Title: Official Yeovil Match Day Thread
Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, November 18, 2017, 08:55:57
I think the last one of these I started was Carlisle on opening day so I have a 100% record so far this season.

Yeovil is probably best known for being the local club of infamous TEF poster Pete JJ Venkman.

Today I will go for...

2-0 to us. Anderson, Woolery

Flitters reckons these are the biggest most direct side in Div 4, given they've a good home record, and 3 players suspended for violent conduct, it's obvious we can expect a battle. Important that our lot rise above the intimidation.

Pre match Kappa jackets and fake gold jewellery in The William Dampier.

Still trying to work out how Cureton managed to miss THAT open goal.

Doesn't seem that long ago when Yeovil were in the Championship and their chairman was forgetting club roots.

Maybe another spell in non league will allow them to reconnect with what they really are.

Took the train today, in the hope that the day out might be more enjoyable than it normally is here.
Haven't decided on how best to get to and from the ground yet.
Walk probably.

To borrow a TEF username, Swindon please win.

I got sound back but no video. Opened a chat and they suggested clearing all cookies from my cache, closing the browser and starting again. Sod that in the middle of the game. This is why I cherrypick games rather than buying a season pass. Doesn't get any better year after year, does it?

It worked ok for me. Scrappy game, Woolery certainly offers pace and control up front. Apart from their goal Yeovil were poor I thought. We deserved the win, seven away wins quite remarkable.

Two points off automatic promotion.  Come the end of the season, we may well look back on these two late points (and the one late point grabbed at the death last week at the County Ground) as pivotal.

Good times.  Hope everyone lucky enough to be there had a blast.

Great result.

Can't be bothered to check but surely we must have more away wins than anyone lese in the league (or equal with  Man City?).  That has to be a first for Swindon as late as Nov 18th.  Even in the record-breaker under Macari  it was Dec/Jan before we really started kicking on with the away wins.

That changes the whole dynamic though doesn't it Paul? People are pinning their hopes on you....that's pressure - I don't know if I can live with that  ;)

Luton score 7... again.
I hate the phrase 'in the modern game' but...in 'the modern game', how many times can a team have scored 8,7 and 7 in one season? As Ardiles said, it does put our result there in perspective.

I've said it before (and not just when we win) we are a top 3 side.

Fully deserved win. Could have been by more. Yeovil were not great, but that was down to our effort more than their inability. It was always on my the cards that we would persevere, and great that we did. Writing was on the wall when Woolery came on for Norris. Town fans were in great voice and the winner was celebrated accordingly. Another happy awayday. Hats off to Preston, Goddard, Anderson and Woolery !!

Haven't read back yet.

Went today,  the first away in a while.

As a match it was poor.

Gave Yeovil a really soft goal, shouldn't of been allowed to get a shot away but I thought the keeper should of been better....near post..
Gave Yeovil hope and they shut us down superbly and didn't allow us to play at all. Hit us on the break and all good for them.
How the fuck their keeper saved that header and how the shot that hit the defender and over didn't go in....amazing. In at the end of the first frustrated that we were a goal down and Elsnik off.

A pressing game is difficult to keep up for 90 plus and so it panned out as after the restart our improved tempo caused problems but I thought it might be one of those days.

Relief at our equaliser...again, to me it went through the keeper and Woolery provided a great assist for a wonderful winner.

I cannot believe this away form...fantastic.

Great away experience in the beer tent with a pasty and a pint at £4:95....but the crowd!? WTF? Just over 3000 with 1200 odd Swindon.....the worst crowd I have seen of my numerous visits, even the Sky game had more. Missed out on a planned pint with JJ.....Get Well Soon my old mate!

Yeovil are shite, and it really was there for the taking last 20.

Thought RCC should have done a lot better for the goal, and Taylor too probably because he got roasted down the left. We grew into it and were much better 2nd half, Gordon looked great when he came on and Woolery caused problems. That's what 7 in 9 away? Fantastic record, good fight from the team and it looks like a team that's capable of promotion, as long as we start winning more often at home!

Thought we dominated that - any other result would have been a travesty.

I thought we played really well - still no nonsense at the back, but more passing in midfield and upfront. More I see of a Woolery the more I’m impressed. Shame about a Elsnik but we’ve got a helluva squad for this league. Getting dubious regarding RCC - hope Vigs bench appearance is a harbinger of him starting again soon.

Lively in The Arrow beforehand and a great turn out from a Town fans.

Good day out, enhanced by our late winner netting me £450 on a 4 team accy!

At various times in the past, we've had to listen to commentators claiming that Bristol City vs Yeovil was the 'massive' West Country Derby, implying that we were now in the rear view mirror.  And that clubs liken Rushden & Diamonds were the future.  All temporary.  Clubs like Yeovil & Cheltenham rise up through the ranks, and then fade away just as quickly.  At our lowest ebb, we still pull in 5,000 every week.  We need to remember that.  Do ourselves down sometimes.

