Title: Super Bowl
Post by: Not that Nice If I'm Honest on Friday, February 2, 2018, 23:38:33
I will be supporting the team my brother played for - the greatest team in NFL history.

And all the haters can say what they want - but they known the facts can't be disputed

Can't get enthused by either team in the Superbowl this year.

Well I'm intrigued by this even if no one else is.

Is your brother:
a) Randy Moss
b) Tedy Bruschi
c) John Smith
or none of the above?  :sherlock:

Generally speaking people are either Patriots fans or they hate them. I'm relatively unusual in that I'm not a fan as such but actually quite like them and most certainly admire them.

The last two Patriots SB victories against Seattle and Atlanta were absolute classics, both of which could have gone the other way and I think (hope) this one could be the same. Don't mind who wins but I suppose you have to say it would be good for the NFL if it went the Eagles way on this occasion. Looking forward to it though (and Justin Timberlake of course ::))

FWIW, there are loads of sports I don't like but I would never describe them as shit just because I personally don't get them.

Not really.  Just someone who dismisses things on the grounds that if you don't like or understand them then they must be worthless.

OST - C. He told a good story about it all on here.

Kind of lost interest in US football  these days, but enjoy it those that watch

c)
Turned down a contract with STFC for one with the Pats - (which was something like 20x the amount, so you can't blame him)

Having followed the Eagles since secondary school, I've been waiting 13 years for this.

Eagles fan for 4 years. Patriots will score c.20 points, and it depends what nick foles turns up.

Put money on the Pats to win the Superbowl straight after the final last year so from a financial point of view I’d be happy with a Pats win.

Although an Eagles win would be good for the sport. The first season I started watching the NFL Eagles and the Jags were two of the worst teams. 4/5 years later both are in the conference championships games which just empathises the point that teams can go bottom to top (and the reverse) ** in a relatively short space of time - something seriously lacking in say football in the top divisions.

** apart from the Browns and the Pats

I will be joining 90% of the USA population and support the Eagles for the day.   I know the link is tenuous, but it helps that I can play on the whole Tea Party thing and being English as well, bloody Bostonian's, always the same, cheating, whether it's not paying their taxes or deflating balls :-)

Will pop to a local sports bar for a good afternoon session - imagine the locals will be very anti-Patriots after the Falcons bottled it last year.

Going to come down to whether the Eagles can get to Brady I think, their defence has been pretty strong.

Placed a bet on the Eagles out of pure devilment. They'll prob lose! All good fun being a neutral though. Actually like the Patriots but I won't be losing sleep on the result.  :pint:

Always thought it strange that people would read a thread on a sport they don’t like and then feel the urge to tell everybody they dislike said sport

You find it odd that on a forum someone starts a discussion and people reply with their own opinions?

Completely agree.  Spot on.

Contributions are one thing but it's the people who let you know that they have nothing to say who really make the difference.

I'm always on the lookout for forums on topics where I'm completely apathetic (ballet, pot-holing and darts are particular favourites) so I can inform everyone on there that I have absolutely no interest in the subject.  I'm constantly disappointed by the lack of gratitude I get in return.

A classic example is yesterday's Lincoln match thread.  It was clearly quite a game and Peter Venkman & others taking the trouble to post updates and insights during the game for the benefit of those unable to attend is just about alright, I suppose, if you like that sort of thing.

But imagine if a complete stranger had made the effort to point out that they hate football, don't support Lincoln or Swindon, hadn't a clue what the score was and couldn't give a toss?  That would really have brought the thread to life.

It wouldn’t be a Super Bowl thread without the ‘it’s shit’ posts.

I actually am quite intrigued by American Football, the tactical plays etc, but I just can’t watch a whole game, it’s too stop start and too many breaks.

I have started to watch the highlights and I think it’s a good sport. The breaks and razzmatazz is symptomatic of yank sports and it’s not really anything I can embrace personally.

That said, the New England Patriots coach seems to be a bit of a legend.

No doubt about it. The best way to watch it is to record the game and watch it back without knowing the score so you can fast forward the never ending breaks. Can be infuriating when you are watching live though. I think you actually have to train yourself how to watch games and get yourself accustomed to it.

They seem to be the Millwall of the NFL.

And to those people who think American sport is a 'Happy Clappy' day out for the whole family with oversized foam hands and abseiling mascots - it's not always...

I feel dirty, but I'm an Eagle for the night. Cheatriots don't deserve another ring, they should be fired into the fucking sun. Too many dodgy decisions around Deflatriots games, Jags should've been in this game.

The ridiculous thing about the games where the Patriots 'cheated' is that they would have won them any way. If ever a team didn't need to cheat, it's the Patriots.

Nicknames such as ‘Cheatriots’ and ‘Deflatriots’ make me want the Patriots to win again.

GO PATS!

 ;)

Also, I’ve been to Foxboro and while there a nice family run grocery store let me use their phone so I could call for a taxi.

Don’t really mind the Patriots, admire their incredible achievements of the past 15 years. Best QB and head coach in history of the game.

In saying that i definitely want Eagles to win after what happened to my Falcons last year, still not over it.

If the good Foles turns up then they have a decent chance, if bad Foles turns up it will be predicatably comfortable for the Patriots dynasty

That was brilliant.

All my dads side of the family are from Philly so got into NFL from visiting and they would take me to games.

NFL can be boring and dragged out but this game was great. Pats started slow but i dont think they expected such a strong offensive game from the Eagles.
2nd half the Pats picked up the game and it really looked like they would do what they have done so many times this season and mount a 2nd half come back.

That missed chance at a TD at the start of the 4th looks like it was all about to fall apart for the eagles but then that sack on Brady was a joy to watch.

Not usually a fan of high scoring no defence games, prefer a low scoring hard hitting slugfest. However that was great given the end result.

Nick Foles has just earned himself a starting job somewhere in the NFL next season

The Cards have no contracted QB for the next season.
I also saw that Alex Smith and Kirk Cousins were traded, which seems odd from the Chiefs

Neither have the Broncos (I don't count Siemian, Lynch nor Osweiler as at least 2 will go). But they may have Cousins soon.

Back on track....Annoyed that BBC News had the result all over the main news page this morning. Stayed away from Sports pages and FB at 6am as I was recording highlights at 8am. Looked at news pages and there was a picture of the winning QB holding the trophy! Not happy!!!

Could only catch the first half last night but was really impressed with the Eagles. Foles was composed throughout in a game where it would have been so easy to crumble. Thoroughly expecting a Pats win but very happy to be wrong.

Pure jealousy, really. Same reason a lot of people disliked United, Ferguson, Beckham et al during the 90's.

He's probably the best QB of all time, I just didn't want him to win again.

Hate the Eagles with a passion, but that call on 4th & goal with the pass to Foles was pure guts & they deserved to win  :suicide:

They always say that Defence wins championships, well not in this game because there wasn't any.
