Title: Kit choices
Post by: hobodan on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, 17:38:36
If you’re not aware of our kit history, you can see in the link provided. Personally I would like us to change our kit, the current kit is probably the most common use of colour in the football league; a change back to the original pattern would certainly make us unique.

By 1883, I assume you mean 1894-1898 ? The one that looks like a jockey kit.

Leave it is my vote.

I would hope a modern take on the original kits, I’m not advocating long sleeves and shorts made of thick cotton etc.....

I wonder why there was such a change to the green early on.

The green didn't last long as the dyes were unreliable, they ran in the rain,

There's an explanation here:

As Reg says, it was all about the dye.  I expect he remembers it well.  :)

they ran in the rain,
The exact opposite of most of last seasons side.

I like it the was it is; Red shirts, don't particularly mind if the shorts and socks are white or red.

That said, I do like that red and black stripey number too.

Is it me or last season did we change to all red towards the end?

I don't much like red shorts, too McMahon scouse, for my taste.  The 70's campaign against black shorts proved successful.

We've never really had much of a problem with black shirts... Ironside's efforts at recruitment falling on stony ground.

I thought of Dave Bamber, he always looked particularly hangdog when the mullet got a soaking.

There were elements of wet poodle about him when it did rain!

I would like a return to the 1983-84 shirt and sponsor just because it would mightily piss off the Daily Mail!

Not a fan of the red shorts an its always nice to see a bit of green trim in there somewhere.

In terms of away shirts the black ones are always nice, but for me you cannot beat the black and blue vertical stripe (ala Inter) ones we have had!

Didn't we switch to red shorts for a while because the players complained that the white ones became see through when it rained?

Presumably the material is a bit better these days.

I like the option 3. So Red and Black quarters but with Red or White shorts and Red socks. Then some white piping/trim.

Does anyone know where I can pick up the current stfc shorts as club shop don't have many kids sizes and wanted to get them for the kids, I've looked on Genesis and cant seem to find them on there.

Genesis are the only authorised UK Puma teamwear distributor so if they don't have it you're most likely out of luck - my youngest plays for two sides that use Puma teamwear for training kits so I've been there and (usually not) got the t-shirt, as it were. I've had some joy in the past ordering from German kit suppliers or even using amazon.de (the German amazon site). Obviously though either way you'll still need to get Town badges added if you want them

The Danes have come up with another classy one, unlike the Nigerian monstrosity.

Peru and Germany kits for me out of those, I love a sash on a shirt and the German one is just smart.

Nigeria looks like a cartoon representation of a knackered TV.

most of them are safe, classic shirts. not nothing wrong with that

Peru or Japan are the only remotely interesting ones....

A very dull world cup shirt wise.

Colombia and Germany for me.
Far too many boring Puma kits in there.

If we’re talking about our kit choices for next season then Serbia for home and Peru & Australia as our away choices.

No piss-stainy away kit for me, thanks.

Argentina or Uruguay.

I really like the Nigeria GK Jersey. It's a deep blue and a lot less 'eagle feathers'.

Quite like that Uruguay shirt. Simple but smart.

Agree that there are a lot of 'safe' choices, and the ones that have tried to be a bit more creative have failed quite badly.