'Citeh'...have 6 away wins...we have 7 (that's SEVEN Pep - count them and weep)

Plus we've now won 5 straight away games in all comps, for the third time in our history (1927/8 and 1986 were the others).

Win on Tuesday and it'll be the first time we've ever managed 6 in a row in all comps.

We were definitely worth the win today and regularly looked like scoring after a poor opening 20. Norris was the weakest link and we finally turned the screw after he was replaced with a bit of pace and energy.

Another step forward.

I prefer to just look at league games... in 85/86 we won 6 in a row which was literally 6 in a row as we had no home games, due to the straw on the pitch... but there was a defeat at Rovers in the then equivalent of the Boycott Trophy. To get anything at Grimsby on Tuesday is going to be difficult, just the sort of horrible obstacle that needs to be overcome. I can't even remember the last time we went to Blundell Park

I prefer not to distinguish between competitive games of football . Granted, we ought to win at Dartford, but a defeat there could have derailed the season. And the win was so convincing that it warrants a place on the list.

As you've justifiably tended to point out in advance, most away games (including today's) are going to represent a challenge. That's the case for most teams in most divisions.

Having said that, we do keep winning them on merit. And there's no reason why we shouldn't do so again on Tuesday versus a lower mid table team in mediocre form.

It's the logistics as much as anything... day off tomorrow, do we travel on Monday  :hmmm:  or more likely early Tuesday. Players have a few knocks etc makes it more difficult, I'd say a clear week and travel Friday to play Saturday gives you more of a chance.

We've struggled a bit home or away with midweek fixtures so far

I enjoyed that today. Aways good when you win with a deserved late winner, even better when you've stuck a few quid on us to win at half time.

Not a great first half, soft goal - Taylor got beat too easily and the keeper got beat at the near post.

Better second half and deserved to win. Yeovil wasted lots of time which came back to hurt them and quite rightly so.

Being critical I think we look solid at the back and but need to improve going forward IMO. I know we play it down the channels but I'd like to see Norris and Smith more prevalent in the box. On quite a few occasions the the ball was played in and there was no one there. The younger guys - Anderson, Woolery and Gordon need to make better decisions when on the ball, Anderson in particular runs into dead ends when a simple ball would've sufficed.

I think the team is crying out for playmaker and I'd like that to be Goddard but he needs to improve.

Overall another win and a fun day out with the boy

Anderson needs to do a couple of step overs and shot or pass....he does ten and then gives the ball away. How many times did he run into high tower today??

Sure, just like the other 71 FL teams we have 2 games in quick succession and need to swiftly refocus.

But we are playing a team which has scored 1 goal in its last 6 games (which came vs Sunderland U21s in front of 250 fans), hasn't won at home since 16 September, and has failed to score in any of its last 4 home league games. We are in good form and are pinging in goals from all angles.

We have cover in every position if required. As the recent games have shown, such cover is more than adequate.

I fancy us for a win anyway. Do you reckon we'll lose?

Sure, just like the other 71 FL teams we have 2 games in quick succession and need to swiftly refocus.

But we are playing a team which has scored 1 goal in its last 6 games (which came vs Sunderland U21s in front of 250 fans), hasn't won at home since 16 September, and has failed to score in any of its last 4 home league games. We are in good form and are pinging in goals from all angles.

We have cover in every position if required. As the recent games have shown, such cover is more than adequate.

I fancy us for a win anyway. Do you reckon we'll lose?

I'll be happy with a point... remember winning there in 4-3 in 67, then nothing to the Mooney season, when we won 2-1 midweek, which convinced me Kingy's side might be on to something.. Make no mistake it's a difficult place to take anything back other than the boxes of kippers left outside the dressing rooms for the players  ps I don't think they do that any more.

It's been said countless times before but can't be said often enough - that's an awesome website.

Not a bad day out in the end. Sampled some decent ciders.

Didn't particularly enjoy the game, but the win is the main thing.

Poor goal conceded.
Impressed with Gordon when he came on. Woolery is improving with every game.
Goddard played very well and good to see him competing in the head tennis duels in midfield, hopefully he can start chipping in with a few goals.

Taylor is our principle hoofer in open play.
Norris was a bit off the pace, probably guilty at the direct hit on someone during the "finishing" drills.
Yes, it hurt.

And note to self. Do not ever leave a game early again.

I have left games early several times over the years but we've never been less the 3 down when I've done it.

On another note, I've spotted that we are at home to Luton and Notts County between Christmas and New Year. That will sort the men from the boys  :hmmm:

I'm going to make an effort this year and attend a game, probably over the Christmas period.

My last home game was against Yeovil a few years back and we lost one nil, it was a pub crawl with the Flash and Victor Mildew, with a lift back to Calne from Jutty. More beer, a wobble home and a thick head all Sunday. Great day out  :)

Yeovil were awful, with that standard of football it is no wonder their attendances are shocking. Once we stopped looking long and played it more on the floor we tore them to pieces. A deserved 3 points.
