Title: Chelt'num Festival
Post by: Chubbs on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, 11:55:23
Anyone having a flutter?

I think, along with a lot of punters, gone with the most popular acca of the day.

13:30 - Getabird
14:10 - Footpad
15:30 - Buveur D'Air
16:10 - Apple's Jade

All to win, 10-er pays just shy of £140

1.30 Summerville Boy e/w
2.10 Footpad
2.50 Shanton Flyer e/w
3.30 Melon e/w
4.10 Jers Girl e/w
4.50 Jury Duty
5.30 Barney Dwan e/w

Can't fail  :D

Must confess only really looked at the Champion Hurdle, managed to get 4-1 on Buveur D'Air months back so fingers crossed, my missus had a conversation with someone on the school run with links to the track and trainer at Cartmel (seriously) who suggested an EW flutter on Charli Parcs at 150-1 so she has a couple of quid EW on that as well!

So if you keep well away from either of them you are probably in with a chance!

Not read any on here yet.

Melon looks a good shout coming up.
Apple's Jade has been in great form too so those should be at least in the frame in their respective races.
Also outside place chance for Charli Parcs in the same race as Apple's I believe.
Make it a 4 fold and add

4.50 Ms Parfois - Bottom of the listing, is a stamina horse not a pacer. Expect her to hold in the middle and chase down the front runners in the final 2/3 furlongs.
&
5.30 Barney Dwan - Outside chance but the chase always brings up a few surprises at 8/1 a great price.

4/4 so far!

Indeed

I'd like to take the credit but I can't.  One of my daughters works with a guy who really puts a lot of effort into his racing.  I went to Southwell & Market Rasen last month and he gave me 2 winners out of 3.

For Cheltenham he produces a brochure with analysis and tips for every race which he gives to colleagues in return for a £5 donation to the riders benevolent fund.  My daughter bought it for me.

Not just the tips but the analysis has been impressive so far.  In the first he explained why he thought the hot favourite was over-rated (he duly came nowhere) and why he just felt that the most fancied British runner would hit the front with 3 to go but tire up the hill and get caught by his selection (which was exactly what happened). In the champion hurdle he said that odds-on Beauvoir would probably win but was over-priced and that Melon might just catch him cold.  He was very nearly right.

Not saying for a moment that he can keep this up but I'm hopeful that I've got a couple more winners over the next 3 days.

Give us a heads up next time. Good luck with Jers Girl. It's Apple's Jade to lose.

Buggar. Ms Parfois for me next. Jury Duty for you? Should be a good battle hopefully. JD is the form horse for this race but MP could be better suited with the soft ground. Both should be placed.

I went e/w for my acca. 2/2 so far. 2 to go. However Jury Duty would be the pick for the next.

Fwiw I fancy De Plotting shed in the last.

Seems a fairly decent shout. Nearly went for it myself but like Pax - Bob Dwan is calling me for some reason. It's the extra soft which has laboured a few of the more good to firm horses but a chase is always there for the taking and this will be no different.

Plenty will plough their cash into Any Second Now especially with 5 generous places up for grabs. An easier money doubler if you've been doing compounded betting an have had a successful day so far. 4/1 so even money would be the pick to secure your funds. My other would be Mister Whitaker who could push the frame. But i'll stick with Brney Dwan.

Title: Re: Chelt'num Festival
Post by: BambooToTheFuture on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, 17:39:51
4/4 on the lat afternoon. All placed with two only beaten by a neck. I'll take that profit into tonights footy.
My tip is Besiktas handicap +1. Bayern are 5-0 up and similarly to the Man Cit v Basel match they won' be fussed about winning. Give Besiktas the benefit of a head start of 1 and you should be quids in. Decent odds for the cheeky win at around 8/1 too.

If we'd shared our tips earlyish and i'd been looking at the form earlier...we may well have covered the lot correctly. Great tips yourself. I wish I'd been bullish to put a £10 single on Mister Whitaker.

Will have chance to take a better look tomorrow so hopefully have a few picks for you!

Looking forward to today's selections Pax  :D

My daughter's tipster colleague does seem knowledgeable but if he could win consistently he would be doing it full time.  Plus I know that he makes his money by betting heavily on a small number of selected races not by trying to go through the entire card at the most heavily scrutinised NH meeting of the year.  He is just doing for his workmates for a bit of fun and to raise some money for charity.  I'm sure you know all this perfectly well, but I don't want to take over from Dr Chang and that Russian idiot as the most despised person on this forum.

