck the team are doing at home.  Good to see what having an incoherent Manager can bring to the table though.  Didn't have any complaints with the selection today and he made the right changes.  Dunne was busy when he came on but I do think he is the player to sit it out most games.

What a win.

Got 3 on the trot at home now I believe. Better learn how to win there over the next couple of days because our season dying or staying alive depends on it. Probably need 7 points out of 9 minimum.

Nice to get one over the MK Stealers. Have that you cunts.

its the hope that kills you and now I have to go on Tuesday to see them play shit again after a brilliant away win.

I virtually went, and Robinson was much more dangerous than we've had in the middle all season, without getting the run of the ball most of the time. He had one bad miss with a free header he should have buried, but he was taking up some great positions that weren't being found. Hopefully his team-mates will get to learn his game better in the next few games.

Of the starting line up I thought Taylor was a bit off the pace but Koiki came on and did very well and probably should have started, McCourt has a patchy game but didn't do much wrong he just doesn't have the skill to contribute a lot more, Carroll would have been the better option, Woolery started well then faded for 30 mins of the first half, he got better 2nd half though and won a penalty with his pace which scared MK all game.

Robinson lead the line well, he won a lot of balls played up to him, he looks stronger than I remember him being and pacey too, had a couple of poor headers in the first half but over all played really well and is a much better option than Richards.

Rose ran midfield defensively, not much got past him and his breaking down of play and distribution was excellent, he looked tired but probably could have lasted the whole game, Dunne didn't do badly when he came on but is not as good as McCourt or Rose IMO.

Doughty was superb, he looked eager and his passing in the attacking midfield position was brilliant all game, took both his goals with such class and he looked happy again, MoM for me just in front of Rose.

Broadbent too looked excellent at the back with some saving headers and tackles and he can run with the ball and pass, Knoyle had a good game as always attacking Lewington who could not match his pace at all, another good game by Knoyle.

Conroy had a mixed bag, he couldn't win many headers but got a few good blocks, he looked ok but possibly not our best option at the back.

Taylor looked rusty and his shooting was wayward well before he had to go off after an achilles kick by Aneke who was a dirty bastard all game.

Vigs did quite well, he did his best to push a shot into his own net early on but luckily it went wide, he had no chance with one goal and was completely flatfooted for the other, claimed his crosses well again, hes improved in Mildenhalls coaching on that part of his game a lot this year.

Anderson played possibly his best game for Town and could easily have got MoM too but for Doughty and Rose, he ran them ragged at the back, cutting in from the left, they had no answer to him all game, his goal was fantastic, 25 to 30 yards out in the corner...if only he could do that regularly!

Carroll when he came on looked handy, broke down play a bit and added extra height at the back for the nervy last 10 mins, would like to see him start alongside Rose.

Great win against a side that we made look very poor, without Aneke and Agard they would be relegation material, they created so little against us, we looked like we were the higher placed team right from KO.

Very happy with that, now lets win a few at home!

If we beat FGR Tuesday (Who lost at home to bottom side Notts County today) then we will be just 4 points behind them.

We need to sort out that home form quickly.

Coopers' lot a bit like us better away than at home.... best away record in Div 4 and have scored the most goals.

A big ask, so big it's not yet worth thinking about.

lots of their fans becoming annoyed with Cooper blaming everyone apart from himself when they lose games, that sounds very familiar! the return of Doidge has unbalanced the side apparently with just 2 wins in their last 6 matches.

Over ran in midfield by Notts County today, their fans on the forum seem super confident they will get back to winning ways against us Tuesday, lets wait and see shall we....

We lost at home to the team with the worst away record so it'd be typical of town to beat the team with the best away record.

He had a really poor spell just before the goal for MK, so I can see him thinking of making the change to help solidify the team.  He lost the ball a coupe of times quickly on breakaways, including the build up to their goal I think.  He then sprang to life, probably heard the sideline rumblings.

I think my favourite part was ‘stand up, if you want him out!’

And literally no one standing up who wasn’t already standing.

However, in all seriousness we were absolutely dominating the game when they started the Power Out chants. It has a visible impact on the players and MK got back into the game somewhat.

Great win. Reviews cover it well. Rose was a real positive - I think he’ll be popular.

As for that ground - my my. Not my cup of tea, being out of town, etc - but it’s very impressive. But it’s similar to building a beautiful 8 bed mansion, with a moat and acres of land, to live in on your own. 7.5k my arse. 4K of those weren’t in the ground.

My youngest's interest has been going off the boil lately, but back with a bang today. Sat with two of his cousins, which helped. Seeing his enthusiasm return has to be my highlight. He even made me wait by the team coach for 10 mins after the game to get a picture with one of the players. He didn't care who...and Jak McCourt came out first and happily obliged. Ardiles Jnr Mk II has a new favourite player now. Funny how their minds work.

