Title: STFC bad boys XI
Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, January 4, 2018, 17:52:01
If it's 'one in, one out' and we're to offload our 'bad apple Vigs, I notice a certain Nile Ranger has had his Southend contract terminated....

I feel an STFC "bad boys" XI coming on.

Nile's a shoo in, but Vigs has a lot to do to get the keeping slot.

Dean Hooper, I'm sure he did something bad. Why else would I remember him.

I don't remember anything bad but I do remember him being the fastest player I had ever seen (at the time) without the ball but useless when he had it!

Impersonating a footballer, I think.

As for Bad Boys, they didn't come any worse than Darren Bullock.

Rhys Evans, Jamie Vincent, Lloyd Jones, Rohan Ince, Adi Williams, Andy Nicholas, Chris Zebrowski (only youth level) all arrested for assault.

Wasn't David Geddis arrested for something too? and Frankie Macavennie.

I seem to remember him getting sent off at the CG.... that's not bad enough though. Prison preferred, or if not at least a proper court appearance with conviction.

I guess Kammy gets in, but reluctantly for me.

I seem to remember one of the reasons we got Bullock was that he had some sort of restraining order, and Swindon was far enough away.

I'm not entirely sure CZ, ever got as far as youth level.... definitely a bad boy mind.  Oggie Hunt, was a bit naughty, as was Edwin Murray.   Aside from  Chris Ogden who got a drink drive conviction I'm struggling for a keeper.  Oh. Rhys Evans, domestic violence wasn't it?  Lot of that about with these footballers.

Reg, you are going senile, he listed a keeper!  The KFC protesting Evans, who ended up getting a McDonald's instead.

Zebrowski was a youth player for us between 2003-04 for us as a 17/18 year old.

Zebrowski was a youth player for us between 2003-04 for us as a 17/18 year old.

I have my doubts as I came across him playing for Down Ampney, in the Ciren League, aged about 16, he scored a shed load and got sent off, think we won 7-6  :)

Even back then if you were Town academy you couldn't play for any local youth sides...

Thats better, a thread of its own.

Zebrowski was definately at Swindon as a schoolboy up until 2004, but you could be right about not being officially a youth teamer.

Got to have a strong spine of Jimmy Gauld, Jack Fountain and Bronco Layne, all whom did time at HMP, in the 60's match fixing scandal.

 Graham French.. could mentor Nile.

Tony Finnigan springs to mind, and Adie Williams.

Yeah Tony Finnigan I forgot him, I mentioned Adi in my above post.

The Bronco thing I was not around for but saw a reconstruction of it on BBC4 a while back, they didn't mention Swindon though all Sheff Weds I think in the dramatisation.

I am sure this has embellished in my memory, but I have visions of his introduction being a sprint away from the left back, in front of the new stand, before the ball ran out of play and he fell over.

The only bit that I think is embellished is that I don't think he actually fell over but he did often just fall over, otherwise spot on :D

Honest Bri, would be the only one who got stir in situ at STFC. Erstwhile TEFer Steve Murrall, could be found a role, when he gets out  :)

Plenty of ex-Directors of course.

Vince Farrar, who was Honest Bri's accountant at STFC, got a 6 month suspended sentence.  The fact he had no accountancy qualifications probably an advantage at the job interview.

Not sure if anybody remembers this but Bullock was sent off about 15 mins into his Bury debut after joining them from us. Our stadium announcer at the time announced it during the h/t interval & was met with a massive cheer  :D

Served time on remand but got acquitted. I remember him admitting to the cocaine use but can't remember if that was just before or after he was with us. Article just says 1994.

Moses Ashikodi was in trouble before and after his spell here, although I don't remember him doing much wrong while he was here (although a vague memory of him getting booked without touching the ball once)

For the pre-match young ones, can we have the Rockin' Robin incarnation that two foot tackled Father Christmas, followed by an apology in the program the next game and a "they are friends really, he's fine" statement

Oh and for other entertainment -  end of season half time, I remember an opera singer who sounded like he briefly joined in with the "Rix is a pedophile" chant when he was singing the um...oh what's it called...the one we sing Paolo Di Canio to...that song....

Not that naughty but who was the striker you had a few years ago (5?) who used to play for Exeter before you? He could be class on the pitch, was given a standing ovation at our ground when playing for Exeter once, but it turned out had been boozing for years which somewhat explained his inconsistency.

Christian Roberts was one of my favourite players. Saw him a few times for Bristol City and always thought he'd be a player I'd love to see us sign. There was a period of time where the club used to do updates over text and I remember walking home from some school event at around 8 in the evening when I got a text saying we'd signed Roberts for 50k. Amazing moment.

He was electric at times. Helped overturn a 0-2 defecit against Sheffield Wednesday into a 3-2 win and then was awesome in a 4-2 win against Hull City.

Unfortunately he always had his alcohol problems and admitted playing intoxicated on a number of occasions. Added to that numerous injuries and we never saw the best of him for any length of time. I often wonder how good he could have been had he not had his demons and playdough hamstrings.

Does no-one remember Mike O'Hara? He was an 18 year old goalkeeper, one of Bert's Babes in the early 1960's who played several games for the first team. He was suddenly and inexplicably transferred to Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic (none of this AFC Bournemouth tripe then). Several weeks later he was up before the beak in Swindon charged with burglary. He surely deserves consideration for the goalies spot.

Did he wear a stripy goalkeepers jumper?