He rates all his selections as 0.5 & 1 / 2 / 3  which translates as speculative / fancied / strongly fancied.

1.30 Black Op e/w (or to win without Samcro)   1pt
2.10 Dounikos and Elegant Escape     Both to win 1pt
2.50 Le Breuil   e/w 0.5pt
3.30 Min   win 1pt
4.10 Causes of Causes   win 2pts
4.50 Look My Way   e/w 1pt
5.30 Acey Milan  win 3pts

Bob's Orange seems to know something about horses and has come up with pretty different selections and I'm sure Bambooshoe will do the same.  It's a fucking lottery basically.

But... this guy has only picked three 3 pointers in the whole four days.  Two are odds-on (including Footpad which won yesterday) but Acey Milan is his third strong bet which he got on at 10-1 and is still at 7-1 now.  I note that Bob's O also likes it plus NMH's mate.  I chickened out and did it each way but it's going to be my biggest bet of the week.

The value of tips from complete strangers can go down as well as up.

I have to be honest I don’t know a lot about horses, most of my tips come via reading tipsters who are ten a penny. I follow one for football bets who I have found to be very concistent and he recommended a fellow tipster for horses.

It’s not an exact science unfortunately but I think worth sharing tips (and it’s all play money anyway - please remember to bet responsibly boys and girls)

Pax - thanks for your into on Acey Milan. Could be the bet of the day.

Charlie Austin is big into his horses and also shares his tips on Twitter. He seems to know what he’s doing.

2.10 Black Corton e/w regular winning combo of Jockey and horse. Loves the soft and loves 3miles at Cheltenham. Beat Elegant Escape recently recently too. Should be a good battle between those two. Dounikos should not be dismissed.

2.50 William Henry e/w  Matches well with James Bowen and this horse seems to enjoy the hurdles over chases. One of the top weights. Interesting outsider would be Flemcara (Jamie Carragher relation? :) ) Just can't warm to Le Breuilfor the win as the ground improves to soft. Hope it proves me wrong however with 6 places available should be good value for the e/w

3.30 It's Altiors to Lose but Douvan will challenge.

Good luck guys.

Scrap Douvan going close in the 3.30. Ruby Walsh has broken his leg. All money onto Altior (I know everyone is hyping it up) now and e/w value onto Politologue at 14s. Altior has beaten is before but two extra places up for grabs.

Not a stupid question btw, sometimes it can get withdrawn as the horse may have been set up to ride only with that jockey, so it would become a NR. In big meets though, a lot of vested interest and money put into these horses so usually a rider can replace. It was actually a really good question.

Yep, I was all over Politologue and upto the last fence it could have been Altior, Min or Politilogue. Strong finish from both Min and Altior. You had combi forecast on those two didn't you? Politologue faded after that final jump and finished close fourth to God's Own at 40/1

Yeah I used a free bet on a Min/Altior combi but won’t be a lot back.

Altior’s jumping saved him in that race.

Agreed. Laboured it and a LOT of money was placed on that. With three to go the bookies must've thought they'd won for the day. Fortunately they didn't. Great jumps in the last three fences, kicked on the last beautifully.

My mate had Tiger Roll in that one and I had The Last Samuri, but I've always backed that horse. Was a great finish to that race too.

I have Mitchouka to win in the next and an outside chance for Padleyourowncanoe e/w at 25/1 paying 5 places and that will be 3/4 on my Lucky15 for the day.

Yeah Mitchouka is still eating some grain in a stable somewhere I think. What happened to Act of Valour as that was up there into the final three sticks? Yes happy with that as just got best odds applied so instead of 6.5/1 got 8.25/1 which bumped the Lucky 15. 3/4 in that all e/w but in profit so happy with that. As I said, going to chuck all the profit on Besiktas +1 for tonight. Call me mad but there is some method there  :pint:

You are right, Act of Valeur suddenly was running into treacle there!

Put a bit of my profit on a Acey Milan in the last.

Also put a quid on Besiktas at 17/2. Currently 1-0 down unfortunately. However you would have thought the Turks at home would fight for pride. Looks like Bayern have put a strong side out sadly.

Acey Milan could save the day?

Bloody Italians!  Never able to quicken when it mattered.  I had e/w so that has pulled back some of my losses.  Down on day but up on festival.