I think that's the first time I've seen us beat the Franchise, and it was sweet. Horrible 'club'. We'll never forget. Having to play in that cavernous stadium has to serve as a weekly reminder of the club they were meant to be, but never became. Seeing Wimbledon now above them in the League - and having got there under their own steam, the right way - is the best indicator, surely, that the Franchise experiment has failed.

Hopefully you're right.

My fear is with that stadium they may get some mega rich owner, probably foreign, who doesn't know or care about how the Franchise came to be and pumps millions in.

Can only hope when Winklecock decides he's had enough it falls into the 'wrong' hands and the club is driven into oblivion.

The only club I wish that upon - Oxford included.

I hope so. They accept now that their 'history' begins in 2004, but it still grates that they call themselves the Dons - basically because there's a London suburb over an hour away that ends in 'don'. Logically, it actually makes more sense for us to adopt the Dons as a name/nickname than them. MK United or the MK Cows or something would be more fitting. Keeping the 'Dons' bit of the name is disrespectful. The Dons play in League 1 now.

Well deserved victory.
The difficult bit is now following up an away win with one at home.
Something that we've managed only 3 times in last three seasons.

There must have been a lot of their ST holders who didn't bother yesterday as the home areas looked really sparse.

Great support, but not sure about the Power Out chanting.
Newcastle fans have been singing about their owner for years and he's still there.
Maybe the onset of the first growth of bum fluff for some of ours will lead to a more reasoned approach and a better way of expending all of that energy.

If you look at following ranked in order of shortest distance travelled then we still do quite well as its not a great trip accross country, not like Posh at Donny, and almost double that Wycombe took to Luton for a trip half the distance.

A couple of really good turn outs for Barnsley at Jills and especially for Grimsby at Yeovil both well over 200 mile trips.

 751 Wycombe 36 miles
1463 Southend 40 miles
1086 Bury 56 miles
1258 Swindon 66 miles
1760 Peterborough 88 miles
  534 Notts County 114 miles
  898 Coventry 121 miles
1180 Portsmouth 170 miles
  786 Barnsley 215 miles
1808 Sunderland 252 miles
  550 Grimsby 282 miles

Brilliant turn out by Town for a team seemingly without much hope of making the play offs if many fans are to be believed.

I agree mate, even when we are utterly shit we have a good away following.

My first away game was in 1980 away at Reading in a crowd of 6,600 we had about 2,000 there.

I went to the Bury away game for the last game of the season in 1984 under Beamish, we were playing shit football with no likelihood we would win (we lost 2-1 and had a player sent off) yet that day there was a crowd of 1,214 of which Swindon fans made up about a quarter of that with over 250 there.

We have some amazing fans who deserve much better than they have been served up lately, hopefully that tide is changing under Wellens at last...I hope!

As always here are a few quotes from our opponents from yesyedays forum.

MK fans unhappy with the ref even though he gave them a goal that was blatantly offside, many saying th penalty was way outside of the area...it wasn't.

Some saying Agard was held at every corner, the exact opposite was true with Aneke holding our defenders and kicking them at every opportunity.

Moaning about Vigs winding them up and timewasting, the one makor incident they moan about the ball boy actually threw the ball 20 yards wide of him which the ref missed and yet Vigs was booked, totally wrongly.

They are an irate bunch of moaners :D with only a couple genuinely appreciating that we were much the better side.
Quote
(the ref) He was an utter wankstain
I hope he feels bad about his performance today.

What can you say? league two refs are shockingly shit, this one currently holds the shit stick, how could he miss Agard trying to be undressed by their defenders at every corner?

Their goalkeeper pushed time wasting to the limit throughout the game, and with this going unpunished continued. Given that the ref didn't book him he happily carried on - safe in the knowledge that until he was booked he could do what he wished.
Then the crowd got upset and, not unreasonably, gave the keeper stick - I know I did and so did my neighbours within the FC. Being a bit of a peacock, he reacted, and the Cowshed reacted too - with an intruder making it out of the stand to the edge of the pitch to give him what for.
Had the ref been stronger and booked him early on none of this - perhaps - would have happened. Absolutely the keeper shouldn't have to deal with pitch invaders, but neither he nor the ref can be completely surprised at the reaction their combined behaviour provoked

Yet another load of complete shite

Tisdale is basically league two

Deficient in just about every respect

Outplayed outclassed outfought out of playoffs

I'm not sure what their keeper did after their penalty (probably celebrating to our fans) but it was laughable that some of our fans were so irate. Obviously he was time wasting and we were booing him so he took the chance to wind us up.
It's all just a pantomime

I didn't like the 'calm down you lot' hand signs at all, but in the last analysis isn't that what a keeper will/should do?
It's not as if his manager is gonna give him a bollocking for going to ground/replacing the ball's position etc the whole time is it?
A team needs to win and these days every little helps (not trying to be trite here).
F- 'em they ain't going up either :D

At the moment you have a situation where the Ref wait until 75+ minutes have gone before booking them, by which time the 'keeper knows he isn't going to get a 2nd yellow so carries on regardless. What I will also add is it didn't change that Swindon were worthy winners yesterday.

he(Nicholls) was rooted to the ground and watched a slow motion daisy cutter slip into his net, he was piss poor today

he was rooted to the ground and watched a slow motion daisy cutter slip into his net, he was piss poor today

I know it was horribly slow but it was unsighted. No keeper is going to watch it roll in out of choice.

