sounds dodgy, but in what way who knows.

If this statement had been released tomorrow I would have had it down 110% as a diversionary tactic from our impending failure in the January transfer market.

Yes. Let's make up hypothetical situations just for the sake of having something negative to say.

Jeremy Newton has been with us 10 years and is fairly well respected for the job he has done in football circles.

Of late there has been a lot of people in his position at clubs being sacked for verbal and physical abuse and bullying of footballers (not in the Barry bennell kind of way), almost like there has been a crack down on it, I hope its nothing too bad but then I guess it has to be to actually be relieved of his position.

McDonald, Culverhouse, Beardsley, Rix and  Gwyn Williams spring to mind recently.

it does say the investigation was into the academy, not Newton. and no mention of it being a police matter.

As you highlighted, it's a sensitive area right now.

It's not any of our business, but they could have made it less ambiguous if its a performance/difference of opinion sort of thing. Wouldn't be surprised, Brady was brought in above him and Peacs alongside him recently.

Hmmm, they say no news is good news but in this case, if it was trivial then there would be a tad more information (even along the usual line of "JN had been at SN1 for around a decade and we wish him well for the future...". Let's see when more detail arises. Doesn't seem great in the current climate though.

There's always legal shit with these things. So I'm guessing those who, for some reason, are demanding answers will either have to wait or rely on the rumour mill.

I'll start...

Newton was responsible for subbing Woolery on Saturday.

Surprised he lasted as long as he has to be honest. At times that academy is poisonous behind the scenes.
Loads of backstabbing and jobs for the boys culture there.

Title: Re: Jeremy newton
Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, 13:58:36
I don't think any fan of any club has the right to "demand answers" to anything going on at any club.

Shit happens, lets just hope its not shit that reflects badly on the club in the end.

Lots of rumours going around about this but if we never find out I won't be too worried as it means that we don't have the clubs name dragged through the dirt again and its all been dealt with.

I can't comment on the internal actions of which I have no knowledge, further more if its a police matter its best we all keep away from posting on this matter. One thing I can tell you all is that I know of a young local defender (who's bloody good) who approached the club and was promply rejected. He's gone on to play in Europe and has broken into the English leagues. There are a number of Championship and a few Prem clubs watching him evey game. What bothered me was that we've been wiithout a commanding defender since Flint left and the club was offer one on a plate. We don't seen to bring in and bring local talent, when other clubs like Reading are all over our patch for youth development.

You can tell that tale about any Academy, anywhere. Reading released Charlie Austin, Arsenal released Harry Kane but kept the "highly rated next Ashley Cole" (BOO), Southampton (IIRC) released Ben Gladwin because he was too small(!) and Tyrone Mings.

As far as we're aware and due the details of the Club Statement, it is not a police matter.

I know who the player is....it's one of those lads who didn't make the cut in the Samsung Win a Pro Contract thingymajigs...isn't it??  :soapy tit wank:

So IDRC :) Point still stands, these were just a couple of random examples of players who've been released by an Academy that went on to have decent careers in football. Happens all the time, it's not an exact science, as Batch says so much of the decision making is down to subjective opinion and in some cases personal bias.

Absolutely, every club has one or 2 "that got away" Jamie Vardy at Sheff Weds, Ian Wright at Southend, Platini at Metz, Ruud Gullit at Ipswich, Eric Cantona at Sheff Weds the list is endless.

Add Theo Walcott to our list as well as a few others, you can go on and on with near misses.

Some people even think Branco was a good defender ;)

Thing is what are they supposed to say, say nothing everyone claims a cover up, say something trite and everyone claims they have something to hide, say its all great and anyone involved will accuse the club of a white wash.

Sadly anything these days gets tied up in the public's desperate need to a) find something salacious and dodgy in everything, b) find someone to blame and c) witter on about it on social media (which I know I am doing myself).

Ultimately if its just a matter between the club and the guy no more should be said, if it goes beyond that no doubt we will find out in due course?

Just say he's left. No need to mention an internal investigation - how many people actually knew who Jeremy Newton was before this or would have given a monkeys that he'd left without that hint of scandal being dangled? Not saying it's deliberately been done to smear him, it may just be cackhandedness, but it certainly isn't going to help the bloke finding another job is it?

And as per my earlier post if you have a personal involvement on the other side (for instance if your kid has made an accusation) you then interpret this as the club just washing their hands to avoid a scandal...

I see that yesterday Crystal Palace had a problem with their youth coach Gary Issett suspending him, there is so much clamping down at that level going on at the moment.

And no I am not suggesting Newton did anything similar to this.

Although reading the report this could be pretty serious.