Apologies to anyone listening to my garbage advice today.

BO - did you get the placepot?

Nah last 2 races screwed it. Never mind! Tomorrow is another day huh?

Haha, likewise. I had 3 out of 4 in a Lucky 15 but all places. Just one winner and i'd be well up. Still just above for the day and festival.

Although I wouldn't follow my tips...

My efforts for today.

1:30 terrefort
2:10 sort it out e/w
2:50 un de sceaux
3:30 Yarnworth
4:10 Tully East e/w
4:50 Cap Soleil e/w
5:30 Mall Dini - hoping this is better than Acey Milan!!

Put Terrefort, Un de Sceaux, Yarnworth and Laurina in a Lucky 15 and the first 6 in a placepot.

Not massively confident about today so small stakes.

Good luck all!

My daughter's tipster has gone for:
1.30  Terrefort  win
2.10  Protek Des Flos e/w
2.50  Un de Seaux  win
3.30  Donna's Diamond  e/w
4.10  Last Goodbye e/w
4.50  Laurina win
5.30  Sugar Baron e/w

Couple of overlaps with you (BO), three if you count Laurina in your yankee.

Laurina is the one he really fancies (with the same confidence as Acey Milan presumably)  :-[

Key for me today is getting a place on couple of the big outsiders.

Tully East is a non runner and so I have gone for kings socks e/w in the 4:10.

Does anyone know what happens with my placepot as clearly a nr has no chance of top 3!!

I have backed Laurina as a single today as well. I should have put 2 horses in my list in the 4:50.

Let’s hope our tipsters have better luck today!

All the best to everyone that has a punt today.

I see good old Penhill is running in the main race today.

Memories of last year when I inadvertently put £100 on him, wriggled out of it and put on my intended £10 and the fucker won at 16/1.

Got to do him again!

May put a little on Penhill on the back of Audrey’s luck last year!

Excellent, well done!

Very similar experience to me except for the bit about the 5/1 and 12/1 winners.

Just arrived home pissed and chastened.  Unbelievably Laurina has single-handedly kept me just above even for the festival to-date.

And tomorrow is going to be the day of my dreams.

Well sorry you lot, I didn't post any tips and then missed the first race as was doing something called work supposedly. However, had a fairly good day when I got round to it.
The below screenshot was my suggestions to a mate for a L15 and a 4fold (both e/w). I put small stakes on as like Pax I was not feeling confident. Think my mate was slightly more confident and did £1 e/w on the L15.  ;)

On top of this "result" I also told him to back;

2.50
Balko Des Flos
&
Un De Sceaux
Combination Forecast: Won

3.30 I offered;
Penhill
Supasundee
&
Sam Spinner
Trifecta: Lost by one; 1st, 2nd, 5th

4.10 said;
The Storyteller
King's Socks
&
Guitar Pete
Trifecta: Lost; 1st, 5th, 6th

4.50 told him;
Cap Soleil
Laurina
&
Countister
Trifecta: Lost; 1st, 2nd, 5th

5.30 offered;
Squouateur
Missed Approach
&
Final Nudge
Trifecta: Lost; 1st, 3rd & 9th

All of these were done pretty much on the fly/ad hoc. He seems to think I pick a few out so was offering me 15% of any potential winnings. So a fairly good day for myself and obviously him.

Quite, you can take the ones above with a pinch of salt (it's quite feasible that I've made this shit up), which is fine. I guess it'd be pretty pointless though if I did tbh. However the screenshot was 1 winner and 3 places.

My total tips equalled selecting;

6 Winners
5 Places
3 Near misses
&
1 No hope

Considering this was meant to be a quiet day, it was pretty successful. Some good overlaps from Pax, BO & AB. Nice one lads. Personally my form has improved each day at Cheltenham this year. Have I hit the limit today? Or is there more in the tank? Mulling over the selections tonight as got an easy day tomorrow so plenty of chances to throw all the profits away tomorrow!

Was pretty much Elliott's and Russell's day today. Will it be Henderson's day tomorrow? We'll soon find out I guess.

Good luck fellas.

Yes indeed, well done Mr Shoe.  Put my miserable selections to shame.

Unbelievably my daughter has just thought to mention to me this morning that her Bristol-based tipster colleague is actually a Swindon fan.  You'd have thought he'd have come up with Penhill yesterday on that basis.