It was slow because Doughty was composed and knew exactly what he intended to do to beat the keeper, like his penalty
Chuks might do well to take some learnings rather than just fuckin Welly the ball in the general direction of the goal .

A swindon fan said to me on our walk to Fenny station that he thought the 'keeper should have got to their 2nd. I completely disagreed with him because from where I was I thought it had gone in to the top corner at pace, having seen it again today on Ifollow, he was correct.

Harsh to blame him for the first, but the second (although it swerved) should have been saved.
I loved the penalty.

One such thing came to light and made me stop and think yesterday, the comment was, “We are an average team that just got lucky mid-season, and that lucks ran out”. I can’t speak for everyone but that seems not too far from the truth to me

Watching yesterday there were a few things that really struck me, Swindon obviously taking a leaf out of a few other clubs’ books were in our faces all game, they never once in the first half let us play it out from the back, although that did alter in the second half when the game became a bit more stretched. They closed us down so quickly we were not allowed to build any sort of tempo, unlike our players that seemed more than content to let Swindon have as much time as they liked on the ball, and when they got to our area we had nine players in the box and Swindon players roamed around outside unhindered like lions selecting a wildebeest for their supper from the herd. It was truly awful and surely to God Tis and Mel can see this can’t they, to me it looks so screamingly obvious, but no we just carry on heaping pressure on ourselves with no outlet up field because it’s our defensive strategy and we pull everyone back.

the ref, ok he was very poor allowing Aneke and Agard to be pulled about all game and then booking Aneke when he reacted, and yes we had a shout or two for fouls in the box, but that’s not the reason we are sinking like a stone, to apportion any blame in that direction would just be papering over the ever increasing cracks in our game.

I shouldn’t really sign off without congratulating Swindon Town, they did their homework on us and in turn did a job on us and fully deserved to win. They got under our skin and none more so than their keeper, and you cannot blame him for wasting time, the ref should have picked him up much earlier than the 91st minute, and wouldn’t we have done the same if we had been in front and cheered it accordingly.
If they have to rely on Moore to win them promotion then they are really in trouble, I thought he is up there in the worst 3 or 4 keepers I have ever seen in a Swindon shirt....good luck with that!
Quote
Lee Nicholls not as good as some of us thought, or just going through a dodgy spell.......Stuart Moore anyone ?

And finally looks like Vigs made them upset their bottles of milk, well done Vigs!

Quote
Absolutely knob, hope we come up against him again, he'll get plenty!!

He's created bad karma for his next existence.....
Nasty man precious...we hates him forever.

According to some folk on the Facebook page his actions put children at risk, with some vowing never to return as they felt unsafe at the supposed family club.

What exactly did the 'keeper do? Obviously I saw him constantly going to ground to smother the ball, taking his kicks from the opposite side to where the ball went out of play and generally wasting time, but the response by the 14 yr olds at the front of the cowshed gave me a laugh. I thought maybe he had photos of their Mums in compromising positions with a variety of livestock or something.

Shouldn’t have given him the reaction he was looking for. Was clearly enjoying riling up the Cowshed and was doing at excellent job at it.

They are an irate bunch of moaners :D with only a couple genuinely appreciating that we were much the better side.If they have to rely on Moore to win them promotion then they are really in trouble, I thought he is up there in the worst 3 or 4 keepers I have ever seen in a Swindon shirt....good luck with that!
And finally looks like Vigs made them upset their bottles of milk, well done Vigs!

I remember a keeper on an evening game at MK giving us the finger....caused a stir with the stewards. Apologised on twitter or something as I remember.

Frustrated comments...much like ours after a defeat.

disappointingly, they seem reasonably balanced (mostly)

I think Vigs was simply - and quite rightly, in my view - showing his disdain for franchised football clubs in all their forms.  Fair play to him.

The point that the Miltons also seem to be missing is that, in choosing to follow a stolen football club, they forfeited their right to feel aggrieved about anything, ever.  So their concerns are invalid - and can be ignored.

As for MK fans having a moan, you’ve got to remember that they’re still learning about this game. They’ll understand what’s in and out of the box, is and isn’t a shove, etc in a few years. And as for having the right to feel aggrieved, they should count themselves lucky the league doesn’t make them start each game a goal down. Thieves.