Still a huge £4.13 up overall to my surprise.  I'm keeping the faith for day 4 but publishing on here simply to give anyone who is interested a list of donkeys to avoid.

1.30 Apples Shakira  win
2.10 A Hare Breath  e/w
2.50 Chef Des Obeaux win   &  Callett Mad e/w
3.30 Road to Respect e/w
4.10 Wonderful Charm e/w
4.50 Diese Des Bieffes e/w
5.30 Vaniteux e/w

Good luck to all.

Title: Re: Chelt'num Festival

Suppose I better post my ramblings on todays. Already had Farclas in the First, along with Apple's Shakira (those pips don't lie...) and Mr.Adjudicator was mentioned too. I'll post my researched nonsense. Three sets to bet on. One a combined set of Omens and contenders. Another my picks for the day and a set of outsiders to condider for single betting. Here goes;

The Omen Set
============
1.30 (3 Places)
Farclas 6/1
Form: 44122
Info: Done the distance in last two races so should have the stamina. Tough race but has a chance in this. Was a length behind Mr Adjudicator. If you can get 4places this is guaranteed. 3rd place is asking some but he'll go close. Great price.
Predict: 3rd/4th

2.10 (6 SIX Places)
Chesterfield 14/1
Form: 10041
Info: Form tells a misleading story at first look and many may dismiss but Jockey Samson has ridden this twice before...and won! Rides well in the soft ground. This could just be his day! At 6 places this has to make the frame.
Predict: 2nd

2.50 (4 Places)
Chris's Dream 6/1 (for your bro)
Form: 06211
Info: Ascending form looks like it has a great chance. Won it's last in decent company by....64lengths (200m). Prefers heavier but it could go very well.
Predict: 4th

3.30 (4 Places)The Gold Cup
Total Recall 14/1
Form: 05111
Info: This horse even as an omen tip, looks the business. Stepped up to 3miles and has won all 3 (Oct, Dec, Feb). This is the big one and it will need to run the race of it's life. No probs with stamina and should stake a place.
Predict: 4th

4.10 (4 Places)
Barel Of Laughs 22/1
Form: 31121
Info: Enjoys soft ground but prefers it a bit more soft to good going. Came 3rd in this last year at 100/1. If it stays dry he could contend.
Predict: 4th

4.50 (5 Places)
Tommy Rapper 20/1
Form: -72111
Info: Don't be too fooled by the form!  Two of them were minor class although the most recent was Class 2. A decent horse but seems to like the going heavier. No problem with distance but will do better if lingering around 3rd/4th. It may suit if the rain comes and may snatch a place anyway.
Predict: 5th

5.30 (5 Places)
North Hill Harvey 8/1
Form: 01123
Info: Form suggests a place should be on but it seems to prefer the slightly shorter distance of 1m 7f, however the two wins were at Cheltenham on Soft to Good ground. Seems a perfect combination if it can race well and go full stretch for an extra furlong then he should contend the top two. Great price for a 2ndFav.
Predict:2nd/3rd

That concludes "The Omen Set". "Pembrino's Pick" coming up shortly!

==========

Pembrino's Pick
============
1.30 (3 Places)
Apple's Shakira 2/1
Form: 1111
Info: This fillies hips really do not lie! Incredible hurdler, loves the soft, loves Cheltenham winning here 3 times in a row at the same distance(Nov, Dec, Jan), and trained by the very best who has won this final day opener 6, yes six times. This is your banker's friend and the bookies bully. How'd you like those Apple's?!
Predict: 1st

2.10 (6 SIX Places)
Whiskey Sour 14/1
Form: 11114
Info: With six places up for grabs, if this doesn't place, let alone contend, I'll down six Whiskey Sours! Runs great on the soft, so less of the moist stuff and we could all be on a round of sours. Cracking price too.
Predict: 3rd

2.50 (4 Places)
Dortmund Park 12/1
Form: -16114
Info: Form could suggest he's not quite up to it but the combination of Jockey, Davy Russell and Trainer Gordon Elliott can never be dismissed. Should get a place, battle with Mr Whipped and push the leaders.
Predict: 3rd

3.30 (4 Places)The Gold Cup
Might Bite 4/1
Form: 111-11
Info: A real Tiger of horse (whatever that means) it just wins and wins and wins. Strangely though doesn't enjoy being in front alone and prefers to pounce in the final three. Like a tiger, I guess. Will go close with Native River but it should be his to lose! Beautiful jumper.
Predict: 1st/2nd