The midfield 3 were brillliant on Sat.

Kesh and Woolery are brilliant dribblers but freeze inside the area.

No surprise that 2 of the goals came from outside the area and a pen - if either KA or KW had more finishing ability/predatory instincts and if we committed more players into the box when in some excellent crossing positions, it could have been 4 or 5.

Broadbent looks a very good signing.

Keshis strike was as superb as it was unexpected!

Second half atmosphere superb ; Power out chants when we were dominating in the first half were bizarre.

Time for fans to really get behind Wellens. We will go up next season for sure if he’s here.

Another amusing moment from Saturday was watching our fans mimic the Franchise goal celebrations.  For those who couldn't (or didn't want to) make it, this involves pointing both index fingers upwards and alternately raising each elbow.  This celebration, sadly, is what happens when your football club didn't exist before 2004 and your town's sporting culture is rooted in ice hockey.

I love the way they talk about the rules soccer and how they think that because of Vigs actions the FA should start stopping the clock whent he ball goes out of play to stop any timewasting.

Also the way they try and fathom out some refereeing decisions, but they are new to football and it takes time to take in all those beastly rules.

Interesting stat from twitter.

Swindon Town are the only club in the top 4 divisions of English football to have had 100% of all league goals scored by English players.

Yes I am aware that on a technicality Doughty could be classed as Welsh as even though born in London played for Wales at U21 & U19.

I had a great day, good drive up, a few hours spent at Bletchley Park and a Town victory. Happy Days.

A few points to note :

- I thought it was a solid team performance, however the amount of crosses put in the box required a striker with a decent heading ability - which we didn't have on the pitch.
- I wasn't even sure it was a foul for the pen
- This will be unpopular but I really liked the ground and the set up - for a modern soulless flat pack it was decent. Shame it is wasted on them.
- Despite having the decoding explained to me at BP I still don't understand how what they did was even possible.

Perhaps we could do some suggestions into the new earlier MDF's

Well.... include say a 10 or so mile radius and depending in where you're coming from and how... and also what floats your boat, there's plenty

My last Yeovil trip, incorporated a visit to a local church, which had some interesting stained glass, which is a thing of mine. If similarly minded, you could easily detour to Fairford if coming from the north.

More niche and if in the Town Centre, then the Museum of Computing is open on a Saturday.  More obvious attractions Steam Museum and Old Town Art Gallery and Museum.   The current exhibition in the AG is decent....

Couple of Lowrys... Graham Sutherland Ben Nicholson and some interesting new stuff

Again niche, but some might be tempted by Ian Fleming's grave at Sevenhampton.... if in literary vein, perhaps get a Shelley vibe in Lechlade churchyard..

The wind has swept from the wide atmosphere
Each vapour that obscured the sunset's ray,
And pallid Evening twines its beaming hair
In duskier braids around the languid eyes of Day:
Silence and Twilight, unbeloved of men,
Creep hand in hand from yon obscurest glen.

They breathe their spells towards the departing day,
Encompassing the earth, air, stars, and sea;
Light, sound, and motion, own the potent sway,
Responding to the charm with its own mystery.
The winds are still, or the dry church-tower grass
Knows not their gentle motions as they pass.

Thou too, aerial pile, whose pinnacles
Point from one shrine like pyramids of fire,
Obey'st I in silence their sweet solemn spells,
Clothing in hues of heaven thy dim and distant spire,
Around whose lessening and invisible height
Gather among the stars the clouds of night.

The dead are sleeping in their sepulchres:
And, mouldering as they sleep, a thrilling sound,
Half sense half thought, among the darkness stirs,
Breathed from their wormy beds all living things around,
And, mingling with the still night and mute sky,
Its awful hush is felt inaudibly.

Thus solemnized and softened, death is mild
And terrorless as this serenest night.
Here could I hope, like some enquiring child
Sporting on graves, that death did hide from human sight
Sweet secrets, or beside its breathless sleep
That loveliest dreams perpetual watch did keep.

After Lechlade, Highworth church is interesting, with its Civil War canon ball hole in the wall, and I suppose if coming from the north and being a Civil War type.... Burford church would be a must do.

Sadly the Richard Jefferies Museum at Coate is summer opening only

It's debatable as to whether Priestley discovered Oxygen...... insofar as he sort of did, he was after dephlogistenated air, to back up the phlogisten theory, which was a popular account of things at the time.  Lavoisier named it oxygen.  Priestley was keen on the French and their Revolution, being a radical dissenter, therefore the Tory authorities of the day, encouraged a "church and king mob" to burn down his house in Brum.

He later fled to the US, despite the Whig Shelburne, putting him up at Bowood, which was decent of him.