4.10 (4 Places)
Foxrock 8/1
Form: 111P-2
Info: As the name suggests, solid horse and can outwit contenders. Should love the distance and contends towards final 3 fences. Great chance to upset the favourite.
Predict: 2nd

4.50 (5 Places)
Flawless Escape 7/1
Form: 2-1213
Info: Look at that alternating form! This horse clearly loves a place and seems to win every other race. Raced a higher challenge last time and was behind Total Recall. That was a 3m though so he should be best value for this shorter trip. Could be one for a CF. All in son. All in.
Predict: 1st/2nd

5.30 (5 Places)
Dolos 16/1
Form: -20132
Info: Was 2nd to Gino's Trail (who also races in this), last time out and jumped really well. Apparently had more in the tank so maybe was being saved for this trip. 5 places available and loves the soft. Solid place claim here.
Predict: 2nd/3rd

That concludes "Pembrino's Pick". "Arbiter's Outsider's" coming up shortly!

===============

Just a bit of fun now and to take all the seriousness out of it. The following selections are just for that outside chance so singles are advised for these.

Arbiter's Outsider's
============
1.30 (3 Places)
Gumball 50/1
&
Sussex Ranger 20/1 (chance of 3rd)

2.10 (6 SIX Places)
Ivanovich Gorbatov 12/1 (won't lie; liked the name)
&
Remiluc 50/1

2.50 (4 Places)
Mr Whipped 25/1     (genuine place claim)
&
Beyond The Law 40/1 (could shock a few)

3.30 (4 Places)The Gold Cup
Shantou Flyer 150/1 (You just can't not dream of it getting placed)
&
Tea For Two 66/1 (Don't like tea! Get out!)

4.10 (4 Places)
Young Hurricane 33/1 (outside chance)
&
Vincitore 200/1          (trained & ridden by same jockette Miss Ripon. Worth a shot at that price!)

4.50 (5 Places)
No Hassle Hoff 40/1      (Just have to have a flutter on this)

Arthington 50/1 (Stunning form, could grab a place)

5.30 (5 Places)
Born Survivor 25/1            (No reason, nice silks though)
&
Gino Trail 25/1 (Unbelievable price with that form. Won't win but 5 places so fill your boots Gino!)
======================
That concludes "Arbiter's Outsider's" and all of my selections for the Gold Cup Special. Study these selections wisely and combine the ones you think could come home. Good Luck!

Obviously dismiss the first race now but I started writing tips a few years ago after my mate convinced me to. I'm yet to blog but he says ai should blog on betfair. Lets see gow these do.

Last minute shove of £1.50 each way on Kilbricken Storm

Edit: wow that was good/lucky

I've also staked a small amount each way on Total Recall in the GC. Aside from what I've already put on, that's it for today.

Cracker, you get 40s on it or SP. Great call.

Well I, well and truly cocked up the last. Was a strange race though as the pace leader was several lengths ahead all the way. Knew it would squeeze in the last two but I don't think it was a strategy some of the better horses had called for. Strong run from Kilbrecken Storm though and great result for the yard. Plenty to play for still!

Put a random 50p on Pascha de polder at 25/1. Means I’ve broken even this week.

Well thank fuck it’s nearly over, worst Cheltenham I’ve ever had.
Un De Sceaux letting me down for £200 yesterday, Might Bite for the same again today. Couldn’t get close this week.

Poor day for me regarding winners. Just the one. But yesterday was great and the day before was just below yesterday. However, I always bet and tip e/w. There's so much value and when you get 6 places or even 5 some horses you know can't (most the time) miss the frame. Gino Trail was my outsider in the final race today and finish 2nd at 24/1. It had form and done well here plus loved the soft. You can't turn down that price. Similar scenario with Remiluc at 50/1 in the 2nd race of the day, also 2nd. In L15/L31 betting finding those e/w shots can add masses to your card just those two in a L15 @ £1e/w (so £30 Total Stake) would have gave you £7 & £13.50 for the place part singles plus place stake back. Then you'd have the double place part of that too at £20.50 so already you'd have been at £41 or £11 up. With two selections to come.

Like a fair few others I had another dreadful day.  Finally went into the red for the festival overall.

Well done to those who bucked the trend.
